Good camping reservoir for kayaking…read more The camp sites are kind of hot in the summer because of the scarcity of shade trees. Bringing your own shade structures is recommended. A picnic table is located at each campsite. There are portable potties at the campsite. There are a limited number vault toilets, also. The reservoir has a lot of wildlife in the vicinity. This includes a lot of bird life, fish, and a herd of elk.

There was another small parking lot closer to the trail. We walked past the camp sites to get to the trail. The sites were on the smaller side, but all of them seemed to have a spigot. I used the flushing toilets before starting the hike. We did the Fern Canyon Trail to Falls Loop Trail- 6.2 miles. The first part was mostly flat, but there is some elevation gain for the loop. We went counterclockwise, but you reach the waterfall quicker if you do the loop clockwise. The 36-foot waterfall might not be the most impressive, but it was nice. There's a fallen tree trunk in between the two streams for you to sit and take some photos. We sat on a bench afterwards and enjoyed the views while having some snacks. I guess we got there at a good time, right before a crowd of people descended. Overall, the forested hike was nice and peaceful, and we also spotted a banana slug. There are some muddy parts though. I wished I read a bit more about the park before going. I would've wanted to do the short trail for Devil's Punchbowl which also has views of the bridge. Darn...

I finally did it, with the help of a very kind stranger who held my hand and it felt all better. Interesting how a lot of the fear is in your head. Why is there not a better safer path to get there? The Rangers were lovely, the site host was very kind, we stayed at site 27 which was shielded from the wind, they had clean bathrooms and showers, a camp fire program on Friday night and sold wood onsite. We got to do a lovely hike, hang out at the beach, go to the Noyo fish Company in Fort Brag... it was great! We were also warned about a black bear who had been visiting recently. But alas did not have an encounter. However, we did find raccoon hand prints all over our table cloth and bear box. So do use your bear box!!

Only experienced the two lower loops closest to the entrance as well as the beach across the highway. It's an overall great campground. The only concern would be your neighbors and the mosquitos at sites that are along the creek. Most if not all sites are RV friendly. Anything larger than a mid-sized travel trailer, you might want to be selective. For trailers that are low profiled, stick to the lower loops to avoid scraping. Opted to never pull a trailer here because I'm not a fan of towing on highway 1. Typically, the host would drive around the campground delivering firewood at 12 dollars a bundle. Otherwise, they are available at the host's designated site.

Clean bathrooms and showers. Clean sites. There's a pool. Shore power hookups. Water hookups. Nice shades at some sites (site 20 and higher are the better sites.) The other guests mostly stayed in their campers/rvs. The 100 degrees temperatures probably had something to do with it. The campground met all our needs. We setup camp here and then explore the surrounding Clearlake community outside the grounds. We went to lake, the local community park where there was a Shakespeare play happening. We enjoyed a farmers market about 20 mins away.

We paid for a campsite expecting a reasonable night's sleep and instead spent most of the night awake listening to our neighbors. Because we got virtually no sleep, we made the decision to leave a day early. When I texted the host, I wasn't even asking for a refund--I simply requested a complimentary night for a future stay as a goodwill gesture. The request was immediately denied because of their "no refunds for early departure" policy. The issue isn't that we left early. The issue is that the campground did not provide the quiet, enjoyable experience that guests are paying for. Hiding behind a policy while ignoring the reason a guest is leaving is poor customer service and shows a complete lack of concern for the guest experience. If you're looking for a peaceful campground, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

As for the campground, the sites were clean and maintained. The facilities were also clean, the staff would thoroughly clean each bathroom and shower every morning and they emptied the trash bins throughout the day. Years ago the park ranger would enforce the rules and close the road after 10pm so cars dont drive by. it was complete chaos. people just did what they wanted. drunk people walking around peoples campsites when sleeping. vomiting everywhere. the day use area had parties till 2am and it even said its closed at 8pm but the gates werent closed like they are supposed to. im never coming back here again and Ive been going here since the 80's. its to bad this used to be an amazing camping site.

Since we were at the top of the loop, everything was below us so we had a nice view. The bathrooms have running water, and flush toilets. There are showers on the other side of the building. The bathrooms were decently clean, but, since we were staying AFTER the main season, the showers had become a back burner item. Wear your flip flops in there !!! The rangers drove by several times a day, but were basically useless. The people next to us had 6 cars parked in and near their campsite, sometimes partially blocking the road. The ranger just drove right by. Overall a pleasant stay, but I hope the open up Bushay next year!
