Dr. Paula and her staff are so incredibly nice. The staff was very calm, patient, listened well, and spoke clearly with very kind energy. Liberty was very helpful picking out glasses and explaining all the prices and items for my new glasses. The woman who did the intake, I believe her name was similar to Stephanie, I found her voice really sweet and she was very nice. Dr. Paula herself is very good at what she does, it's obvious from the way she moves, communicates, pays attention to detail and takes notes. She has a finesse about her that oozes wisdom and care. The office itself is extremely clean. They have everything sanitized between people and it is all clearly marked. There is hand sanitizer available. The office features some really great machines/technology that makes visiting the optometrist ultimately more comfortable. There is a retinal scan you can pay additional for to save from getting dilated which I did opt for and it was super easy. I'm thoroughly excited to visit here again to pick up my new glasses, which I'm also excited for since I haven't had glasses since 2014. In picking out glasses, i was able to select as many as I wanted to try and try them all on. Liberty asked if I needed help after she picked a few out preemptively for me, but I was all good trying on my selections. Which, sorry for how many I tried on, I didn't mean to make y'all sanitize so many I believe I did end up picking one of liberty's suggestions! I did try to find an optometrist closer to home in San Francisco but the science of getting your prescription exactly right when you're wearing progressive lens seem to be a challenge as these two other optometrists I tried out in SF did not get the science, so I returned to Point Richmond every year. I made an appointment here because it's in walking distance from where I live and a few neighbors had recommended it. I really lucked out this time. It's the best optometry experience I've ever had. The exam was very thorough and used up-to-date equipment. Dr Way took her time to answer questions and effectively address other concerns that previous Drs had just labeled as "dry eye". Liberty and Sidney are helpful, friendly and professional. They have a decent selection of frames. All in all, there is nothing missing or in need of improvement. read more

I moved to the East Bay and really needed to find an optometrist closer to home. I decided to try PRO because of the stellar Yelp reviews and my husband's recent positive first visit. From start to finish at my first appointment this morning, I felt well-taken care of. The staff was very accommodating and attentive and the equipment and facilities were modern, clean, and well-maintained. Dr. Yu was also very warm, knowledgeable, intuitive, and reassuring during my exam. I have a special eye condition that makes doing the tests to find the right prescription much more challenging. Dr. Yu found some solutions to help me through the testing and I walked away very happy with my prescription. I am so relieved and happy my husband and I were able to find PRO. GREAT STAFF!! AWESOME... PROFESSIONAL.... KNOWLEDGEABLE SERVICE. What threw me was a fee I had to pay that I wasn't made aware of and wasn't in any literature. They'll ask, "Do you want the machine, or eyedrops?" I pick the machine. Gotta be better right??... no recovery from the drops. What they didn't tell me, and was not in any literature that was givenme was that there is a fee of $49. I have really good insurance. I paid this last visit too but just didn't ask why. Now I know.... they hide the fee and ONLY explain that the machine won't leave you with side effects. We're a family of 4. All with glasses. Sneaky way of getting $196 bucks out of us for yearly checkups. Integrity is a value lacking in many industries today. Things are costly... very costly now. I would have liked to know I was being charged BEFORE the service so I had a genuine choice. How much does loosing a family of four take out of their pockets.... They'll soon find out. read more

I can't stress enough how much I love this business and the staff. I was tired of trying out several "chain" optometry businesses that lacked expected customer service. I always requested Essilor lens and was willing to pay the premium but the chains always "balked" at the request. These brand of lenses is all the Point Richmond Optometry offers and it's the best. All the staff including the optometrists are extremely friendly and customer service oriented. The selection of frames is also good and includes designer frames, including my favorite, Tom Ford! I love the way I'm treated when I'm visiting. I highly recommend Point Richmond Optometry. Also, watch out for their bi-annual frame sale. Buy one pair get one half price! It's amazing! read more

I have been going to Point Richmond Optometry for years and seeing both Dr. Asmus and Dr. Yu the entire time I've been a patient there. Both doctors and the entire staff have all been absolutely incredible to me, very courteous, prompt, friendly and thorough in helping me understand my diagnosis and treatment plans. I recently came in with an emergency appt for an allergic reaction that caused my eyes to swell up severely. Dr. Asmus squeezed me in and saw me day of, which was so awesome, since my own medical doctor said it would 4-5 days before I could get in to see her. Dr. Asmus evaluated me right away, prescribing me medication that relieved my symptoms within 24hrs. I am so grateful to Dr. Asmus for getting me in so quickly and for doing such a thorough exam to find out what was going on with my eyes. I am truly grateful for Dr. Asmus' bedside manner, her desire to fully understand what's going on to the point of almost being intrusive, but never offensive or disrespectful. She really strives to know her patients and to get a full picture of what's contributing to their condition. I am a Black woman and have never experienced any racism from Dr. Amus in all the years I've been going to Point Richmond Optometry. I am thankful that Dr. Asmus takes such care and concern for her patients, that she digs into the details to get a better understanding of whom her patients are and what contributing factors may play a role in whatever they might be experiencing. Dr. Paula Asmus is simply the best! After suffering for many years with astigmatism others had failed to correct, she prescribed glasses that perfectly resolved the problem. Several other optometrists' prescriptions actually distorted my vision: objects I knew were straight, like building roof lines, walls and door frames appeared curved. Not good for a person then in the building trades. I had to take my glasses off to see straight! Dr. Asmus, unlike the others, understands that the brain's interpretation or processing of vision is as important as the physical measurement of the eye. She continually seeks out the best and most advanced technology for getting accurate metrics, and her O.D. from UC Berkeley School of Optometry really sets her apart.
