This place has the great combination of a convenience store mixed with the cozy comfort food of a mom and pop restaurant. My grandmother used to make shepherd's pie that was my favorite treat, and when I ate their shepherd's pie I swear I had flashbacks to her kitchen. It's one of the best treats for a great price, and a must have for any shepherd's pie lovers! The staff are incredibly friendly, and when I asked if they could prepare more Shepherd's pie I was happy to find they cooked up a new batch and I ordered all of them. Their whoopie pies are also a great treat for anyone with a sweet tooth. I must have eaten at least a dozen in the month or so I've been here on Plum island. All I can say is that Plum Island Provisions has been the absolute highlight of my trip, and I would recommend them for all manner of delicious treats! read more

We are new to area and we grabbed lunch at PIP. The lady was super nice! The store was very clean! The onion rings were thin and crispy deliciousness! French fries were also thin and very good. I really liked the steak and cheese, but they either forgot or did not hear me say cheese because there was none, lol, still very good sub. Went in to grab breakfast sandwiches this morning. Got a sausage egg and cheese and 2 bacon egg and cheese one gluten free. One of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had in a long time. Wanted to love this place, but just couldn't. Ordered chowder to go & it took 20 minutes. They forgot about my order twice. The lady at the counter gets 5 stars bc she was very nice, but the crappy chowder ( a pasty, chunky mess with zero flavor) really sucked. I took one bite and threw it out. I almost wanted to take it to the chef and have him taste it or possibly show him how to make clam chowder. Given the location, if this place stepped up its game they would make a killing.. There is a time and place for fancy pizza, however, when you're hanging in your Plum Island beach shack you want a pie that's greasy, has a delicious thick crust, and bubbling cheese. horrible establishment. i ordered a pizza, onioon rings and mozzarella sticks. it took 3 hours. the only plausible excuse is that they were growing my brocccoli for my chicken broccoli ziti as i waited. this was ridiculous. one time this was my favorite place on beach but now i will not be attending again. and on top of it the food didnt even taste fresh. the broccoli was not organic and had a genetically modified falvor. the mozzarellas were crips yet stringy. and to think that there was hair in my pizza is truly despicable. i urge you not to go here when you are visiting. read more

Though I'm sure Dick's is named after someone, the name definitely gives you a good idea of the service you receive at this convenience store as well. While it looks like a good ol' country store where you could meander in and be greeted warmly, most times the cashiers seem like its an inconvenience to have you there. And forget ever trying to order anything off the menu at the deli, they'll NEVER have what you want. Every time I've headed here with a lunch order from the construction crew, I always have to ask everyone what their 3rd and 4th choice would be. But as pretty much the only choice for somewhere to run in and get "a quick lunch" without having to drive off island, it does its job. The snack/soda selection is pretty good and every so often you're treated to a taste of some of the older local islanders. And as one of few girls out on the island during the day over the winter with oh about 30 construction crews, the wait at the deli isn't always *all* bad. read more

The bread was fresh, the turkey was good, the request for "a little bit" of mayo was fully respected which is always appreciated! This place is perfectly fine for a convenience store. If you're looking for a restaurant style service with a huge deli and five-star food, don't go to a little convenience store on the corner of the beach. They sell small things and have a little deli, but usually only one person is working it. I've gotten breakfast from there almost every day for the past few months and it's always good. As for the employees there, most of them are friendly and will give me free dog treats, just because they know I own a dog. There are a few people who look like they do not want to be there at all, but that's their personal problem and they never take it out on customers. Even at their worst service, I've gotten rung up fast, exact change, received my product, and left without getting a warm friendly smile. I think I'll live. Bottom line, it's a good convenience store, nothing special and nothing wrong with it. read more

Forget Mad Martha's, get the super beef with everything from PIP. The thing was the size of my face. Prices are good for a beach joint. Take out only. Credit with $5 purchase, (so basically any purchase because what costs less than $5 at the beach?). They also sell booze in single, sixes, and twelves. Don't forget your solo cups or you're looking at a cool $100 fine for boozing on the beach! ;) read more

They don't post prices on many items, like their fountain drinks so you don't know you're going to get charged $2.50 for a small 10 ounce soda until you go to check out and already been baited. I had a pretty good early morning experience there including a friendly exchange with the female storekeeper, who I rather doubt was named "Dick". There was an odd assorted 'variety' of packaged food & beer & wine & ice & sundries & hardware & some very good freshly baked "muffin tops" for $1. II didn't try the deli. We live nearby, on island, and over the past six months have ordered food regularly from Plum Island Provisions. Since PI Provisions is new, we wanted to support a local neighborhood business. We had liked the idea of a neighborhood eatery and looked forward to having a good regular take out experience long term. During the summer and bi-monthly since they opened, we ordered Pizza regularly and it was always good. Recently we ordered Buffalo wings with our pizza and the Buffalo wings came in a container filled with over 1/4 inch of grease. We were disgusted with how the food was presented and after a discussion with my family whom decided not to eat the wings, I agreed to call the business and let them know we were disappointed. I intended to return the wings which frankly no one should have to do. It didn't need to be a big deal and we never predicted the reaction we would get would be so poor. Prior to writing, and initially I had no intention of doing so, I contacted Plum Island Provisions directly and asked to speak to the manager whom identified himself as Marcel. Marcel was condescending and rude. I had called in hopes of giving him an opportunity to correct our issue with the inedible food we purchased. Bottom line: I was gracious enough to bring it to their attention prior to writing this and to give them an opportunity to address it, because their market here is small. Constructive criticism is a good thing if you want to stay in business and my call should have been appreciated and welcomed. After our telephone call, Plum Island Provisions market is smaller. We will never order food there again and I can no longer recommend Plum Island Provisions when there are so many, many better places to purchase food in the area. read more
