This should be my favorite spot in Davis, but unfortunately the staff here leaves much to be desired. Tonight was my third time at Pokeworks and likely my last. I've had great sushi burritos in other cities but the Davis staff is undertrained and lacking customer service. They're always talking to each other, texting, running into each other, dropping things, paying no attention to the task at hand - it's chaos. Each time, the staff has joyfully slopped on more than one ingredient I didn't ask for or totally neglected to include some main ingredient even when you ask for it. The team always seems to be desperately but carelessly compensating for one very slow employee in the line by going as fast as possible, haphazardly messing up and fooling around all along the way. There is no technique, leaving massive lumps of various ingredients laying disorganized in a burrito or bowl. When the sushi roll is rolled, expect one or two bites of only meat, with most other ingredients slipping out. The lack of attention to detail on the front lines makes me greatly question the whole establishment, especially when raw meat is involved. It's never clear who is in charge (if anyone) but it is clear that no one was trained or hired with any care. Go here if you're happy eating whatever they end up throwing together; but be warned if you're interested in anything specific or a good customer experience. read more

I've tried Pokeworks twice and both times I've had a good experience. Overall, I think the food is pretty good with lots of different flavors and you have a lot of options to choose from. I've tried their spicy ahi tuna, salmon, scallops, and shrimp. For the most part, they tasted pretty fresh. Their teas are also refreshing. read more

Came here because I love poke bowls. What we got was a rude worker, his name was Wayne. He was the first person in the production line. He asked us what we wanted, and we all said a bowl with white rice. Once we got to the meat, he started scooping up tuna into my friends bowl. He never asked what meat she wanted, she wanted salmon. She said she wanted a large, and he put a regular sticker on her tray in the beginning without even asking. She corrected what she wanted and he said to her that she was being "disrespectful" and saying that he "asked her what she wanted." He, then, called over the cashier and exclaimed that he does not want to fix her food because she was "disrespecting him." Once the cashier came over, he said to my friend to "tell the truth" about the situation. The cashier then told him to go home but clearly he would not respect my friend and was being extremely rude. He was also chewing his gum with his mouth wide open. They should start hiring people who can respect their customers. That was unacceptable and we are not hard customers to please. We just wanted our food.... Hope I don't see him when I come back. UPDATE: Talked to the manager, he was very kind and accommodating. He also told us that Wayne was laid off. You can build your own sushi burrito or poke bowl and add things such as kale noodles, various sauces, edamame, seaweed salad, guacamole/avocado, sushi or brown rice, tuna, salmon, scallops, and various other toppings. Decent fresh fish but it can get pretty pricey with the extra toppings. You get two fair large scoops of tuna or salmon. The sauces, fried garlic toppings, and seaweed are included but other toppings arent. Overall experience is "meh", good to try once but probably won't be going back. read more

The worst service I've ever had. I love poke the food is fine however the customer service was so unbelievably awful. My boyfriend and I are not from the area and aren't familiar with there "step by step" process of putting together a bowl. My boyfriend asked for a topping and the server responded "dude that's after sauce you haven't even picked a sauce" as if we were to know or as if it matters at all. I am not a poke person but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed my quick bite to eat here. I had the wasabi scallops & shrimp bowl which was really good. The wasabi aioli was top-knotch. I like how you can choose light, mild or heavy for your sauces. My boyfriend built his own and really liked the ahi tuna and veggie concoction on top of a pile of white rice. I've been here at least 15 times and keep going back because the food is good. However, the service is so horrible that it's tarnished my opinion on this establishment. Even when there are two people in front of you, it takes 25 minutes to get through the line. The staff is slow and lacks positive customer service attitudes. We recently ordered ahead to avoid the line issue and our order was somehow missed so we still ending up waiting. It's clear that management doesn't care to properly train their employees. My first time coming to Pokeworks was also coincidentally my first time having poke, so while I have nothing to compare it against, I have quickly become a fan of this place. I do not even do take-out food that often, but I have since gone here a number of times throughout the last few weeks, after finding myself at work distractedly craving poke. There are so many options, but I would recommend trying one of the pre-designed bowls prior to creating your own- unless you are good at pairing food flavors- otherwise you might end up with the monstrous creation my overwhelmed boyfriend put together. Don't let that be your first experience! The staff also deserve some credit- they are super friendly and seem used to customers who are new to the whole poke-thing, so don't afraid to ask a lot of questions! And if you think you are in danger of developing an obsession like mine...make sure to grab one of their frequent buyer stamp cards. I don't actually know what you get when you complete one, but it makes you feel better about how many times you've been there...because you're working towards some important goal right?! read more

First experience and disappointed! Ordered online as I didn't know how busy they would be. App said 15-25 mins and so I arrived at the 25 min mark. Went to the register and the guy informed me that they hadn't even started making the order and it would be another 5-10 mins. There were only 3 people in line at the time. I watched a total of about 20 people order and leave before mine was ready. 38 mins total before it was ready. I was hoping they would redeem themselves with taste but no. Rude, swearing and insulting staff member. To be clear, this review is mostly about the service. Food was not bad. Oki poki is better, but the bowls seemed fresh and not bad. Big globs of rice without much flavor underneath the good stuff, but again, ok. The real issue was the staff member who got an attitude and was swearing at me. I ordered online for my family. Got there for order that was supposed to be ready at 6:30. By 6:50, I'm standing at the "pickup orders here" table. First time, so I was not clear if orders were put out or if I needed to ask, but assumed I should wait. For fifteen minutes, the person behind the counter kept making bowls, including for new walk in customers. The person in front of me asked him if they had an order there for him, staff guy shuffled some order tickets. I then looked at my email confirmation, asked if he had one there for me. He abruptly and sarcastically said "well it must be in here somewhere.". Then some something like "I'm not busting my balls here for nothing". I told him I was just asking and wasn't sure the protocol since I hadn't been there before. I tried to joke it off, saying the confirmation said to ask one of their friendly staff if I had any questions, and I was just trying to figure out if my order was ready. He mocked me, then swore a bunch and generally just acted like a jerk. Finally got my order, told him I would talk with his manager. He said he didn't give sh*t, and nodded to another person behind the counter and said "he's my manager.". That guy at first said something like "hey it's all good" but then did say he apologized. I said what about the other staff person, was he apologizing? The other guy said "f*ck no!". I looked at the manager who just shrugged his shoulders. I don't care about the delay. Things happen. I'm not going to complain because food is a little late or a restaurant is understaffed these days. But all I was doing was seeing if my order was ready and making sure I didn't need to let them know I was picking up. And what I got was attitude that escalated to preposterous insults and swearing. All the guy had to do was say something like he was sorry for the delay and they were working on my order. Just someone who should not be dealing with customers. Just ridiculous. And I gave a 20% tip online before I picked up, so couldn't change that. read more

Came here for grand opening. I really like the staff and the comfortable interior. They were super friendly and conversational throughout our time on the (long) line Now onto the food. The ingredients are all very fresh, and I was impressed with the selection of toppings and condiments. The only proteins I tried were ahi tuna and salmon. They had the same quality as average sushi restaurant's fish. Because of the buy one get one free deal, I tried both the poke bowl and poke burrito. - Bowl: Quite filling and you get to load it up with as many ingredients as you want (with exception to some items like extra fish or avocado which cost more) free of charge. These are very customizable and the combinations are endless. I don't think I'd enjoy the salad very much though because the sushi rice is that good. - Burrito: Tasty, but you don't get your money's worth like you do with the bowl. TLDR: *If there isn't a line*, this is a nice lunch spot with fresh ingredients, wide selection of options, generous portions, and friendly staff. read more

I was so excited for this, but was pretty disappointed overall. I like that you get lots of toppings free, and the salmon and scallops were pretty fresh. However, the rice was very mushy and over-vinegared. It was also really slow considering there were very few people in the restaurant -- like, if any other fast casual restaurant had that number of people, I would expect it to be an in and out order, but it was not. I had never been to a poke place before, and honestly I wasn't quire sure what poke was. I got a bowl with half sushi rice/half brown rice. From here I got tofu (which was super delicious), edamame, cucumbers, mangos, and orange slices. It was all beyond fresh!! To top it off, I got ginger, toasted rice puffs, and lotus chips. Wasn't a huge fan of the lotus chips, but that could just be me. For the dressing, I got the Spicy Ginger and it was perfect - not too spicy. I'm now a poke fan and will definitely return! read more
