Five starts again for the beautiful Rachel at Plum Fancy Hair Studio!! After getting my hair colored and trimmed last time (and hoping that would bring the life back to my hair) I realized that my hair was begging for a larger reboot. The ends were dry and super thirsty. I had been growing my hair out for a while and when you're growing out old hair color this can happen no matter how well you take care of your hair. No matter what product I used my ends were just so unhappy. I saw a post on IG that Rachel had an opening the next day (follow them on IG! It's the best way to see last minute openings!!) so I messaged and grabbed a spot. PURE PANIC SET IN YALL!! Lol. I had been growing my hair out for so long and now I was thinking of cutting off a good amount. It was like watching a scary movie where you're not sure you want to keep sitting there but at the same time you're super excited to be sitting there. Lol. I went through hours of the "should I cancel?" fear. After telling myself over and over it was a good thing I went for my appointment. Once again Rachel's smiling face (it was behind a mask but with some people you can just see the smile radiating) greeted me. I told her my plan and showed her a photo. She was instantly excited and said my idea was going to be gorgeous so I felt so confident pushing forward. After she was done there was so much dead hair on the floor I questioned whether or not it needed a eulogy before being swept away. I looked in the mirror and felt beautiful and so positive about what we just did and part of that was because Rachel was really excited about how it turned out. Ladies (and gentlemen) if you can find a stylist who makes you feel absolutely beautiful even when you aren't too sure about yourself....THAT is an amazing stylist. Rachel's positivity for life in general is infectious and her confidence in doing her job well is stellar. I've also sent my husband to see her after he had a not so great first haircut experience here. His hair turned out amazing as well and he was so happy with the result. Rachel is just an overall good egg so if you are looking for a new stylist or just want to support a local newbie then she is your girl! Thanks again Rachel for making me feel like I can take on the world even if it is with a little less hair! Lol. read more

Terrible communication. They said they didn't have time for me today after I clearly stated what I needed and had an appointment. They wasted my time, PTO, and money (paid for 4hrs of parking) just to turn around and leave. This issue falls on the booking coordinator to properly understand and clarify a customer's needs before scheduling an appointment. During the booking process, I clearly stated that I wanted color services to help blend and conceal my gray hair, along with highlights and lowlights. I also explained that I had reference photos because I wasn't certain of the correct terminology. Having grown up around the salon industry, I understand that it is the booking coordinator's responsibility to ask clarifying questions rather than make assumptions about the services being requested. Instead of taking accountability for the miscommunication, the response I received was dismissive and unprofessional. The lack of customer service, accountability, and willingness to acknowledge the mistake has left me with little confidence in this business. As a result, I will not be returning or recommending this salon. read more

As someone who is not very good at hair-related things, I was so amazed at how easy Jordan was to talk to. Not only did she somehow figure out exactly what I wanted, but she did an amazing job executing it. The salon itself has such a great vibe and it's in a very cool spot on the southside. Starting with the service the owner, Jordan, actually disregarded what I asked for, I brought photos and wanted a bit of a shag haircut, which she tried to talk me out of and then just cut a layered lob. She didn't show me the back, or style it, just blow dried and promptly removed the cape to go check me out. I actually wanted to ask for more length off but I wasn't even asked if I was satisfied. That's ultimately why I'm choosing to leave this review. However, I also was very appalled by how openly the owner Jordan spoke of her hatred for the homeless community and proudly totes her gun- I'm all about having your own beliefs and rights but as a business owner I was shocked at how she managed to not read the room whatsoever. Not only was she not ashamed to complain about the houseless/transient community, and brag about her gun use, but she decided to heavily empathize with massive corporations like Nike and Whole Foods because they had to close some locations in California due to looting? (Not sure if this is even true I have not fact checked) this made no sense to me. Jordan also talked and spewed these cold views the entire appointment incessantly I could barely get a word in. She talked over and interrupted me multiple times. That's okay I guess because in hindsight it's not my job to educate Jordan, I just needed a haircut. If you want a salon that reeks of privilege, lacks critical thinking and professional service, and shares their small-minded simple views of an incredibly complicated world- go to Plum Fancy and make sure you ask for Jordan. I would love to continue using this saloon because I had a great appointment the first time I went but, when I got a new stylist I now will not be returning. My new stylist, Lizette, took my appointment because my old stylist left. I asked for a chocolate brown color to cover the blonde seeping through. I left the saloon with jet-black hair. It has been over a week since that appointment and it hasn't faded. When I tried to get a refund she was extremely petty and cowardly. This is no way to treat a customer whose hair just got ruined. I asked if there was a different stylist available to fix my hair and she would rather just give me a refund. She was too lazy to fix what she ruined. read more

FYI - I have short hair with base coat, high and low lights. I was moving from SC to Chattanooga in early December. I needed an appointment before Christmas. While still in SC, I read MANY reviews oo. YELP. I decided on Plum Fancy. I was booked with Jordan, the owner, for Dec 19. I immediately liked her. She is warm and welcoming and she understood that I was "nervous." After an initial consultation, Jordan read the color formula of my previous hair stylist and began. We just did base as I had everything done 3 weeks earlier. As she worked, she asked me about my hair, color, how I styled it, etc. It was a great experience and I booked another appointment. Rachel, my stylist, would have me going back just for her talent and skill alone, but on top of it she's one of the nicest most down to earth people I've ever met, period. I came here after my stylist of 2 years moved to Nashville and I was super specific with what I wanted, including having my own tried and true toner formula. Rachel was accommodating to that, and everything else I requested. She does a PHENOMENAL balayage + money pieces, and I know she cares about the health/integrity of my hair. As for the salon itself, it is so so cute and in such a convenient location. Another stylist who's always there whenever I have an appointment, Sarah, is SO freaking sweet. She always recognizes me and will ask how I've been, how my roommate is, etc. Everyone here is so genuine and you can tell. PS Rachel can also wax brows so you can get two birds with one stone here!! I came on a Saturday a few hours before a wedding asking them pricing on getting my hair washed and dried. They gave me prices and I told them I would be back. I showed up an hour and a half before they closed, they were ALREADY GONE! This is unacceptable and unprofessional. Even if you don't have formal appointments, you stay until the time it says. I made two appointments at this studio for a wedding weekend and was disappointed both times. The owner was super responsive when I wanted to make an appointment and both the times I requested were available. I showed up for my appointment on Friday a few minutes early and they were able to wash and curl my hair immediately. After leaving for lunch, my hair looked as if nothing had been done, so I came back and they re-curled which didn't stick as well. I had already made an appointment to get my hair done on Saturday and showed up a few minutes early, once again, but this time had to wait 35 minutes past my appointment time which almost caused me to be late for the wedding. I mentioned the curls didn't stick and the stylist didn't do anything differently. Again, nothing lasted. All the stylists are super friendly and I really wanted to love this place. For styling hair, maybe not the place to go. I observed some of the other clients hair cuts and it looked very nice. read more
