I had supper this evening at The Poacher's Arms. It's in the basement of an office building and they have a lot of space. I ordered garlic bread with cheese and a pound of wings with honey garlic sauce. Both were good and I'd order them again. There were nine wings to the pound and the wings were big! I'm not a drinker, back in the day yeah... but now I don't so perhaps if I were to check with my high school self I'd of said this place was great but the me now disagrees. Gone is the smoke-filled bar crowd (maybe they arrive later) but still there are the pool tables and same bathrooms though repainted and such. The company was amazing, love getting together with my friend Jen and sitting down for chat & grub so that gets five stars!! The meal not so much. Ordered a Shirley Temple, because well... why not I don't drink but doesn't mean I can't have a fun mock-tail. Unfortunately it came already mixed/stirred taking some of the fun away and also no fruit sword/fruit in glass. Wah wah. I opted for the Fish & Chips thinking, hey it's on the pub grub menu so... gotta be at least safe. Well if safe means cake-cod then yep it was, I don't think I'll get sick from it but it was not good. The cakey exterior of the batter on the fish was gross out number one. Gross out number two was the over dill-ed up slaw and the equally as dill tartar with no lemon or pepper to even it out. No amount of malt vinegar, salt or lemon was going to save that portion of the meal. However, the servers checked in with us at a fair amount of times without seeming intrusive and the fries had a good crispy seasoned coating with creamy texture inside. And as I said the company was fantastic. If I were a student, or drunk the meal might have faired better but alas... I'll likely pass this one over in the future but keep the company! read more

The 3 stars are for the "Poachers Trio" which isn't worth $9.99 as you only get 3 of each item. I was very disappointed. I shared the pulled pork flatbread later in the evening and that was amazing. Lots of beer options, but I'm a girl drink drunk and I was having trouble finding something that would really hit the spot. I settled for ordering long island iced teas that got progressively more watered down. Boo. I was waiting a while for a friend and one gentleman (possibly manager?) was kind enough to keep checking on me and we joked later with said friend that her name was Snuffaluffagus. However, this pub shines with how they deal with and host social events. I was there for a paint night and they immediately started a tab. The server in the paint room was fairly consistent in coming around, but I think a few ladies had some issues. As we left, trivia was going on and there was a decent crowd for that, too. I would be mindful of the menu and perhaps ask about the size of certain items because it does have some inconsistencies if you compare to other pubs (a $12.99 app platter elsewhere almost fills you up). But it is a good central spot to meet with friends and partake in one of the hosted events. read more

The service was a little slow but I ordered the meat loaf which was pretty good, the mash potatoes were a little salty and the veggies were soggy and not fresh. My company ordered the Sheppard's pie which was ok at best. The meat wasn't very flavourful and the gravy on top was a bit too salty. For the app itself we got the fried Mac n cheese bites which seemed like frozen pieces from a factory that were deep fried. It was still delicious but something I could cook at home. The service was a little slow a place that wasn't busy but overall nice and friendly staff. The atmosphere was very pub like and what you'd expect for a city known for its university. read more

We thought this was more of a British Pub (from signage) then a bar however it was more of a bar. The food was average/frozen nothing special except it was odd that the bartender was the cook as well and had to keep running back and forth from the back to cook and serve the bar area. Although the food was better then expected if you don't have separate cooks preparing your food how reliable can it be or how much emphasis to they put on food and the restaurant standards. The only other staff there looked like an owner, if a customer came in she ran to the kitchen to get the "Bar Manager" to come and serve them, she should be greeting and serving them herself to make things more smooth. read more

Came in on a sunday for board games. Took 1 hour for a server to come to us. My buddy ordered a burger with pop and the presentation was awful, the taste wasn't that good and he never got his pop. The server never came back to clean up the plate and we can see him sitting at the bar drinking with customers. Do not go here. Friend: "It seems large tables take top priority and small tables are frivolous to the waiters. The food was sub-par and my beverage wasn't served until after we have played two full games of a board game that takes an hour-and-a-half to play. The waiter that had served my food never brought my beverage and remained seated at the bar with another individual, completely ignoring his customers. The other waiters haven't even bothered to come near us for me to call him over until just before we left the restaurant. Four hours of being in the restaurant, waiters only coming to our table twice; it was an outrageous experience." read more

I used to use this pub when it was first opened by Don. Always loved the atmosphere and spent many a happy evening there, not to mention the meetings we used to have there when I worked at London Life opposite. It was wonderfully nearby, so we used it often! Glad to see that its still going! read more

Poachers Arms is definitely a pub. The atmosphere might be a bit dark for some but if you are looking for good real English pub food this is the place to find it. Portions are a good size and everything is reasonably priced. Its a great place to have a few drinks and still get a good meal. Last time I went I had the fish and chips. Fish was cooked perfectly and the batter was delicious. Everyone who came with was pleased with their meal. read more

Alright place. No complaints. Food and drink is cheap and it's usually pretty quite. It's really just a good place to hang out.

Started going before the re-modeling ( 1990's) which at least to me was better in atmosphere a real pub crawl experince ah well... prices have increased since the last time i was there. had one experience with a staff memeber awhile back while my friend & I were waiting for service when the waitress yelled from the bar area "what do you guys want?!" lol. anyway will try again sometime just for nostalgia purposes. read more
