This was a cute little park that I have never visited or been to even though I grew up just over the bridge. A fun little afternoon out for a nice drive and we ended here. Started off someplace else and just continued on to see and stop off at all the locations nearby. There's a good amount of parking along the street as well as some along the neighborhood. The park itself is overly big but it does have a good size to it. The nice massive trees lined the area. There's a nice little path along the sides where it looks out to the Pacific Ocean and the cliffs below. It was low tide so seeing the tide pools was quite beautiful. Along the path are little covered area which are label by number. Like mini covered patio with a table and seat. They too all looks out to the water. I believe there was a total of 8 seating enclosures along the path. Also, loads of squirrels roaming the place like it's nothing. They are not scared of you so be warn. Clearly there were signs not to feed the wildlife but there was people out with bags of peanuts feeding them. In the middle of the park is a little stage area and with benches. I'm sure they have theatre in the park happening if that's set up. And a playground around the side of it. There's also a lighthouse which is a focal point of the park. Situated right in the middle which now double as a museum. It's a cute park that I never knew about. Decent size for picnics or a nice wander around. The view alone along the path was spectacular. The cliff edge is dangerous so practice caution. Common sense, but they also had signs posted about suicides. It's a cute neighborhood park as along the front are homes right across the street. read more

Beautiful views of the ocean, I heard peregrine falcons nest in the nearby cliffs to the right of the park. Great picnic spot with wide swaths of grass and shade from trees. There is a scenic path along the edge of the park that is a relaxing walk, fresh air and breeze. The fruit sellers have a good variety of fruits, even cactus fruit. The pergolas with tables are prime spots, if you see a table open swoop in and grab it right away or it will get swooped up! In my short visit, I saw families, romantic couple and a guy jamming out on a guitar and a motorcycle club taking a rest break. read more

Point Fermin park is known for many things, starting with its ocean side state, and we cannot forget its casually used amphitheater that presents Shakespeare by the Sea in summer months, and including the many wonders that green grass witnesses: the humor and play of children as they kick balls and lick melting ice cream, family reunions catered with large Doritos bags, grilled patties and wurst and deep conversations by teenage youth who have yet to know what a broken heart truly results in, not only a crush of spirit, but a void in the spirit. But today, I catalog another beautiful moment that happened on the grassy annex trails that connect to the main grounds of the park- a man asking a girl to be his girlfriend with a moment that was enhanced by production value. My friend Conrad and I walked past the grassy Annex stretch, on a lengthy walk to meet the 10,000 suggested step requirement. And we saw a man and a woman setting something up with roses and tall. We crossed the street, as we believed we would view a rising Day of the Dead Altar. But when we were close, the woman explained that their friend was going to ask a girl he had been seeing to be his girlfriend. Then I understood, this was something between a promposal and a traditional proposal--- this was an over the top, will you be my girlfriend proposal? What can it be called? Something with the word steady? Something with the word promise? It has to be inclusive. Maybe- ?????- a rosesosal? I thought and pondered and this is where I landed. If you look at the video and pictures that corresponds to the review, the main heart is made with red roses. And I can easily imagine most proposals that make two people committed to one another, involve some type of rose. I mean, what would Valentine's day be, without bouquets and pedals--- barren, so roses are the red standard for moments like this, me thinks. I asked the girl if we could sit in a nearby bench to view the moment. She said yes. Conrad and I sat, and viewed them setting up the arch, the electric candles, the red carpet and the other items that would make this moment a spectacle to honor love. Conrad wanted to go, he felt that we were intruding on a private moment. But, then I explained to him, from my view point, that once they decided to have this moment in a public park the planners forfeited their right to privacy. If a girl is making out with another girl in a school's hallway, during operational hours, she cannot then explain that she wants to protect her same-sex attraction from others, because she did not do her best to keep the fact a secret. As Conrad and I were having this healthy debate, a man shouted from a moving car, "don't do it turn around!" He was maybe funny, maybe crass, but he was completely within his right to shout a stab at the romantic momeny, why, because once they decided to host their event in public sight, they invited public opinion and as we all know some people keep their opinion to themselves, and others will speak their opinion freely. However, I understand that decency demands that people respect the public actions of others, if they are meant to be a moment shared between the few. I take comfort in the fact that I awed in the moment, and cataloged for what it was--- an act of hope for days full of love. Conrad was pushing to go. But we stayed long enough for the car to come. The girl had a blindfold on as she got out of the car. The set-up guy, hid behind a tree, all giddy in crouch, and turned on the music and sparklers as the girl approached the red carpet. I felt the joy of the moment, held on Point Fermin Park. The girl eventually said yes, she was now half of a couple. She was honored with pomp and circumstance. She was asked to be exclusive with romance made physical. The guy most truly see this woman as the one, at least in this moment of time. The pair who helped the man asked the blindfolded girl to be his girlfriend were accomplices in act of romance that was a story for them all to carry. And I who witness the event, felt lucky to have viewed corny done right, and received well. It was a wide-screen movie moment done with high school props that landed with good feeling. In the midst of the world's pain, a girl had a roserosal that I am sure made her special, and to quote the great Riri, like she was the only girl in the world. read more

Point fermin will never disappoint. It is a great for a day trip. It's lush scenery historic significance, and educational value will leave you in amazement. This location is perfect for picnics with with concrete tables. Each offering distance from others. Did I mention this location is Squirrel happy, they will come right up to you. Came to see the San Pedro Sunkin City, but could not get the Sunkin City posting other than this site. I enjoyed the park in the past and have been here several times this past summer for a couple, of concerts and other events. We had such a blast. The park is located next to Sunkin City which is a road that slid into the ocean and took a few homes with it. Beautiful place if it wasn't for the Graffiti some vandals placed on the rocks. So. Many. Squirrels. And lizards on the two ways down to the ocean from Point Fermin. Both which lead to a very steep, narrow number of stairs so climb carefully! At the bottom you'll find endless beautiful waves crashing but this isn't the place to bring your blankets and sunbathe because it's super rocky and the tide is high. Signs say no trespassing, and you do have to go over a gate, it's illegal if you get caught over there, also lots of people slip and fall to their death sometimes. Google it. Point Fermin Park is one of those unique spaces on the Southern California landscape. It is this nice park, at the end of the road, that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Whereas many parks are set up with basketball courts, football fields, and other sports related activity areas, this is not the case with Point Fermin. Mostly, this is just a very scenic park where people walk, have picnics, and do things like that. Yes, they do have a small, yet very unique amphitheater, where once upon a time I imagine they gave concerts and put on plays. I have not seen anything like that going on in recent years, however. But, the amphitheater is still there and it is a unique historic structure. This park is also home to a large house, constructed a long-long time ago, where you can get tours. If you're into doing stuff like that, this gives you a peek into the way life used to be in Southern California. For you adventurers who want to investigate truly unique Southern California locations, this is also the park where are you climb over the fence and walk down to Slab City. Technically, you're not supposed to do that, but that doesn't seem to stop the many graffiti artists and others who want to walk down among those formations. Overall, if you want to take a nice walk along the California coast, from an elevated location, and see the wonders of the California landscape, this is a great place to do just that. There's plenty of parking along the outer ridge of the park, and the parking is free. Also, if you look Eastward and upward you can see the Korean Bell. Overall, nice park. Point Fermin Lighthouse is a park in San Pedro overlooking the ocean. Light at the Lighthouse was a recent free event, a yearly free Christian concert celebrating its 20th year anniversary, this past last Saturday of August. Before COVID-19 lockdown there used to be the Filipino Festival of Arts around every September, another free event with good food and good music. Now, today, we are just kind of ambling along enjoying the fresh air. Looking at the falcons or hawks or eagles. And ravens and crows. And seagulls. And sparrows and butterflies. The Point Fermin Lighthouse and park celebrates recently its 150th birthday anniversary celebration. And so here we are with a bag of peanuts and walnuts and almonds. To feed the wild squirrels. There are hopefully many "tame" dogs out being walked today. Dog walking spotting is also a fun sport. read more

The park consists of tree-shaded lawns, sheltered pergolas, colorful gardens, and a promenade along the edge of the palisade. This scenic park is the southernmost point of LA, which provides spectacular views of the coast, and is a perfect site for picnics and a leisurely stroll. This beautiful dog-friendly park has an amazing view of the ocean. The architecture is stunning; and the lighthouse has a lot of charm and character. I love seeing the chipmunks scurry all around the park. I took off star off due to the condition of the park. It has unfortunately been vandalized by hoodlums. Trash and litter are all over the grounds and graffiti covers many of the signs and walls. It is somewhat disheartening that this amazing park (in a spectacular location) has been spoiled by people in the community. Parking is free and the parking lot is large and easy to navigate. You could easily spend an hour or so here. There are shaded picnic tables throughout the park - it would be perfect to enjoy a small meal here to take in the view. read more

Went to go watch a production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night here at their amphitheatre. Such a great production and great park. The atmosphere was really nice. It gets super cold at night. Definitely bring a blanket/sweater. Parking is limited. So get there early. Picnic, play, or just hanging out it's a cool place to go and experience for yourself. read more

Great park overlooking the bluffs, the furthest point south in Los Angeles with 37 acres of tree-lined lawns, picnic areas, play areas, and a small amphitheater, perfect for annual events like San Pedro car show (see my review) and Shakespeare by the Sea, which for the locals they change to "Dos Gentlemen of Verona", "King Juan", "Much Ado About Nada", and "Julio Caesar." The park and neighboring Walker's Cafe are used for TV and movie, most notably for "Chinatown", "Gods and Monsters", "500 Days of Summer", and "Inherent Vice." Oh yeah, and "Freaks". Not the movie, just in general. I went there late with a date one night in 2009. Saw a fox and a raccoon. It was like a Disney movie, if not for the impending danger of hoodlums. read more

Updating my review from 14 years ago, I can add a few things of interest: I've heard of gigantic raccoons in the park at night, and now there's a sign warning of coyotes. There's now kiddie play equipment. Today I saw a car leave the (free) parking lot & accidentally drive right down one of the paths in the park (heavy fog). Yikes. The trees in this park are spectacular. So are the views, but not today in the fog. The fog was so thick that the ground was as wet as if it had rained. It was beautiful. read more

I came here with a friend for a nice afternoon walk. I've been to this park before. It is my escape from the daily grind, as it has a relaxing vibe and a great view overlooking the ocean. Parking is not an issue here, as my friend an I found parking under the shade. The restrooms were not too far from the parking area, but the men's restroom is not too well kept. There are ample grassy areas to lie down and read a book or enjoy the breeze. A playground, stage, and barbecue pits are scattered throughout the park. No one really notices much who goes in the sunken city, or if they take the steep hiking path on the other side of the concrete barrier. Just watch where you step. I sometimes came here at night, and it is far more desolate. Perfect for a late night stroll with a date. Just watch out for the stray cats, skunks, and raccoons. read more

Just a short walk from the lovely Korean Bell is Point Fermin Park, a place that is much better than its funny name. Here you can walk along a majestic cliff overlooking the ocean, enjoy a quaint lighthouse, and see Shakespeare in the summertime. Shakespeare by the Sea, the company that brings Shakespeare to this and many other parks, bills itself as a theatrical troupe established to create theatrical experiences for under-served, culturally diverse audiences. Picturesque location that I've been visiting for years and years. Used to surf down the cliffs at Mossy and play football with the gang, (and lots of beers), as a kid. I've been here for many, many summer festivals, (both music and food), and probably even more "walks along the coast" with the wife and dogs. Plenty of children's apparatus' for the little ones and because it is on the coast, the weather is typically "divine" to say the least. But be forewarned, it can get windy and is often times overcast so always (even in the summer) bring a sweater for the little ones... read more

It's a nice, unique, peaceful place. Nice big park by the ocean, home of the Point Fermin Lighthouse (you can visit it, they offer tours starting at 1 p.m. especially on the weekend). Spectacular views from up there. Also, this is the home of the Shakespeare by the Sea, they have a cute permanent stage. This picturesque place was a great break in the action for us. Every time I visit my favorite sandwich spot (Busy Bee Market) I come here to enjoy my delicious meal. Its truly an ideal spot to enjoy a meal. With beautiful nature all around you, you'll be sure to be refreshed by the scenery available. As I said before I usually go here to eat my sandwiches in one of their many park benches located throughout the property. The park is located in a cliff that overseas the ocean, on a beauty day it's truly breathtaking. Or if you're lazy like me, you'll sit down and eat your food while taking in the view. The park also has other positive attributes but what else do you need to know besides come check it out. Parking is fairly available and free in the immediate vicinity. There's even a cool biker bar nearby (never been there but it looks cool). It's a great park to enjoy yourself, so make sure to check it out. read more

Always love this part we've been coming here for over 20 years there have been movies filmed and here celebrations just awesome view of the ocean nice kids area always an ice cream truck or a guy selling cotton candy and toys to play with come early it's crowded so much shade you can follow sleep on the grass. Huge trees for the kids to climb a lot of low riders and bikers yet friendly. The bathrooms are old like a campground has flushing toilets. cold water only not a good place to change a baby's diaper no locks on the bathroom doors.
