Discovered this little gem of a winery while touring the Marin Coastal area. Super cute little place owned by a sweet couple. Only winery in Marin, been growing Champagne grapes since the early 1990s. Nice selection of wine. Very down to earth and homey. Loved the Grateful Dead flag and stories of a visit from King Charles sometime way back. Please stop in for a nice experience. One of a kind. read more

There's a reason this place has such low ratings. I normally don't stay places with less than 4/5 stars. I should have followed my gut. DO NOT stay here. We booked a room, called within 15 minutes of booking to cancel as they sent an email saying my 3 month old baby wasn't allowed to stay. I tried calling 3X and they never answered. I sent multiple messages, not responded, but they kept my $300. They still have yet to call me back or respond to my voicemails. Not a proper business. If you are a snob, go to Napa. If you want to try some well crafted local wine, experience friendly service, and enjoy the coastal scenery, stop by this winery. The Big Pinot was our favorite red, with the 2004 Cab (very reasonably priced) a close second. The dessert viognier was unique, with a nice woody flavor. The sparkling was just ok at first sip, and then left a lingering finish that was very pleasant. They put out a local cheese, which is a nice touch. Check the date if you buy soft cheese. We bought some Red Hawk (a favorite) that, as it turned out, was starting to turn. read more

We stopped here on a whim while in the general area two weeks ago. Quaint little place with a very friendly, knowledge woman pouring "fair" glasses of sample wines. Overall, I was not overly impressed but it was better than I expected for the area / climate. My favorite was the 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon. It was rich and full bodied, not fruity. It provided for a hint of pepper but with a little more sediment than I prefer. Bottom line, I would not recommend making a special trip here for the wine, while it is certainly worth a stop if you are already in the area. read more

We had brought cheese and crackers from Cowgirl and when we asked the Owner to eat them there, she assumed we were buying them from her - a little awkward at first. Once we got to the tasting, we had 5 wines and I thought the best were the Cabs and the Dessert Wine. While I liked the low key nature of the place, the awkward confrontation at first was a little weird and the wines were just average. read more

We had booked this place to stay for a wedding in the area. When we found a better deal elsewhere I physically called to cancel our reservation well in advance. I spoke to the wife of the husband and wife ownership duo. THEY STILL CHARGED US ALMOST $400! How dirty is that? Good thing I used my Apple Card and they are great about resolving disputes. Also they wanted to charge me extra to have our son stay with us as well. I will never book or support this place in the future. Too bad you can't leave zero stars. read more

We knew that after hitting up the Marin French Cheese Co,, we were gonna find a winery in the area. Actually, anywhere we go in CA, we always try to hit up at least ONE local winery. So down Highway 1 we went and happened upon a sign at the intersection with Novato Blvd that proclaimed there was a Point Reyes Vineyards winery and that it was open...woot! Lovely place, with very nice and knowledgeable pourer ladies, with a nice selection of wines for the tasting. The $5pp tasting fee for seven tastes is waived if you buy a bottle, FYI. Personally, I like whites and bubbly and dessert wines, while Hubby is the red conoisseur. Loved the bubbly; not a fan of non-oak Chardonnays; loved the late-harvest Viognier. Hubby liked the '98 Cab and the Syrah, and ended up buying the $17 Claret. All in all, a great experience to add to our great day in the Point Reyes area. We'll be back next time we venture out to these here parts :) read more

What a great little winery off the beaten path. We'd been meaning to check out Point Reyes Winery for quite some time--we'd tried some of their sparkling wines and wanted to see what else they made but had never been up that way on a weekend (their tasting room is only open on weekends or by appointment, I believe). We finally made it in on a Saturday in October and were so glad we did. We were blown away by the huge selection of wines they make and pour: Sparklings, Cabernets, Syrahs, Zinfandels, even some Pinot Noirs. The tasting room gals, two of them, were fabulously witty, chatty and knowledgeable. We bought a few bottles to drink there (Sparkling) and a few for the road and set up a nice picnic in their garden. read more

This place is incredibly special! Where else can you buy and taste wines from the 90s?! These are amazing wines, mostly Cabernets that have aged since the 90s or early 2000s and at a very fair price (around $35 a bottle). They also make a sparkling wine, a Chardonnay, a Pinot, and a dessert wine which makes for a great tasting. There are always super nice hosts and they have a beautiful patio where you can enjoy a picnic. Nice and safe for Covid. Oh and they're dog friendly outdoors! read more

We popped in for a tasting on a Friday afternoon and tried the flight. An un-oaked chardonnay, 2 old cabernet sauvignons (2009?), a syrah, and a sparkling pinot noir. I hate to say it, but all wines were sub-par, and not typical of their style. The chardonnay was especially off putting - we picked up a bottle thinking it might be OK for mimosas or sangria, and even that is a stretch. It has almost a diesel nose, no fruit, and a funky finish. The syrah was probably the most palatable, but not great and definitely worth the cost. Kids and dogs are not allowed in the tasting room as well - my family had to stay outside. I'm giving 1 star for the Grateful Dead memorabilia in the tasting room, and 1 star for the location, but I'd pass if you are more interested in the quality of the wine - there are hundreds of other top-notch choices not far from here in Russian River Valley. read more

I have waited a week to write this review in the hopes that I would get over what happened and move on. I am not a vindictive person and do not generally vent on yelp. ...Nope, still angry about this. This business deserves a negative review. My wife and I and our two kids were visiting Pt Reyes last weekend for my best friend's wedding and had booked a room here. We got in late Friday night, as our kids were getting sleepy and ready for bed, and the innkeeper turned us away. He asked if we had young children, I told him yes, and he told us to find somewhere else to stay. this was at 9pm on a busy weekend in Pt Reyes. We had reserved the room in advance, a room for 4 people, and no one had the courtesy to check in with us prior to see if perhaps we were a family (seems pretty obvious that 4 people reserving a room are a family). I am not sure if it is against the law to discriminate against families, but I do believe it is morally repugnant to turn away a family that has booked a room at your inn, at 9pm the night they are supposed to sleep there. We got a room across the bay at a crappy hotel and the kids didn't sleep at all because we didn't get checked in until 11pm. The next night we had to go stay in Marin because Pt Reyes was totally booked. This innkeeper ruined our weekend and actually changed the way I feel about Point Reyes. It is such a beautiful place and has been so meaningful for me, but if I can't bring my kids up, what is the point? And if people there think it's okay to turn away a family at night because they are afraid of kids being kids? I hope you are reading this, shame on you. Your business does not deserve my wonderful family's patronage, and I hope this review turns others away from you. read more

My visit here was insane. Darren R., Justin R., M and myself had planned on hiking up at Mt. Tam, and after a hungover brunch in SF, headed up to Marin. We got to the Pantoll Ranger station, and after taking a leak, decided to bail on hiking. (Insert story about running into the girl I had met THE NIGHT BEFORE at NAPS of all godforsaken places in the Mission. Clearly, this was a sign of the madness to come...) Eating and drinking seemed like a better idea. So, instead of burning calories, we decided to just keep on going up the coast to Pt Reyes to get some oysters. It didn't go exactly as planned. We swung by Cowgirl Creamery (amazing) and picked up some cheese (St Pat!!), pate, salumi, and bread, and then headed to the winery, where Justin R. & M had been before. The tasting began as most do: smalltalk, a few pretending-to-know-what-the-hell-is-up wine comments, etc. But something about this place was just a little off. Maybe it was the "Dead Red" wines on the mantle, with their Grateful Dead-themed labels. Or the Pt Reyes Vineyards neon-orange hunting caps. Or the really smelly dog, "Spot" who kept sitting on my feet. After buying a few bottles, we asked if we could sit outside and eat our Cowgirl goodies and drink some of the wine we purchased. Sure, go ahead, make yourselves at home. So we went outside... Then Steve arrived. Steve is the winemaker and owner of the vineyard. I had never "sabered" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nory_c0k8Mk) a bottle of champagne before, but Justin R and M had been here before and had experienced this tradition, with Steve. I was to be the guinea pig. We "sabered" open the bottle we had bought, along with a 10-yr old Brut Steve decided needed to be opened. After opening the two bottles in unison, and sending the cork/glass flying towards some bus full of tourists, we found a picnic table and dug into our gluttonous picnic. I want this guy in my family. He sat down with us, and just started telling stories, about the beginning of the vineyard ("Shit, i planted some grapes thinking I could sell the land after a few years and move to Hawaii!"), following around the Dead, selling Jerry a dog and having him come back the next day in a limo to return it, drinking his first batch of Brut at his daughters wedding, and so on. His wife came out with a bottle of 1988 Cab, which we enjoyed w/ the bubbly and food as well. This just kept getting better and better. I don't think your next trip to Mondavi will involve opening bottles of champagne with swords, 19-yr old Cab (free), and kickin it w/ the winemaker. If you're lucky though, this is possible here. read more

It's the little vineyard that could! It's $5 for 5 tastes (waived if you buy a bottle), and you can pick which 5 from that day's open selections. They have a good selection of big reds, so I was a happy camper. The hostess was friendly and attentive in a mellow small-town way. She pointed out interesting facts about the wines I tasted, which I appreciated learning. Who knew there'd be such a striking difference in wines made from the same exact grapes, only picked 4 weeks apart? It's definitely worth a quick pop in. Don't arrive here expecting a vineyard you would find in Napa. The place is very simple and dare I say trailer park like. But man do they have some tasty wine. Started out with the Pinot which I would not recommend. It is a bit weak but they do grow all the grapes right on property. Skip right down the list to the 2000 Merlot. Yes I know what you are thinking...Merlot = table wine. Well this stuff blew my socks off! It was the most amazing Merlot I can remember having. Not sure how much is left but it is a reasonable $25 a bottle. Some of that to wash down the Pt. Reyes blue cheese they have for you to sample and buy. Just perfect. I regret not buying more of it. Let me know if you are heading up there so I can have you pick up several bottles for me. I'll share one with you if you do! read more

The wine here is decent, and the prices are reasonable, but here is why I am giving this a one star: I pulled over into this winery after surfing in area and headed up to my home state, Oregon, because this was an interesting looking place, and I enjoyed one glass of nine-year-old Syrah wine, and actually ended up buying two bottles of their 1999 Cabernet. That's the good part folks. Here's where I really have a problem with this place and the people who run it: In the 45 minutes that I was on their property, enjoying the sights, and sipping on that Syrah, petting their dog, being greeted with smiles, etc, I needed to work on some of my video shooting equipment which is contained in a couple cases I carry stabilizer, and other iPhone type Netflix shooting equipment (They have a nice large patio with umbrellas and seating and it is a great view. A nice place to sit down for 45 minutes enjoy glass of wine and re-organize my video equipment etc. As part of that chore, one of my favorite universal tools is a long knife. Let me remind you that in Oregon and California and in most states, it is legal to carry a long life, but only if it is external and not concealed. For this reason it's best to just strap it to your belt and let it hang on the side of your leg like everyone does In upstate California and Oregon especially in rural areas like this, it's not an uncommon sight. And it is legal. So during my pleasant 45 minutes visit and spending about $100 with these people, about 5 miles down the road after I left, I'm pulled over on the side checking my navigation what not and all the sudden the county sheriff pulls up behind me. Two more sheriffs later, three more CHP squad cars, about a half an hour goes by, and they finally released me after a field sobriety test, breathalyzer, etc: I was sober. One glass of wine. 45 minutes. They "somewhat" apologized and then I was finally back on my way after this embarrassing, scary, and strange event. In doing a little asking around, I discovered it was the winery that called the sheriff on me. They didn't say anything about a knife or anything negative to me while I was there. They simply waited until after I had bought their product, had a glass of wine, and then they called the sheriff on me after I left (still shaking my head; they seem like nice people). I don't know what you call it where you come from when someone does that to you, but I'm from Oregon and if someone did that to someone we would basically call them something which is the word that starts with A and ends in holes. Two-faced, back-stabbing, A.....holes. I gave the bottles of wine that I bought from them to a couple homeless people. I had no stomach to taste the wine from these low-lifes after that. read more

We saw this along Highway #1 as we were fetching our oysters and decided to stop in. Caveat: I'm only yelping the winery and not the Inn (yes, there's also an Inn there, although they are currently remodeling). Anyway, here's the deal: It costs $3.00/person to taste 5 different wines from their list of about 15 wines. If you buy something, then that tasting fee is waived. We tried one champaigne, one chardonnay, two reds, and one dessert wine. The environment is so-so, the wines are also so-so. Wines are relatively inexpensive (most are in the $20 range). I'm not a wine expert, but I've definitely had my fair share to know when the flavors are rich and complex. The dessert wine (white), however, was delicious. We bought 2 bottles. Overall, the experience was okay (wasn't blown away), and it's nice to support local businessowners. P.S. The restrooms here are extra clean (particularly when compared to the porta potties at the oyster farms!). read more

Ever been wine tasting and gotten the impression that if you were 20 years older and perhaps slightly more distinguished looking, you'd be getting more attention, more alcohol and better treatment in general? That's how I felt tasting here. Maybe if I had started throwing out terms like "bouquet" or "tannins" or dropped the phrase "this has a hint of white pepper at the finish," the experience would have been different. Instead what we got was friendly but slow and spotty service. Maybe people move slower the farther north you get? I'm not sure, but I kind of just wanted a boom boom boom type of tasting experience, and it was more like a blip here and a blop there. And the pours. My god, the pours. They were stingier than any pours I've ever seen. Literally about ten drops. read more

The sparkling wine was phenomenal and the Syrah too. We took home bottles of each which meant our tasting price was waved. We also took home some cheese by cowgirl creamery. Finally, an older lady came to assist. Very disappointing. Even though they will tell pets are welcome, they are not. There is a dog roaming the property who ran at my dog (yes, on a leash) and the owner complained saying it was after 5 pm (it was not) and he can do what he wants. Very bad experience all around. We stopped here to try some wines on our way up to Fort Ross. The wines were o.k. My wife and I liked their North Coast Sparkling wine and the Dessert Viognier. Other than that, the rest were underwhelming. Something to Know: The owner's policy is that no minors are allowed in the tasting room. However, there is nice patio where one of you can sit and entertain the kids while the other tastes the wine. Personally, I do not care either way about this policy, although I have never ran into it at another winery. read more

There is one winery in Point Reyes, and this is it. They had a surprisingly big selection of wines here. From sparkling to syrah, to cab, and many cabs I might add. The sparkling wines weren't bad at all. I did like the pinot noir, which was very light and easy to drink. The syrah is what I ended up buying. It was very smooth and fruit forward. The zin was good, but I have so many zins at home, so I opted to purchase something different. I even liked the cab that I tried. I can't remember which year I had, but the friendly woman behind the bar suggested it to me. The friendly woman behind the bar was the daughter or something. Boy, was she kooky. Super friendly and likable, but super kooky. She told us really irrelevant stories about herself. I thought it was amusing. read more

After having the experience in Crescent City where Trip Advisor said we booked a room and then we showed up and they were booked (apparently it happens often) - we decided to plan ahead for our second nights stay. We called Steve ahead of time to check for availability after finding him on Trip Advisor and luckily enough - we got a room AND they allow for one-nighters (which he said he's one of the only in the area who allows that!). My fiancé and I loved the location - it's a little bit away from downtown which makes for a nice, peaceful stay. We wish we could have stayed longer to check out the vineyard but we had to get on the road to head to a rehearsal in Los Gatos. Steve was very friendly and we definitely enjoyed the local cheese and pastries he offered in the morning! We hope to go back on our next trip down and hopefully stay a little longer - and at least check out the vineyard! read more

Super tiny little winery out in the middle of nowhere which few people seem to find...but so worth the stop. Just don't get too peppy on the road into Point Reyes or you'll blow right past this place and miss the opportunity to enjoy some very tasty estate-grown wines. read more

We were out exploring the ocast one weekend when we came upon this winery. Feeling adventurous after our cheese tasting we decided to stop in. They offered light body Italian style wines. I wasn't impressed with too many of their reds, but I did walk away with a bottle of Zin, champagne and dessert wine. The service was great and the setting was quaint. We tasted all 3 champagnes plus 5 wines from the list. We did 2 tastings, so samples a good chunk of the list. Enjoyed chatting with the ladies who work here. Some of the wines are very good (they also have some very strong ones!) and they have samples of local cheese. Some of the wines I was not quite a fan of, but I liked their cabernet, bubbles, and dessert wine best. I believe they said they specialized in Chardonnay and sparkling wine. The tasting room is quaint and definitely shows the owner's personality. It's just a bit odd that it is next to someone's home...you drive up and you can see their exercise equipment. A bit awkward...but I guess, aren't we all? Tasting fee can be applied toward a purchase. After a morning of plein air painting at Pierce Point Ranch, we decided to stop at the winery. We had our 2 small dogs with us, so checked into the tasting room to see if there was a space we could sit with our dogs and taste. The staff was very accommodating and sat us out on a side patio, the main patio was occupied by a group of women celebrating an event. We sat and enjoyed a number of their wines and found a few surprising gems. Our tasting fee was waived because we bought several bottles (6). We would definitely stop in again if we were in the area. This little Vineyard BB is situated in a very quaint piece of land. It is run by a couple name Steve and Sharon (S&S). You will not be sharing the house with them. You might have to share the house with other guests. We did and it was a very pleasant experience. S&S had breakfast ready for us both days. Cereal, eggs, cheese, milk, yogurt, pastries, juice, milk, coffee, tea. Don't worry, nothing goes to waste on this farm. They also have a propane grill if you decide to buy/bring your own food. overall, a solid experience! read more

This was literally the best wine I have found in wine country. The merlot 2005 and the Chardonnay are incredible! The atmosphere is nothing fancy so don't go if you're looking for that, but if you want to find delicious wine and a sweet and down to earth wine pourer who can give you insight into the best local oyster restaurants, don't pass this place up. A small, family-run place that is easy to drive right by on your way to the coast but definitely make sure you stop. They've also got a blue cheese that is delicious and perfect with the merlot! My boyfriend and I laughed because we spent a whole weekend in Sonoma then on a whim popped in here and found our favorite spot, a total gem. On my way back today! read more
