A few weeks ago I decided to try something different and totally out of my comfort zone. A friendly recommendation led me to Pole Position Dance Studio located in White Plains, just a few store fronts down from Mario's Pizza on Mamaroneck Avenue. For starters, the booking process was seamless. There were multiple packages to choose from, whether you just want to try out a class or fully commit. I also had no idea that they offered more than just pole! Some of their classes include Street Heels, Metamorphosis (which is a pole-less class; just straight dancing), and a stretch class! For transparency, I've never took a pole class in my life. While nervous going in, you can't help but immediately feel welcome. The owner of the studio, Taylor, was quick to greet me and the front desk girl, Jules, was as kind as could be! I can't even tell you how much fun I had at this class, and I wasn't even any good! Everyone in the class, not just the instructor, was so supportive and I quickly realized that this was more than just a class. It was a community. Yes, its for guys too! Better believe it. Pole Position has been a godsend to me in the month that I've attended. I'm now "part of the family" and am proud to be. Polling, as they call it, is not just a thing you do with friends for a birthday party or a one-off life experiment. It is a way of life. The staff are phenomenal, friendly and engaging; Taylor the owner is a teacher herself, and "polls the pole". I really can't say enough about the experience! Gave this place a try quite a few times & will more than likely not be back as I do not feel welcome here. I have visited multiple pole studios across the country & have never felt rushed or uncomfortable. I was on time, ended & cleaned my equipment early & was still rushed & told to put my clothes on across the hallway (other businesses are in this building). That is unreasonable, especially given the fact that I was timely & Laney "wasn't really watching the clock" (her exact quote). I am a very reserved and quiet person, but since this was the second time this occurred (this time while two other people walked in), I decided I needed to communicate my discomfort at the studio to Laney, & via email. I essentially was met with excuses & "our community may not be that place for you". As stated in the email, this is the only person I've experienced this with but it is not something that should ever be experienced. Overall, I enjoyed the class. This is my third time doing the intro class. I've done it twice before in the past few years. I got my own pole in the past. In fact, they would cap the class at a certain number to ensure everyone got their own pole. Now, it is 2 people to a pole (there's 7 or 8 poles). I don't know if this is the case for upper classes. The class is about 1 hr and 15-20min-- not the 1 hr advertised online. Class Breakdown -- 5-7 min: Introduce yourself 20-25 min: YOGA disguised as "stretching" 35-40 min: pole (you're sharing so you maybe spend 20 min each on the pole).... 5 min: freestyle/instructor shows their skills! Unfortunately, our main instructor didn't want to show her skills. The receptionist killed it though. 5 min: cool down The playlist was OK, but do I wanna pole dance to Bruno Mars' 24K Magic? No.... not really :( :( Anyways, I do recommend it if you're curious about pole dancing. read more

I love this studio. It's beautiful, spacious, clean , warm, and full of friendly instructors and students! The studio is very well-maintained; every time I visit this studio, there's a new addition: extra large yoga blocks, a new weight set, new "hooker heels" for sale, & encouraging messages on the office T.V.! The studio just keeps getting better, with new equipment, new classes, & new (awesome) instructors. They recently added fly gym, which is an amazing workout in addition to the pole dancing classes. I love their pole dancing classes-they're always so much fun and a great workout! Everyone gets their own pole, so you never have to share, which means you'll build your endurance and gain strength faster! I love all of the instructors here. They are all so caring and encouraging! Sometimes, I'm doubtful that I'm strong enough to execute a trick, but my instructor believes in me and with her detailed instructions, careful spotting, and inspiring words, I'm suddenly able to do the seemingly impossible. It might not happen on the first day I'm learning it, but I get closer with each attempt, and I always feel safe because I've been taught proper technique and my instructor is staying close to support me. The team here is super supportive, like a close family, one that you would love to be a part of. Melissa, the owner, is so friendly and super cool. She's always looking to make this studio a happier, more beautiful place. The instructors are amazing individuals. They are the strongest women you have ever met, and they demonstrate it with such grace, or in combination with some booty pops if that's your preference. If you're on the fence about trying out pole dancing, you should just go for it! You'll have a great time! Prior to buying tickets, my friend and I was so excited to take a class. This was our first time every doing something like this so of course we took a beginner friendly class. Upon arrival we were greeted by our instructor who instructed us to fill out a waiver for participation "cool" As we proceeded to the pole dance room we grabbed the pool we wanted. We started out with a warm up that was fairly easy. The instructor did some basic moves and wanted us to perform them. At that I was over it because the instructor was more attentive to those who got it faster than other. I felt there was no room to ask question. This studio is the best self care I can think of. I'm type A personality who's mind is always racing. Pole position classes are the only time the noise in my head stops and I just live in the moment. I leave feeling energized, happy and in the best head space. It's the equivalent of having meditated for an hour. The staff is uplifting, they're on your team and rooting for you in literally everything! I've taken about 10 classes now, I feel sexier, proud, strong, more self assured. I look forward to my classes. Between the pandemic and a very difficult personal year, these classes are rejuvenating and cathartic for me. They keep the classes small. There is a self health assessment questionnaire and temperature checks prior to entering class. They also clean and sanitise after every class. read more

SO much fun! OK, I am not a dancer by any stretch of the imagination, but I promised a friend I would try this with her because I'll try anything once. Although I was terrified I would embarrass myself, from the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed by the teacher who is just an awesome human being. She reassured me and made me feel good about whatever it was I could do during my first class. I managed to impress myself and do more than I expected. From the very first class, I was hooked. Taking the class on a whim, I fell in love with the spacious, clean, and warm environment provided by instructors and students a like. The place is not only amazing, but it makes me feel amazing. Things I cannot yet do, I am pushed to work towards. Always being reminded that it is "ok not to get things right off the bat." Melissa, the owner, is a sweetheart. She is very talented on the pole and off, but also very kind and patient. I ask a lot of question, especially when I'm uncertain and she takes them all in stride. Another thing that I love is that all of the instructors have different styles of teaching, and different ways of approaching exercises. This means that while the routine can be similar, it will never be exactly the same. With each class I take, the more excited I am to continue. Most times I would sigh up a week ahead since the class filled up quick, if I forgot I didn't always get a spot. She was very accommodating for our group of varying abilities and she made everyone feel beautiful. The space was clean and well taken care of, even the locker room. The studio had a really cool "Work" sign with cool lightening to set the ambience. Our group had an amazing time, and the bride was extremely satisfied with the experience since it was a surprise for her. Taylor even let us bring champagne and sweet treats to enjoy afterwards. This place is the bees' knees! Liz and Mila, the instructors are talented teachers and yogis, kind people and trustworthy spotters. The owner Melissa is wonderful as well, calling when a spot opens on the wait list and having a friendly and flexible business practice. Prices are very affordable, the music sets a great tone, and others in the class are phenomenally kind and supportive. I leave inspired and on an endorphin high every time. There is always something new to learn. \I would give 5 stars except for one minor thing: I wish the poles that are used for a different class could be raised up to the ceiling when not in use, folded like a beach umbrella stand or whatnot, because it can feel scary to be swinging from the aerial silks knowing there are poles in close proximity all over. read more

A terrific activity with expert and patient instruction. Our triathlon team was looking for a fun activity that included a bit of a workout. We scheduled a private party and took over the studio. Taylor, the owner and our instructor, led us through a warmup and then onto the poles. We learned to spin and climb and put together an athletic routine with sex appeal. We are not able to get a makeup class either. Unfortunately because of her attitude and their weird forfeiting late policy I don't recommend this place. I've been attending classes at Pole Position Dance & Fitness studio since it opened in 2013. My girlfriends and I have taken Pole, Barre, Fly Gym, and Flexibility with different instructors. I enjoy all these classes but my personal favorite is flex. Micaela walks around the class and helps you get into deeper stretches which has greatly increased my flexibility. Fly Gym with Mila is fun and challenging. Instructors always offer modifications for more challenging poses/ spins for students who are new or uncomfortable. I love the instructors and the after work classes that they offer. If you are looking for something new and challenging I would recommend giving this studio a try. So much fun!!! Decided to have an early birthday celebration here for my 23rd birthday and I had a great time. Invited a group of close friends and I know for a fact they loved it because everyone was asking me afterwards how do they sign up for a class here (I sent them the link to the website of course). The instructor was super funny, kind; had great patience and made the entire experience one I could never forget. We learned a short routine to a song of our choice, learned how to spin and climb the pole; which turned out to be surprisingly easy once you got that hang of it. The room was lit up with my favorite color pink (by coincidence) because of the big pink 'WORK' sign that was on the wall. It is like a workout cause it does require effort!, but it was sexy and fun all at the same time. I'm so glad I decided to have an event here, we even got to toast with a glass of champagne at the end of the event. I have only been to Pole Position once so far so I plan on editing this review once I have gone back a couple of times (hopefully to a five-star review). I give four stars at the moment for the following reasons: I am very impressed with the attention given to proper technique on the pole. I've been to other places where technique was not a focus so this was a very refreshing change. It's good to know that they care about your safety. I love that they offer so many interesting classes for both dance and fitness! I gotta be honest, it's actually too much to choose from, but in a good way. The owner is very friendly and welcoming. The reason I did not give it five stars follow: This place is pricey. That's not to say it isn't worth the money. I have yet to determine that. My sense is that it is worth the money but unfortunately it's just more money than I have. Downtown White Plains is a hell hole. The fine proprietors of Pole Position simply cannot help that. It isn't their fault. But the area is a hell hole, the building is a nightmare, though the studio itself is new and clean, and parking is the worst. It is also farther than I care to travel since I'm up north a bit but, again, this is not on them. I believe my instructor for my first class was Ana. She was very knowledgeable and taught the class at a good pace. I'd be happy to have her as an instructor again, though I did feel she was kind of phoning it in. Like she had just taught the same class 50 times in a row and was kinda over it. I can deal with that. I'm just sayin. So, again, after a couple more visits I hope to edit my review to a full five stars. I anticipate that they will wow me into not caring that I have to go to White Plains! read more

Great workout and fun! I have visited the studio twice, for a barre class - (my legs were nice and sore the next day) and for a chair dance class.... the chair dance was especially fun as you learn a mini routine and get to channel your inner goddess. Went for a girls gathering for my soon to be daughter's birthday and the instructor was extremely rude! There was no mention of needing to arrive early to complete paperwork, so we arrived at our scheduled time. From the onset we were greeted with an attitude and a growling dog. Not acceptable! Then we are rushed in to complete and sign a waiver that we weren't given enough time to read. We were then asked if we had shorts, which we weren't told we needed, and if we didn't we couldn't get on the pole. The "birthday girl" quickly went to buy shorts for us to wear. The remainder of the party went in to "warm up" and were asked if there was an extra person. We advised there was...the "birthday girl". We were told that the "birthday girl" would not be able to come in because she hadn't warmed up her shoulders and we could decide when she got there if we wanted to stay or leave. Well, when the "birthday girl" came, the instructor greeted her with "Happy Birthday, but you can't come in." How rude!!! Some of us were communicating about whether or not we were going to stay and another rude comment was made about us having a "pow wow". Once again just rude!!! Needless to say we left. read more

I have been taking classes at pole position for a few months and I couldn't be happier. I first started with Taylor (who also owns the studio) in her intro class and I was instantly hooked.
