I can't believe how many people complain about the Russian men playing chess! Isn't it great? I mean, it gives this park character and better yet - as a women I feel safe. The park/jungle gym itself is impeccably cleaned and maintained. I actually work out here at 6am in the morning and see the maintenance team being very thorough in their cleaning every single day. There are a thousand tennis courts. I don't play tennis but I think I should take it up. There are community centers and basketball courts - if you're a community person you will find something at the park to do! Also on Monday mornings there is a farmers market. That's really my only complaint that it's on Mondays and not the weekend. People! Stop complaining about this park. It's great for everyone! read more

This event happens every Monday from 10am-3pm in the back parking lot of Plummer Park on Fountain Ave. between Vista St. and Martel Ave. They have an intimate selection of fruits and veggies, some local ethnic food stands (mediterranean, korean, mexican) , a gourmet cheese purveyor, a fresh fish market stand, a fresh bread guy, and an exotic mushroom seller. I always go every Monday rain or shine. There is one stand I like to buy from that sells predominantly Asian vegetables such as bok choi, yu choi, daikon, jerusalem artichokes, and herbs. Another stand I love sells fresh off the vine tomatoes and delicious baby zucchini squash with the precious yellow flowers still budding out. The rosemary bread is really good there. You can also buy farm fresh local organic eggs. The cheese dude is a little pricey but has some unique selections worth paying the extra dollar for. Basil and artichokes are in season at the moment along with fresh arugula, frisee, and spinach. These make salads really exciting. The ambience is lively and there is always at least one musician you can rock out to while you enjoy your plein air shopping experience. Its just some good clean fun that makes you wonder why supermarkets exist in the first place. Support your local farms, eat healthy, and shop with good conscience. read more

I would not advise going to this park for tennis courts cause to many times reservations have been double booked and it just ends up being a big waste of time and gas. Administration here is not organized ! Save yourself the anger and disappointment and book at other courts with competent administration. read more

I did a craft show here a couple times... it's the weirdest park ever and much larger than it looks from Santa Monica Blvd. There are some buildings in the middle... and the restrooms are so clean! A rarity for a park... but something a girl can appreciate. ... and then in the back there are a whole bunch of old Russian men playing chess and cursing at each other in Russian. This Sunday, when there wasn't an available tennis court at the Beverly Hills Center on La Cienega, we came here. We had a court for 1.5 hours no sweat, cheaper than BH. Apparently on the weekend, you need a court reservation, but on the weekdays, it's first come first serve. An interesting mix of people visit this park, from elderly folk playing tennis, to buff guys doing outdoor workouts, to scantily clad transgendered person (I hope that's the politically correct way to say it, PS. all good in my book). I'll definitely give this park a shot again next time I want to play some tennis! read more

Plumber parks a fun place to go there are lots of things to do there if you could play tennis watch the Russians play cards basketball ride the swings or let your kids ride the swings you can walk your dog there as long as it's on a leash and make sure you clean up after he has pooped. There's always somewhere to park your car. The bathrooms are usually open, but you must have patience, sometimes there's a maniac in there doing God knows what it's probably better if you don't know. Its a beautiful park located in the Heart of West Hollywood. I think every Russian Cab driver plays cards in the park here. They have effigy mounds that resemble the famous Russian dolls "Matryoshkas". It's pretty cool. They have a Russian library. They also have a handful of Russian World War 2 memorials, which the Polish arent to happy about what I understand. My Russian friends tell me that Gays are pretty much still hated in Russia. Which I find interesting. This park is somewhat segregated, a gay section and a Russian section, now everyone can get along. read more

Ruskies reunite at Plummer Park. I've been coming to Plummer for a couple years now. I found this park because it had a really clean outdoor basketball court. Plummer probably has the best outdoor court in all of Los Angeles, and I'm just speaking about the court and hoops themselves, not the players. There's not much to know about Plummer. There's a ton of Russian people, an abundance of parking, and you can get Astro's after a nice hearty workout. Just don't use the bathrooms unless you are really desperate. Super clean park. Lots of tennis courts, a few basketball courts and senior citizens galore. On a sunny day it's a great place to lay out and work on your tan and read a book. I love this park. Great tennis courts. It gets a little crowded in the summer time, but if you go early you'll have no problem getting on. They also have reasonable rates for racket restringing. Everyone is really friendly and often times you can go there and meet new hitting partners. I believe you have to reserve the courts during the day and on weekends, but I don't quite remember. This is a great little mommy park. It's filled mostly with Moms and Nannies who seem to know each other, with kids playing on the playgrounds. The playground is nice and they have a separate area for smaller kids which always good. There were also some guys playing basketball and some old Russian guys playing chess at the only 2 completely shaded tables in the park. Hey, they're old, let them have it. I went to sketch and it was very pleasant sitting at the table with my drawing pad. Parking is easy. If you have kids under 10 it's a great place to go. Not bad for anyone else either. read more

I had time to kill in the area while my car was being fixed. I googled where there was a nice park i could just sit & people watch or read. this was the first one that came up. I walked about a half mile to get to it- so that was awesome. Its clean. relatively quiet, with people playing catch, playing cards and chess etc. When the young school kids got out it was still quiet, even as they played on the playground. This is a decent place to play basketball. It has decent court with nice nets. The competition varies a lot. There are public restrooms and the court is lit until 10 PM. Tonight a crackhead woman asked me if she could shoot my basketball. Parking can get crowded sometimes but I've never had a problem finding a spot. A neighborhood gem that's well maintained and offers something for everyone. The tennis courts are great and easy to book. The grounds are very well maintained - great going city guys. The security staff are present and have moved unwelcome people along. The kids area is always hopping with screaming little buggers. And the Russian guys and their chess. Jeesh. Cons: There are quite a few crazies that frequent this park. You'll see them chatting it up with, well, themselves. Also, there are those who seem to really enjoy leaving their trash behind. It's usually in the area of the picnic tables in the north east corner near a half basketball court. Decks of playing cards strewn about. Empty cig packages, empty cups, food containers. There are freaking garbage cans every ten feet, clean up your damn mess. Idiots. read more

One of the nicest parks in West Hollywood in a very urban areas of the city. If you have kids that just like running around and playing with the play structures then this is the park for you. It's very close to the Hollywood strip and could be an option for someone to kill time. read more

It's a nice park with a basketball court and a few tennis courts. They also have a recreational center and classes for dancing and other activities. You may see a few homeless people in the area as there are lots of them in the city of West Hollywood. Night time there are lots of groups of older Russian men just walking around, talking playing cards, etc. And people who frequent this park refuse to clean after themselves. Often you'll paper cups and trash left all over the benches and grass area. read more

Conveniently located WeHo park featuring some nice tennis courts. The courts are free on a first come / first serve basis during the week, and about $7 per hour weekends. It's hard to get a court if you go solo during the week (I like to practice serves alone)--a twosome can boot you off according to park rules. The courts can get busy during evenings and weekends. This is a great park. All sort of people, different backgrounds, ethnicity's and genders, etc.. Good vibe and didn't see a single hint of weirdness or shady attitudes. Solid location for families to visit. Only knock would be to the concrete on the playground. My son had a great time playing around until he fell on the concrete around the playscape. AND before you say anything, almost 100% of all park playgrounds have some sort of hard rubber around the playscapes, not concrete... so if they would replace it would be a perfect park.. otherwise, just gotta watch the little guy carefully while he runs around, more so than usual. i didn't have a favourite park before, but i do now, lol! :) i went here today finally after wanting to check it out, and i spent like 3 hours there...i struck up a conversation with a little old Russian lady who was super nice, and we just talked about Russia and the Soviet Union and men, and how americans are lazy asses, lol! after chatting, i walked right over to astro burger, grabbed a delicious gyron to bring back to the park and eat and enjoy. I really love how close-knit the Russian community is there...it felt like everybody knew everybody.... :) i really wish i knew how to play chess and dominoes or poker so i can partake in some playing and smoking and perhaps gambling (if thats what theyre doing, lol) when i have kids one day, this is where i wanna bring em :) read more

Oh west hollywood. You've got a cute little community center here, basketball courts, tennis courts, a fairly big field and plenty of tables. There's a large population of older Russian men that hang out here and gossip,play chess or whatever. They're fun to say hi to. It's a dog friendly park, but remember to keep your dog on leash and clean up after him/her. read more

FREE tennis courts that are well-kept and not too difficult to snag on even the weekends. I'm a fan. Plus parking is not an issue and the people are friendly - my only complaint would be that it's pretty chatty and sometimes helicopters do low fly-bys for some reason AND there aren't any trees lining the courts so if you play when it's hot ... I am a fan of Plummer Park as a nice playground for my 3 year old daughter. My biggest beef with the park is that I wish they would install a roof for the playground area. This is LA and it can get pretty hot in the summer months, and those slides can get super hot! You're better off waiting until the later afternoon hours when the sun isn't hitting the playground. Other than that, I like the large grassy areas, convenient parking lot, and the hilarious Russian guys playing dominoes. read more

Plummer Park has a bit of everything for the family. I love the basketball and tennis courts. Very clean & well taken care of. My 7yr old niece had a fantastic time in the playground! It's a nice place to walk your dog and get to know neighbors. I love that it has benches all over & a game room inside of the community center.
