Went horseback riding here recently and overall had a great experience. The location is beautiful and not overly built up, which makes it feel really peaceful. It was the get away I was looking for. There are a lot of trails, and while we didn't spend a ton of time right along the ocean, the hillside views were still really nice. We had a great guide. The setup is cute, and I loved that they let you interact with the horses beforehand -- they seem to take good care of them while still making it enjoyable for guests. On our ride, we were paired with a couple who has been taking lessons there and they had nothing but great things to say, which was really reassuring. Only downsides: the website is pretty confusing and pricing for certain things wasn't very clear. It is a bit pricey, though. That said, I'd definitely go back -- and if I lived closer, I'd even consider lessons. But it is just too far for me to make the commitment. read more

Booking was pretty simple via the website but it was disorganized when we arrived. We had booked a few hours for a kids birthday party and it seemed no one acknowledged us when we arrived and were more preoccupied with the hourly/individual riders. There wasn't anything party-like where we set up our party (outdoors; few dirty tables and a large connect 4 game). The website stated kids 8 years and up could ride so we had to exclude a bunch of younger kids under 8. However, no one asked or checked the age of the kids...so...what the hell. Anyway, all the logistics were poorly executed, given no one even acknowledged us and the birthday party event we had booked, so a lot of the parents dropped their kids off and left, leaving us to scramble to get waivers signed in order for the kids to ride. Maybe it was our fault when we booked the party that the $900 only included a 2-lap ride around the stables area...smaller than a tennis court. That was pretty lame. Other than the kids entertaining themselves with the goats and the stable's dog, the cost do this event was definitely not worth it. I would not recommend for any birthday party. Maybe the 30 min ride would have been a bette option for individuals, but this left much to be desired. read more

The horses and the views were gorgeous, so I'll start there. The 2 guides that went on our ride got us lost on a trail that was completely overgrown with trees and bushes, didn't give a lady that came late her walkthrough so she kept messing up and causing us to wait repeatedly, and one of the guides was having trouble controlling her horse the whole ride which cause the same start and stop issue. I tried over the course of almost 3 weeks with 10+ calls and 4 emails to them to get this addressed and Zachary, supposedly a manager of some sort, refused to respond and address the issues. I even let him know I'd be willing to forego negative reviews if he'd at least have a conversation and he chose to ignore all voicemails and subsequent emails. His staffs mishaps could have ended up terribly as no one on the ride had any experience and the trail required some intermediate maneuvering capabilities. All that said, if the management team took a more effective approach to training and equipping their staff, this could be a great place to come back to. Until then, I'll visit places that ensure client and staff safety and make time to correspond with clients regarding concerns. read more

OMG!! Where do I begin? I have always wanted to do a sunset horseback ride. Me and my bestfriend found this place online. The online booking process was easy. We picked a date and was ready for the adventure. We got there and was greeted by two knowledgeable female trainers. They gave us the do's and don't. Told us the signs to look for on the horses to determine their moods. Gave us our safety helmets, then trained us on top of the horses inside the walking area to get us comfortable and prepare us for the tour. Once we began the tour along the trail, I was overwhelmingly amazed. The trail is set along the coastside of the ocean. Nothing but ocean views from the top of the hillside. Then we headed down the hillside to walk along the beach. It was gorgeous and so relaxing and the weather was perfect. The whole tour last about 1.5 hrs. I believe 30 mins of that was getting trained on the horses. The ladies went above and beyond to make sure we had a good time and was safe. I HIGHLY recommend this place. Take a horseback riding class, or just do the tour. I promise, you won't be disappointed. I can't remember if either lady mentioned their names, but one rode a motorcycle, and the other was short with dirty blonde hair. Thanks ladies, you rock! : ) read more

In my opinion, Oceanview Stable has disorganized management. Due to incorrect information from customer service, a staff member agreed to cancel the lesson plans, but charges continued because of internal miscommunication. Management refused to acknowledge the mistake or issue a refund. Instructor quality is inconsistent, and my daughter had a different instructor almost every time who did not know her level. I was also very concerned to see an injured horse still being used for lessons. The horse was nervous and sensitive, which felt unsafe for children, and it showed a lack of concern for animal welfare. Overall, a very disappointing and unprofessional experience. read more

The best horseback riding experience I've ever had! I've done trail rides during my travels--in SoCal, Arizona, Mexico, etc. but never have I experienced the horsemanship part in the beginning. I loved that & it should be a standard for everyone to do because it just makes sense, especially for those who have never ridden before. The trail rides I've done they usually just inform us how to turn & stop & that's about it, then we immediately go on the trail ride. I loved this experience because I actually got to learn about the horses too, it wasn't just about riding them. I learned things I never have before, which again are basics but should be taught for everyone trail ride experience. If you're gonna ride an animal you should know how to approach them, interact with them, trust them, etc. Even the trail was beautiful with all the mountain & ocean scenery, it was the best way to highlight California's beauty. Not one to leave reviews but this was so perfect it had to be done. My lovely Wife had riding horseback on the beach on her short list of things she dreamed of doing. I set up a surprise ride with the team at Oceanview stables with no expectations short of perfect day out doing different things with my Wife. We showed up on the most beautiful day clear in the bay, which is rare in and of itself. The horses were gorgeous and the staff helpful and happy. My Wife saddled Rose and I Raven. Zach and Kirby took us out for a ride. They were fantastic gentleman with my Wife who had never ridden. They gave her full confidence and comfort in riding. The setting was beautiful, the trails fantastic, the conversation and the private time couldn't have been curated more perfectly. 10/10 will do it again and would recommend to anyone who interested and even those who have not even thought about it. Cannot say enough about our experience. Will support this Veteran own business being run by a family and improving our beautiful Bay Area activity options. When we arrived, we were paired with two beautiful, well-trained horses Raven and Brandy who were calm, responsive, and perfect for our ride. Jamie was our amazing guide with 16 years of guide experience with Oceanview Stables. He took us through the most amazing trails atop the mountains running along the ocean. He shows incredible attention while riding keeping an eye on all the riders and horses so nobody falls behind or having horse issues. First, thanks to our guide Sunny for her patience and instruction during our maternity photoshoot. And thanks to our horse Zeus for being so good to us. The poor review is due to their miscommunication and just overall lack of communication. We've been looking for a stable that allows me to take a shot on top of the horse while pregnant. Many stables in the East Bay allowed me by the horse but rejected the idea of me hopping on the horse. I understand it's risky even with previous riding experience. We tried calling Ocean View to ask but no answer. So we drove 1.5 hr to visit the stable to ask them personally. The gentleman we spoke to said they'd allow it. Right away, we booked and paid almost $300 for the shoot weeks in advance and specified in the booking exactly what we wanted from the shoot. I tried calling many times and submitted an online inquiry days before the shoot requesting a call to discuss logistics. No answer from them. We arrived to our shoot when the owner caught us on her way out. She got out of her car to tell me I could not ride the horse. I totally understand it's a potential safety issue but 1) why did your employee give me a definitive approval, and 2) if it was not ok, why not communicate that with me as soon as the booking and my money came in? She proposed a refund for the shoot, failing to consider there's a process for these shoots: makeup/hair/photography costs, plus a 1.5 hr drive for me and my photographer. We agreed to proceed anyway because it's not an easy decision to turn around and go home. However, it's disappointing that all of this could have been avoided if they had better management over their bookings and simply communicated beforehand. Just answer your phone. I think a partial credit is fair but they're not even answering their phone to discuss this. I could have just booked a cheaper stable much closer to home to just stand by the horse. I booked a Friday morning horse ride for my 8-year-old granddaughter and myself. It's now Friday night and I'm writing this review. I have only the best things to say about Ocean View Stables and their staff. They were friendly, kind, thorough in their lessons, and professional throughout. The horse ride was a beautiful experience. You couldn't find a better environment. And my granddaughter took to it all like a natural. I want her to have more Ocean View Stables experiences. One caveat- I'm 76 years old; active, hiking, and working full time in a strenuous job. I've never been on a horse before, but I figured, "Sure, I can do this." WRONG! From the minute I got on my horse, everything from my waist down got painful. I continued with our ride because I didn't want to disappoint my granddaughter. Our guide Juan and the rest of the staff handled everything perfectly. But I realized I had no business getting on a horse again. This is nothing against Ocean View Stables - They handled everything, including my painful dismount, perfectly. I endorse and recommend them to anyone who's fit enough to horse-ride. And, yes, they deserve to be tipped for their services. read more

Our child just turned 3 and we booked the shorter arena ride for a border present since 3 is the youngest they will take. No joke, it's a full sized horse as they say. We had Breeze who was super breezy and calm. While this is a small little circle that they take your child around, it's a great first experience. It's not like the little ponies at Lemo's where they are fully strapped in; they just sit on top of a saddle with little stirrups and off they go. Would recommend again for a youngster or as a great first intro to a full sized horse. Ride is super short (perfect for a toddler). read more

My wife had scheduled horseback riding since riding a horse is a new experience for me, we happened to be 10 minutes late due to some family matters that had occurred over the last week and a half, not sure what his name is but this dude was extremely rude, hesitant on wanting to even acknowledge and respond to my question. Told us he gave a call which in fact he did not didnt even want to bother to try and prep us and get us ready to go along with the group mind you he was giving the horse he rode water; he had one ladys horse getting ready to walk into the giant water bucket for the horses and her partners horse going and doing its own thing; all while hes saying that we would have to reschedule for another day said he tried to call (again he did not) and walked away so i asked another "handler" that was there if we were able to receive a refund because we pretty much spend nearly 500 dollars for a shitty ass first impression and to be completely rejected and disregarded as if we did not put money into this mans pockets. Its preposterous that people have little to no patience with people coming to experience a service we thought would be a nice place to go to but definitely had been proven wrong. read more

June 30th is the day I set my reservations up with Zoey, I loved her energy over the phone, she was very invested into me wanting to make this day extra special for my husband and our 20th anniversary as bf/gf lol yes I still celebrate both lol next week we'll be celebrating 8 years of marriage. Zoey and I was bouncing ideas off each other and I just love how she actually cared, you don't get that often with people for many reasons. So that alone is one reason why I booked that same day. 7/8/23 day of the event I got there just before the session traffic was a mess I deff recommend being there 30 min early just so you can sign waivers and unload things for your picnic. It was a beautiful ride the water was beautiful, the horses were very sweet, and disciplined. Just want to elaborate for the picnic they don't set it up for you they bring it down for you, so be mindful when you pack your food with liquids that can possibly spill from the ride. I think it would be a little better if it was really set up down there and you just arrived, roses etc etc depending on the occasion, blankets mini table to put the food on etc etc. I made a charcuterie board because I didn't know what to expect, and that was perfect for us. Jacob was very educated on the horses, didn't feel rushed usually when your the last session often times the customer service and energy go down lol but no he had much personality and held great conversation. Booked a trail ride on a clear, warm, stunning summer afternoon. Luckily, the rest of our group did not show up, so my partner and I essentially got a discounted VIP ride. We were set up with our horses when we got there and one of our guides gave us a quick riding lesson. We rode down the coast side trail, all the way down to the beach, then back up . I have lived my whole life in the area, but it was my first time seeing the incredible ocean views from up there. We were a bit nervous before getting started, but our guides were fantastic and made us feel very safe. The horses were also very calm and responsive; they knew exactly where they were supposed to go (I barely needed to use the reigns at all to guide them). There is a bit of a decline at the beginning of the trail and at times you can get pretty close to the edge of the cliffs, so if you are afraid of heights then this may not be for you. Make sure to wear long pants and close toed shoes, as you'll be navigating through the sharp brush along the trail. I would also recommend planning ahead to go on a day with good weather -- it would be a shame to miss the ocean views on a cloudy/foggy day. I highly recommend booking a ride at Ocean View Stables for an amazing experience with your loved ones! This was our first time horseback riding, so no experience needed. DO NOT GO HERE. This place nearly killed us. My wife went off a cliff on her horse and almost died. I had to jump off mine while it was sprinting at nearly 25 mph just to avoid serious injury. Yes -- you're reading that correctly. This actually happened. We both understand that riding horses carries some risk -- what we don't understand is the complete lack of professionalism and basic safety standards at this stable. Before we started the trail ride, no one gave us any kind of training or safety briefing. There was no explanation of how to control the horse, what the trail would involve, or what to expect. A 12-year-old girl casually told me to "get on" the horse. I literally had to ask her how I was supposed to steer or stop the animal. That should have been the first red flag. It became painfully clear that the staff were not properly trained -- or worse, didn't care. There was no plan communicated, no guidance given, and no attention paid to whether riders were comfortable or even safe. It felt like they were just herding people onto 1,000 lb animals and sending them off without a second thought. To make matters worse, I later found out that the horse I had been assigned was a retired racing horse -- completely unsuitable for a beginner rider like myself. No one disclosed this to me beforehand. It's beyond negligent to pair an untrained rider with a high-speed, high-strung animal and then offer zero instruction or oversight. Thank God for Jaime, who miraculously managed to save my wife after her horse bolted toward a cliff. If not for him, this could've ended in tragedy. I genuinely believe that without his intervention, we wouldn't be here writing this review. This was one of the most terrifying experiences of our lives -- and it was 100% preventable. Do not risk your safety here. There are plenty of reputable, responsible stables out there. This is not one of them. read more

The staff are kind and knowledgeable, the time you booked includes a brief safety lesson to make sure you know how to handle yourself on a horse, and the terrain where you ride is gorgeous. The hospitality, location, training of the horses, and of course the natural beauty you get right into on your way to the beach is spectacular. They just started 8 months ago and have great plans for a ranch, glamping experience by the ocean. Also, they have the coolest dog!!! I learned safety, how to brush and saddle a horse along with mounting and riding. They staff was extremely nice and understanding. The views were breathtaking along the path to the beach. My wife grew up riding with this stable but under different ownership. Unfortunately this group does not reply back and give back information in booking. We lease horses and this was going to be something she wanted me to try with her due to it being one of the places she grew up riding. Personally I wouldn't recommend them on ( customer service alone ) with me that should be priority. There are a lot of other stables to choose from I wouldn't recommend this place to family or friends. read more

Started off awesomely. My 10 year old was thrilled to be taking the 1 hour horsemanship class. The staff were all very nice. First 20-30 minutes went well with my daughter learning how to stop, turn...Then, while my daughter was riding Mocha, the horse just fell over. Thank goodness my daughter jumped off so she wasn't trapped underneath the horse. The trainer mentioned the horse had an itch. Okay. I know zero about horses, but you would think just an itch wouldn't have a horse just fall over. At this point I should have stopped the session, but I was going with what the trainer told me. The horse just got right up and the trainer had my daughter back on. 5 minutes later a bird flew by and the horse jumped. Right before the end of the session Mocha was spooked the wind. At that point it was over and my daughter happily walked Mocha back to rest. My daughter expressed that she was scared, but still wanted to ride (After the session) The trainer then held onto the horse the rest of the time, which helped me with letting the session continue. After speaking with my friend who owns horses, I want to know why would you put a child who is a beginner on a horse that might not be desensitized? Or skid-dish? We were going to book a beach ride for the family, but we will not be booking here. I gave 2 stars because the staff were very nice. read more
