Bees swarming food after trap was placed

Extremely Disappointed - Not Worth the Money I recently stayed at Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort in Willits, CA for four days with my kids and some friends. We were really looking forward to this trip and even paid extra for an upgraded tent site -- but unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. From the start, our site was swarmed with bees, making it uncomfortable and even unsafe for the kids. We brought this up multiple times, and it wasn't addressed until the third time speaking with the owner. When they finally placed a trap, they put it right at our site, which actually attracted even more bees, and my kids ended up getting stung. The general condition of the campground was also very poor. Weeds were growing through all of the sports courts, rendering them unusable. I also found multiple screws in the gravel where cars drive -- a serious safety hazard. There is only one set of bathrooms to service the entire back half of the campground, and they're located closer to the cabins, which already have bathrooms, rather than the tent sites that actually need them. The pool was another major issue. The filter covers kept popping off when splashed, and I personally watched multiple children fall through them, getting scraped and gashed. When I brought this up to the owner, he brushed it off, told me I was lying, and said nothing would be done unless I called the health department to change the codes. I even suggested putting cones around the area for safety, and he responded that it would require "too many cones." To make matters worse, a large umbrella at the pool blew over in the wind, landing almost on to our group while we were sitting in the lounge chairs. It broke and we removed it from the base to prevent further injury. After reporting it to maintenance, they put it back up with a different base -- only for it to blow down again the next day. Eventually, the owner added a second base... and it still blew over. We asked if they could just remove it for safety, and were told no. The only positive thing I can say is that the front office staff were kind and tried to be helpful -- but their hands were clearly tied. The owners, on the other hand, were rude and dismissive of multiple serious concerns. I feel incredibly disappointed to have spent so much money on a trip we were excited for, only to be met with safety issues, poor maintenance, and unprofessional management. We will not be returning, and I would not recommend this campground to others.

Just returned from a fun & memorable family visit to Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort. Here's the tl;dr: We loved the property, our stay & the friendly, helpful staff. Everyone was consistently friendly & welcoming from beginning to end. Even while calling ahead to ask questions. Loved where it's located, how it's set up & run. Speaking with management, it's apparent they're prideful of the property & they're continuing to maintain & update it. They seem genuinely interested in providing a good experience to visitors. The campsites were spacious, level and well maintained. Water & power well appointed and reasonably private. This was our first trip of the 2025 Spring RV'ing season & our first time staying at this property. The Mrs. found it online while looking for a family friendly place, with easy access & to park our 30' RV trailer while hosting our adult children & our grandsons. This place checked all our needed boxes. We stayed in Site #69 which had a brand new hottub with a picnic table & umbrella on a nice concrete deck. There was a lot of privacy too. The wi-fi was solid throughout the park. When I mentioned that to the staff, we were told they recently upgraded the mesh system throughout the resort. We enjoyed hiking, fishing, playing horseshoes, mini golf & playing in the arcade. Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort is underrated & at the top of our list of places to stay!

I've been to plenty of campgrounds tent camping in my life. This our first time RV camping. I absolutely love their facilities. I was worried about coming because of previous reviews. I'm still here, but I'm so impressed with their service and cleanliness that I had to leave this review right away! I am camping here Monday to Thursday so it's definitely quiet so I can't speak to how it is during the weekends. The folks at the front desk/registration were so nice and helpful! Fellow RV campers were friendly and neighborly as well. Kids loved the splash pad, pool and hot tub. Restrooms were the cleanest I've ever seen camping. I loved that they had a small dog park too! Definitely coming back again!

Such kind people! Our rv broke down and they helped us get a cabin to wait. The kids loved all of the options of things to do! Such a great experience! And so beautiful!

Nice campground for kids and has a skunk train station in the back. It needs some of the paint redone.

This is hands down the worst RV park we have stayed at. Here is a list of all the reasons that make…read moreit terrible. In short, AVOID. 1) the owners are not only rude, but all the long term tenants (and this place is mostly people that live here full time) are scared of them. It's so weird, we had the permanent folks approach us on 3 different occasions telling us we were doing something wrong and the owners are super strict and they just don't want us getting in trouble. We got approached right when we arrived. Again the next morning. And one of them approached us again in the laundry room. We are parents of two kids, we weren't partying at all or even at the site to just sleep. So weird. 2) since it's mostly long term folks, this is their home, I get it, they don't want a bunch of vacationers ruining what they have going on, but why on earth are you even allowing people to camp for a few nights. It's crazy weird here. 3) no kids at all, nothing for kids to do. Don't come here if you want a kid friendly place. 4) your neighbors are literally a few feet away. Their picnic table is directly next to yours. 5) you have to hold your sewage connection down with a rock (I'm not kidding) 6) the people who live here full time, their dogs can bark but yours can't. I heard dogs barking constantly but we were approached by the owner after being gone for 1.5hr and she snarled and said "your dog was acting a fool" (her exact words) so we were forced to board our dogs bc their is no way our dogs won't bark when there are other dogs barking constantly a few feet away. 7) site is not nice Photos attached of our neighbors picnic table next to ours & our other neighbors on the other side of us to show how close you are. ****update in response to "business employee"**** This is by far the nicest and most respectful I have been spoken to by an employee since I arrived at the RV park. I have to wonder if they have someone managing their social media or who this person is, because they certainly weren't speaking to my family this way at the site. Also we were not offered a site in the back initially. We were told that there was a long term tenant with a skittish dog and it would not be good for us to be back there with our kids & dogs. When I brought up the space issue again after I was rudely approached and was told my "dog was acting a fool" (this is exactly how I was spoken to) she told me that there were sites in the back that did not have full hookups. This was after our first of two very uncomfortable nights there. Also - most sites there have stones over their sewage connection, so a bit surprised by their response on that topic.

We used #33 for the primary site as it was huge and accommodated all of us. The rangers did an awesome job at helping each person in the party find the site as we all arrived at different times. There is a steep hill right by the rangers station that we thought was too the swimming hole. We were mistakenly wrong and had an unintentional hike. We eventually found it in the hickey site adjust to us. This swimming hole was awesome! Kid friendly as there is a section of water that is shallow. It is a hike down and up but very worth it. For the showers, $2 gets you 10 minutes! I thought that was reasonable. Nice bathrooms and a lot of easily accessible water spouts and trash cans throughout the campground.

I was woken up a few times by passing trucks during the night, but it wasn't unreasonable. Cons: - So many mosquitos - bring bug spray. - Poison oak everywhere! There was a ton within a foot or so of our picnic table. - Yellow jackets - keep your food covered and tread carefully. - There must have been some heavy drinking going on around the campground, because we found the bathrooms covered in vomit a few times - the poor park rangers were doing their best to keep them clean, but yuck. Pros: - The swimming hole was fantastic. Warm water, DEEP, and fun to swim in. The hike back up was rough, but I'd do it again for that swimming hole. - Directly across from the Peg House, which is always a delight to visit. - The rangers would circle once an hour or so in a golf cart selling wood, which was super handy. Despite the cons, I'd be open to camping here again.
