This is the best tailor in providence. For hems and easy stuff I'll go elsewhere, but I'll only go to Pochues for anything more complicated. Make sure you bring your checkbook or cash though - no credit cards. Also sometimes you may be asked to put down a deposit, especially if you are like me and twice a year you end up with a whole pile of things that really need to be tailored to fit properly. Also if you have a bridesmaids dress or formal dress during the spring, make sure to come in early to allow enough time - I'm not the only one that only goes here! I took a dress here to be hemmed. It was a very simple job - a cotton dress with lining that needed the hem taken up a few inches. She was very nice and I got my dress back in just a few days. It cost $30 so I don't know how that compares to other places. When I got it back, it was the right length and looked fine. But when I went home I noticed that the pins she used left holes in the fabric. I feel like if you have been in the business for as long as she has, you might have a better idea of what types of pins to use or ways to pin the fabric so that it doesn't make a hole. Hold up, let me back up for a second. This was my wedding dress. I was going to the mountains to elope and I chose a simple Nanette Lepore frock. It wasn't an elaborate dress, the holes didn't show in photos and I didn't want to seem like a bridezilla so I didn't go back in and make a fuss. But I can imagine many other women would be enraged if this happened to their wedding gown, how ever small it may seem. I was still disappointed and it makes me hesitant to go back. I was starting to have doubts about my dress after it came in, and she truly helped me see the beauty in it and remember why I had chosen it in the first place! Wonderful job fitting in the bust, but the real showstopper for me is the work she did on my bustle. Most of the time, I think bustles can be really poorly done and look sort of tacked on and silly. She incorporated my bustle into the lace pattern and design of the dress, and it looked completely natural and seamless. I was so impressed. Caryn is an absolutely PHENOMENAL tailor. I took my wedding dress to two tailors before her--none of which matched her skill and sophistication. After working with Caryn (admittedly last minute, TWO weeks before the wedding), I felt perfectly secure for the big day. Caryn is not only the most detailed tailor I have ever worked with, but she is extremely conscientious of a bride's needs on her wedding day. Ultimately, we have a few very simple concerns: 1) Not tripping down the aisle (the length has to be absolutely PERFECT and certainly not too long) 2) Not flashing our guests (strapless dresses that slide down on a bride's wedding day are not okay!! Not even a little!! My first tailor told me that there was nothing she could do to keep it from sliding because of the material!? The second told me that I might gain weight before the wedding????) Caryn not only tailored my dress to the absolute perfect length, but she also added an elastic strap to the top and "tacked" the bust line for a flawless fit and finish. The dress had 6 layers. It wasn't an easy fix--but she made it seem so effortless. I honestly do not know what I would have down without her. My dress felt stable and secure the entire day. I didn't trip. I didn't have to worry about it (which is seriously clutch because there are 28394289 other things to worry about on your wedding day!!). I will be coming to Caryn from now on--no contest. This lovely lady was kind and caring when I came in with my dress in July and totally understood my fears regarding my bridesmaid dress, all it took was a short 15 minute poke and prod and she had my dress all pinned up to fit me. Now she does take only cash so ladies (and gents) put away the plastic. My bridesmaid dress required the shoulder to be taken in, and a three layered hem taken in. She told me on first inspection that it would be $135.00 and asked if that was okay which was very professional of her and I appreciated that.
