The other half is the true salvage business and it is impressively robust. The folks at the front were friendly and the wood stove was very welcome on this warm day. It's a great place to take out of town guests. Fun to find items you didn't know you needed but can't leave without. And maybe a spare window frame or old bar top as well.

We love…read morethe industrial feel of most salvage items and have a desire to preserve the past and honor the history and stories of these items. We planned to arrive early on Sunday afternoon after confirming their hours. The parking lot was large enough to accommodate the number of visitors and we found a spot and began walking around the exterior to check things out. There was a food truck in parking lot which we did not check out because we just had breakfast at Scratch Biscuit Company up the road. They also have a small amphitheater out side where it appears they do events. The entry to the amphitheater has some of their salvage from the Capital Center in Landover, MD. Michael, one of the employees saw us walking toward the back yard and we began to chat. He was friendly and accommodating and told us a few things about some ironwork recently salvaged from the Piedmont Triad which is our home. He also gave us a few tips on navigating the interior. We made our way inside and were blown away by the sheer number of items. The store appears to be very well organized and arranged with designated areas for items such as doors, windows , plumbing, electrical and hardware. Mixed amongst each space are salvaged items from all over the world. We thought the majority of the prices were reasonable considering the amount of time, effort, and money that is required to secure the items. We also learned that a good portion of the building is designated for various people to setup consignment spaces showcasing their treasures for sale. We once again ran into Michael and he asked us if we had a few minutes. We were happy to tag along side him while he pointed out some very cool hand carved pieces from India and Egypt. We really enjoyed our conversation and appreciated Michael's love and enthusiasm for vintage pieces. It was fun to talk with someone who appreciates the craftsmanship and history of pieces. Black Dog also features a good amount of swag items which will be fun to look back and remember our time in Roanoke. Awesome experience!

Their style blends the past and present and is inspired by the rustic yet elegant villas of the French countryside and the clean and down-to-earth feel of the American farmhouse style. By its beautiful showroom you would think it's prices are very expensive, but they are not. They are reasonable and comparable to Pier 1. They carry high quality, beautiful, and very unique items, like vases, watering cans, and framed prints. Many items that would make wonderful gifts. Their products are hand-selected and blend the past and present. The French Farmhouse also sells unique products, including handmade items by small business makers and European antiques. A visit to this elegant store, which opened in 2021 and is locally owned by Ashly Lawson, a Franklin County native, is a very enjoying experience. When I visited the store last week I was greeted by a very friendly elegant lady, who was very cordial and answered all my questions about the store and its products and unique gifts. I highly recommend that whenever you're in Downtown, Roanoke, you go visit the store. You will enjoy the visit, and maybe discover one of those home decoration items of your dreams.

Sooooooo cute!…read more I've been following this shop on Instagram for a while but haven't been able to come inside just yet bc they were closed during my last time in town. I love the location - right beside the newly opened and renovated Firehouse 1 building. These two cute spaces compliment each other well and with the beautiful hand-made TXTUR store next door - you can really get some beautiful decor and home goods between the two. This shop is small - but packed with beautiful items that fit the name - French shabby chic farmhouse. I saw a ton of things I'd love to buy. Candles, dinnerware, candlesticks, salt and pepper shakers and wells, t-shirts, a little jewelry, pillows, seasonal decor, etc. The gal behind the counter was very friendly and they have a website and sell gift cards. I found some CUTE fall pumpkin and halloween items to die for inside as well as a honey well and a cute small stoneware jewelry dish. Highly, highly recommend you stop in if you at all love French shabby chic! (Note - the space upstairs is also an event venue)

Even though our mattress was comfortable, we noticed that we could no longer sleep in it and thought we were imagining things. And I was convinced my metabolism was changing! The Manager was knowledgeable and kind enough to let me know that the memory foam mattress they sold, was specifically designed to cool people down another 8 degrees lower than if they were sleeping on a normal bed. Not wanting to give up the sleep benefits of memory foam, but needing a cooler mattress, Virginia Furniture Market Mattress Store was the only store where I could find a high enough quality mattress to meet my needs, with a Store Manager that could help.

Locally owned since 1995, their Flagship Showroom covers 10,000 square feet of the highest quality American-made and some fine-quality import furniture, mattresses, and accessories. I happened to discover their store one evening after coming back from watching a movie at the Historic Grandin Theatre, walking down the sidewalk of Grandin Road. The store was closed at that time but I remember looking inside their store windows and seeing some of the nicest, fine craftsmanship and beautifully designed furniture that I had ever since in a while. And I know a little about genuine luxury furniture. During the time I went to college in Boston and Cambridge, I took some elective courses in the History of Art and the History of Furniture. Then after years passed, when faced with furnishing my reasantly purchased five bedroom house, I researched and studied the highest quality brands and had my living room sofa custom made at Century Furniture. Soon afterwards, the night that I was exposed to this furniture store, I had an opportunity of visiting the store in person and meeting with the extremely nice owners who personally hand-select the high-quality American-made fine furniture and accessories. I also had an opportunity of meeting and talking to some of their knowledgeable sales staff and interior designers, who were also very friendly and kind. I invite all those reading this review to look at my photographs accompanying this review and see for yourselves the beautiful future they have on display. And then go give them a visit. From all that I have seen and experienced, I highly recommend this furniture store for all those looking for high quality, genuine wood furniture, with fine craftsmanship, and beautiful design. On top of this you get experienced interior designers who can help you select the appropriate items to create a beautiful and comfortable space in which to enjoy quality time with your family and close friends. And to top it off you get outstanding customer service.
