Went to use the weight room. Not a good vibe. Unfriendly atmosphere. Benches wobbly. Go somewhere else to workout.

The facilities will work for what you need but are extremely dated and definitely need to be overhauled. (Give them what they need YMCA!) The staff is very accommodating and friendly but the biggest issue with this facility is they close basically at 7:30pm which is the earliest I've ever seen anywhere and it's even earlier on the weekends. Our memberships cost more than planet fitness and they manage to be open 24/7, the least the Y could do is be open until 10pm. It's insanely hard to get out of work and get there and get a work out in before they close and forget about making it to the sauna. read more

The Pocono Family YMCA has friendly staff and a warm atmosphere. A lot of good programs including swim lessons, pickle ball and fitness programs. The building is old, but they are building a new pool and renovating the old building! read more

I never write reviews but let me tell you .. Brandin Newsome is one AMAZING worker there. I just HAD to tell you guys. If you need something handled ; it's always nice to know there's someone in your local community YMCA that actually cares. I'm a member of the YMCA in Auburn Maine. Since moving to Maine in June of 2021 I started using the facility first in Damariscotta, Maine. My RV was off grid and not equipped with running water. My sister told me I could get free showers at any YMCA. The Damariscotta facility is beautifully renovated. The workers and management welcomed me from day one and never tried to charge me for taking a shower. They have blessed me so much. Same with Auburn, Maine. They invited me to have a one month free membership. Auburn Maine is similar to Stroudsburg in population and probably more homeless than in Stroudsburg. The Stroudsburg YMCA IS NOT SO WELCOMING. There is a woman here who continually tries to refuse to let me in for a shower. She tells me that my membership is inactive or that "you can only use the shower certain times of the day". Even after other employees have verified my membership status. Yesterday I hadn't anticipated having a problem with her because I was there the prior Saturday and was able to go in and take a shower with no problem.( I am currently also living off grid in Poconos Pines, but still going back and forth between Maine and Pennsylvania and probably always will as I have property in both States), She began to tell me that I my membership is inactive or canceled, which is not true, and that I would not be able to go in. I tried calling the Auburn Maine facility but on Saturdays they close at 12:00 and it was 12:30 at that time. Stroudsburg is open till 2:00 pm but closed Sundays. I really needed my shower but she continued to refuse to let me go in, Unless I buy a day pass for $10. I could have given her the $10 to enter but I AM A MEMBER who could be experiencing financial hardship and I shouldn't have to be harassed for wanting to use the facilities that I'm entitled to with my membership. So I position myself close to the door and when she buzzed another lady in I slipped through ! She called out, "excuse me, excuse me" but I didn't pay attention to her and ducked into the ladies locker room. Thankfully there was no more fuss about it after that. In other words they didn't come after me and drag me out or sick the cops on me, which I thought could be a possibility, but I guess the employee with the complex didn't have the right to prevent me from entering after all. The YMCAs across the country are known as a community center to enrich the lives of the residents, members and visitors. They received donations and funding. I'm still in awe that they could have an employee that refuses to honor my membership and treats me in such a rude degrading manner. This particular employee managed to block me from entering when I first arrived in Pennsylvania early in March,2022 saying she needed till the next day to verify my membership which was active and all payed a few day ago before I left Maine for PA. She told me that I should go to the Wesleyan Church and try to get a shower there. I am a member of the YMCA in Auburn Maine and I feel that I was treated so badly in Stroudsburg Pennsylvania it was humiliating to say the least. Not once but twice. I very much doubt that there are many people coming in claiming that they have membership in other cities trying to take a simple shower that they should need to refuse me or anyone else. Perhaps this Stroudsburg PA YMCA employee would be better suited for a private club that does not rely on support and donations so to not mar the reputation of others with her lack of social consciousness and unhelpful demeanor which do not coincide with the generous philanthropy of it's donors. I would have loved to hear, "welcome weary traveler", or at least felt like I was. read more

The Pocono YMCA is a very old building and what they're doing is illegal the gym is located downstairs in the basement there is a emergency fire exit that leads to outside that is for emergency exits only... They're constantly letting senior citizens and other people in and out of these doors due to the fact that seniors and some handicaps could not use the staircase down into the old dirty gym a handicap entrance must be installed this is completely unsafe and illegal and it must be stopped immediately. read more

Everyone is helpful and friendly. I enjoy all the classes the pool temp is nice and warm. It is clean and has lots of machines

first time. right downtown and free off street parking behind the facility. another converted school to YMCA. pretty standard. $3 fee for members from out of town y's. quick waiver and you're in. not very good signage inside. a bit of a labyrinth to find the locker rooms (men second floor). then the pool and cardio and weight areas are strategically placed to keep you confused. plethora of helpers/volunteers strewn about and wiping down equipment. equipment old but useful. not much in the way of classes I wouldn't think. I observed one small room. maybe there were others. in all, it was nice to go when i was out of town. $3 was about right. id go back for convenience. read more

Old and dirty. Not enough parking. Men's lockers stick and need refurbishing. Shower heads are old, slow & powerless. (Just replaced 2 shower heads at least. Do the other 4 please! Often out of essentials, toilet paper, hand towels etc. the 2 stars are for the friendly staff. The building and facilities need upgrading and a good CLEANING. read more

Everytime I enter, I feel a little depressed. It's so dark and dated. They have really small windows in the cardio room, you can't even see outside. They make you pay extra to take a zumba class with no air conditioning, they use a fan and sometime they open the door. I mean really, when you open the door in the summer the humidity will almost kill you. I never need help sweating in zumba, so keep the door shut please. And can someone please tell me why the instuctors feel its ok to come to class late and then talk about random things. I know they know the regular's that come to class but talk to them after. People pay for the class and we want our full hour. I wish I could stop here, but the sauna needs to be cleaned badly. And the wood replaced. Lastly the people in the sauna seem never to come for relaxation, I say this because they have full conversations loudly. People please use your inside voice if you must talk. But here's a thought close your eyes and relax!!!!!! In short this gym should be shut down renovated and a new class of people should join. And last but not least, instuctors should be more respectful of your time. read more

Great location, but the building is old and dirty. I have used the cleaning sprays for the machines to wash the mouthpieces of the water fountains because they don't get cleaned. Seriously, how long does that take? The sauna, which I adore (it's the only one in town) is disgusting as far as cleanliness goes. It is not vacuumed, swept, or washed, despite the numbers sweaty people pouring sweat into it day after day. And yes, I use it anyway. That's how desperate I am for warm cozy places in the Poconos winter. The carpet visible under parts of some weight machines has a 1/4" layer of filth. Lint or dirt near the benches or machines can remain for weeks. There is seriously no excuse for this. The building can't help being old. But even old floors can be washed well. Complaining about it doesn't help. My husband and I have been members for 15 years, with our family. It was the only game in town for a long time. Now that there are newer, cleaner, cheaper alternatives, well be moving on. It's rather depressing. read more

The YMCA has wonderful programs for kids and adults and they are an asset to any community. I will start there. However, based on what it offers as a fitness center, it's absolutely no wonder that people have left in droves for Retro Fitness. For starters, the weekend hours are horrible. Most people who are working M-F look forward to getting in a nice workout on the weekend if possible. On Saturday, they don't even open until 8am, and they close at 5pm. On Sundays, the hours are ridiculous: 12pm - 5pm! And the worst part is that although they say on their website "Program areas close 15 minutes before building" the staff goes around 30 minutes to the hour to say they are closing in 10 minutes. At about 20 minutes to 5, they start kicking you out of the cardio room. Why advertise as being closed at 5pm, when it's really closer to 4:30pm? For whatever you are paying in a month you only have a very small window to get in a workout on Sunday. Very disappointing. The cardio room could definitely use some upgrades to the majority of their machines. Most have some glitches and many don't work properly. When there are only a handful of machines, this does make a huge difference. Also, why are some classes charged? Zumba for an additional $3.50 per class if you buy a 10 punch card? Or $5 if not! Yet another reason people have left for other fitness centers. If the YMCA wants to pick up business they should start by reevaluating how the fitness center is being run and what they offer to their members. read more

Good place to exercise, as it is never too busy or crowded. Large cardio room is great. Staff is friendly. A good number of classes, if you are into that kind of thing. My children enjoy the swimming lessons offered, and the using the pool on Family Fun nights. Need a bigger parking lot, though., as the lot is almost always full, and requires patrons to park on the street in metered spaces. Loved Camp Hidden Lake as a kid. read more
