I have used Coolway Mechanical for about five years now. I first got assigned to them through a…read morehome warranty company and they have been my service provider of choice ever since then. They have worked on my appliances and done extensive work on my heating and cooling systems in two different houses. Just last month two of their technicians went way over and above to make sure that I had air-conditioning when it was over 100° in Central Texas. James M. and William came to my house after a full day's work and then worked until after 10 o'clock at night to get my system fixed so that I could have air-conditioning for the next day. I give them the highest marks possible and will continue to use them and recommend them.

While spending almost 8 grand on a new AC is never fun, they made it a lot more bearable and easy…read more Our AC went out on a Friday night after the first full week of 105+ temperatures back in June. We waited until Monday to call because weekend service calls for anything like this are always astronomical. They showed up that same day! After seeing how hot it was in our house, they moved around clients that just needed regular servicing, to get our AC installed as soon as finally possible. They installed the new units on Wednesday and by Wednesday night, we were comfortable and cool again. The technician (who is one of the owners) and his helper were both super friendly and helpful and very caring. We've had a Freon leak in our system for years, which we just lived through by recharging the freon ever year, but once it was too bad this year, it was DONE. These guys helped us so fast and at a much more reasonable price that we had expected.

Be warned about slippery warranty coverage. My mother is older and was having issues with her HVAC…read more We bought a new and quite expensive HVAC from Barker's some two years ago. She also pays annually for the maintenance plan that supposedly comes with addition coverage benefits. My mom is on a very limited income and is still paying off the HVAC in monthly payments. One of the reasons we decided to go with a new HVAC rather than a repair was because we would be covered by the warranty and not have to spend any additional money for at least a number of years. Well, it turns out that's not the case. When they came out to check the HVAC yesterday, they determined that the compressor wasn't working correctly. It's working at too high a pressure and is putting a strain on our system. He recommended that we buy an adapter kit for $319 that would help the compressor work better and without it the compressor could go out, trigger breakers, and out a continued strain on the HVAC system. We asked about the warranty and basically they're blaming the manufacturer saying that "they" won't cover the replacement of the compressor unless it completely stops working all together, despite the fact that it is not working within the warranties coverage period. Barker's claims that they only cover the labor warranty and that there is nothing they can do. When I then asked if they were charging labor to install the adapter to fix the problem, they of course conceded that they are. This feels like a workaround for the warranty that we thought we purchased and away for Barker's to make additional money even though the HVAC they installed isn't working correctly. Basically, our HVAC is not working correctly but we need to spend more money to compensate for the gaps in warranty. A quick skim through the reviews shows a number of other reviews with warranty frustrations.

***BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE*** I first called barkers with an…read moreHVAC issue that cause causing my a/c to kick back on after it shut off. When the original tech first came. He spent a great deal of time making sure the refrigerant was full and "diagnosing" the issue. The tech told me that the kick back was caused by it being a little low on Freon and that since I had a smart thermostat that there was no temperature setting switch that would allow it to get a couple of degrees warmer before cutting back back on and that the "kick back" was normal. He even explained how he cut into my ducts to ensure they were clean (I later find out that that was completely unecessary and didn't need to be done). He explained they would come back in 30 days and they would know if there was a leak or not. I'll come back to this. About a week later. My hot water started acting up. So when I called in I let them know that the a/c is still doing what I originally called in for. I was told I had to wait until my 30 day follow up but they could get someone to come look at my water heater. I was told my brand new water heater was small and that I would be running into this issue a lot unless I upgraded to a tankless system which he was excited to give me a quote about. I didn't think that was correct so I did my own research. After finding out what the guy told me was complete BS. I called Barkers back and told them that there is still an issue with my a/c and my hot water. I was concerned about the kick back because it could damage the hvac system. I was told I still had to wait for my follow up (about a week out) but that someone could come back out to look at my water heater. The tech that came to look at my water heater explained how the last tech did little to no trouble shooting and fed me a bunch of crap that wasn't true. He explained how he reprimanded the other tech and apologized to me for the mis information. He mentioned that there was a valve that was bad causing the water heater not to heat the water. He had to call the manufacturer to trouble shoot the system to and they had to order the part. He went on to tell me that the part would be delivered in a day or two and the part was under warranty and I would only be responsible for labor. It's been at least two months and nothing. Now my hot water is out again. Now back to the a/c. The tech finally comes to trouble shoot my air conditioner. He revealed to me that there was a wire on the back of the thermostat that wasn't connected and that the thermostat was stealing power from the system causing it to shut off and kick back on. He went on to tell me my coils were a little dirty and instructed me to spread them off once a month in the summer. This confirms the previous tech did nothing but cut a hole in my BRAND NEW duct system, and fed me a bunch of bs. The tech mentioned that a $1,600 solar fan would be a help in my attic. I got a quote and even a follow up to get me to have the solar fan installed email before I got my water heater repaired. Imagine if my house caught fire or my entire hvac system shorted out by the mis diagnosis from these technicians? Now I'm stuck with a yearly membership that they made sure I had to pay in full to cancel with sub par service and no hot water. For the value of the membership it sounds worth it, but it doesn't align with their quality of work thus far. I feel sorry for the people without the membership that have to pay $85 for diagnosis each time they call a technician out. Especially when it's a minimum of two visits to resolve your issue. I am now hesitant to even have them follow up. I may just have another company perform the work and just eat the remainder of my membership. *Update 8/12/25 Day 3 of no hot water. The Lead Plumbing Supervisor Mark called me and apologized. Mysteriously a part that was only supposed to take a day was all of a sudden back ordered until the day he called me. He then told me he "confirmed" they had it and would drive to Brenham to get it. He positioned Monday or Tuesday for installation. I had to call back to get an update after not hearing anything. Then the dispatcher states the part will most definitely be in tomorrow. So now we are on day 3 of no hot water. Then I was going to have to wait until tomorrow after 5pm for the first subpar tech to come back out and work on my water heater after they lied and fed me crap about said water heater. I expressed my concerns about this technician coming back out to my house. I was not confident in allowing him to perform the repair. I am going to have another company perform the repair and inspect the "work" this company did in the first place.

They even let me pick and choose what I didn't want to do and what I wanted to add, without heavy pressure to go with their suggestion. I was really hoping this company would do something to fix the issue but I've given them 5 chances already and they either are unwilling to, or unable to. In June 2021 I decided to get a new AC unit and entirely new ductwork. It was extremely pricey and I also got the $600 parts and labor warranty that covers the "diag[nostic] fee during normal business hours [...] all parts and labor for 10 years. Just not any Freon that is needed for a repair." I pay a little over $12,000 for everything (which I later find out when protesting my property tax is much more expensive than normal according to the board, just a heads up to shop around). I would be okay with the higher price if it solved all my issues, but this was just the start of my problems. A little while later we notice the AC vent in the ceiling is dripping water onto the carpet and leaving a water stain in the ceiling. I call and they send someone out who looks around and just says everything is fine, to let everything dry out and call if it happens again. Well...it happens again, and we call and the second guy comes out and says the exact same thing, this time with a little dismissive attitude to be honest, like me and my husband are crazy despite the carpet being wet and the ceiling showing water stains. Each time the techs also inferred I would be charged, which I didn't appreciate as I mentioned I had the warranty, and while I wasn't billed in the end, I did not like guessing if it would be honored or not (which also, would have been a breach of warranty and contract under law, look up Texas Deceptive Practices Act). The third time this happened we just had the ceiling painted and I lost it when the allegedly "fine" AC started dripping water again, and directly texted the owner explaining that I was fed up. Well, he finally sends someone else over and they discover the pan to catch the condensate was too small and installed incorrectly...all this after multiple techs came and essentially gaslighted us saying everything was in fine working order. But I am leaving this review because now, nearly a year later since the tray was installed, the AC vent has started leaking yet again after we had the ceiling painted yet again on my own dime when really this should never had happened if they had installed the pan correctly. They send a tech and, you guessed it, they say the AC is in perfect condition, the drain line is not clogged, the pan is fine, etc. and simply say it is because I did not change the filter (which I actually did recently!). So, here I am with a puddle in my carpet and newly water-stained ceilings for the third time in 3 years since getting the new, overpriced, AC and ductwork. Oh, and apparently my warranty is no longer valid because I did not have a maintenance check from them within the last 6 months (my last was February 2023 and it is now September), which was not stated ANYWHERE on the piece of paper I was given that showed I had the warranty. I may or may not seek compensation for damages depending on the costs to repair the AC and the ceiling. I give them 2 stars because the owner is responsive and prior maintenance check techs were friendly, but when it comes to the cost, diagnosing issues, and quality work, I really can't recommend them after this saga.
