I'm so glad I visited PLEX for the first time earlier this week. I stopped in for a personal training session (very reasonably priced IMO) and was very pleased. I have been lifting weights for close to two years now, but have struggled mentally with adding weight to my leg days because of a previous ankle injury. While the injury is completely healed and I've been thru PT, I find myself constantly worrying about my form and aggravating the injury by adding weight. After speaking to my nutritionist about my apprehension, she suggested going to PLEX to have them set me straight and provide me with guidance. I was easily able to schedule over the phone for a Tuesday morning session. The trainer I worked with was very knowledgeable and welcoming. He gave me a quick tour of the facility and explained that all kinds of people work out at the gym. When I walked into the actual gym, my first thought was that I never in a million years would have stepped foot into this type of place a couple years ago...but I quickly reminded myself how crazy I was to think this - because everyone was so nice and warm. For the next hour, my trainer led me thru a whole circuit of light weights, bands, sprints, ropes, abs, etc. and while I was breathing heavier, had an elevated heart rate and dripping with sweat - I was loving every minute of it! He had me complete a lot of challenging agility drills and that really pushed my limits with my ankle, but it was a lot of fun. While this gym is a little out of the way than my usual place, I can definitely see myself making visits part of my routine to change things up and continue to strengthen my ankle. I'm really interested in trying a class sometime soon. I definitely recommend PLEX, regardless of your fitness level or knowledge. read more

My first workout at PLEX was AMAZING!! I LOVE this place. Yes, I got to have the unique opportunity to work out alongside professional athletes. No, I am not a professional athlete or an ultra affluent executive. I'm a regular health enthusiast looking for the best training around, using up to date evidence based medicine. I was totally blown away by the caliber of instruction, unique experience, and VALUE you get by working out here. Danny shattered all of my incorrect perceived notions around training at an elite level, and the actual cost is way less than what I originally thought. This is a prime example of how I got in my own way. How often do we come up with excuses as to why something might not work, only to find out later the only problems were those created in our own heads? I just assumed it would be too expensive, or that I wasn't in good enough shape to make it through. Candidly, I was nervous about coming in for our first session, as I wasn't sure I would be able to hack it. My fears were settled once I was asked about what I do to work out currently, and more importantly why. Personally, I just want to get in good physical shape. I have no need to wear a shirt that says "I bench 225." Turns out, the trainers were the ones giving me pause when I looked light headed. They went above and beyond to make sure I didn't get injured. Yes the workout was difficult, but I made it! My best interests were put first, plenty of time was spent stretching, and the entire focus is around explosive growth and dynamic exercises. They currently have a group class option that's less than the cost of a carmel macchiato a day. Ditch the drink, it's less than you think. This place is a gem in Houston, and I recommend working out with them just once to see the difference. Ask about the pricing. You will be hooked. I was. I Absolutely LOVE working out at PLEX. It doesn't matter if you are a 5 Star athlete or a regular guy like myself who desires to get back in shape, PLEX makes you feel welcome and really pushes you past your comfort zone and into physical and mental shape you never thought you could achieve. I've been going to plex for about 8 months now and would never go anywhere else after working with Danny. I have worked with my fair share of strength/agility/conditioning coaches but Plex is by far the best. Great workout today with the man himself - Danny Arnold. Without a doubt, Danny is the best in the business. As a former college athlete, I appreciate the variety and intensity he brings to his workouts. As a physician and surgeon, I also appreciate his attention to proper technique and his adaptability to working around injuries. Every exercise has a modification for any type of injury. I've been training at plex for the better part of 3 months in preparation for the Houston decathalon. Some of the events are brand new to me and others are familiar from my college days. Danny Arnold knows what he's talking about with form, technique and conditioning. I've gone to a few other places to train and don't get the same level of instruction that I get at Plex. Even if you aren't training for any event in particular, workouts at plex are a great way to mix up your usual boring cardio & lifting sessions at your own gym.
