We stayed in the Rainbow cottage and couldn't have asked for a more perfect atmosphere. Everything was super clean and welcoming, with all the standard amentities. They have a booklet with tons of information about the area and recommendations for food, sights, etc. After a long day traveling, the hot tubs were heaven sent. We soaked while listening to the birds and frogs at a perfect temperature. There are two tubs and both were exceptionally clean and fresh. They are private from each other and we used them almost every morning. I highly recommend walking along the steam vent trail. It's so peaceful and relaxing. There are tons of fruit trees that you can pick from on the grounds too. I just fell in love with this place and we are already planning a visit back to this gem of a retreat.

The steam vent trail is fascinating as are their steam heated soaking tubs. Fruit bearing trees of all types are ripe for the picking. The nearby town Pahoa is a rare delight on this island - more like Hanalei in Kauai or Paia in Maui or the North Shore of Oahu. The ocean front drive to Pohoiki is other worldly through mango tree covered roads and past the massive destruction of the 2018 volcanic eruption (very safe now). This place will rejuvenate your soul and a must see on any trip to the big Island.

We did not use the shared kitchen but everyone seemed to be really nice and friendly.

We ended up spending nearly all of our time at the sanctuary instead of exploring because their healing services were exactly what we needed. Dr. Rich was phenomenal! Combining medical expertise with a holistic approach to help us address some long-standing health issues. Tammy's bodywork and her deep understanding of frequency and energy work were absolutely essential to our experience. Anita's hydro cleansing session was nothing short of incredible, my wife actually regained her sense of smell for the first time since losing it after Covid and a stroke in 2021! And then there was Kelly, her food and fresh juices were out of this world! Every meal was nourishing and full of life. The entire staff radiated warmth, kindness, and a genuine passion for helping people heal. We didn't want to leave and are already planning our return trip. We had no warning whatsoever and the owners never reached out to tell us. We NEVER would have booked this if we knew the hot tub wasn't working. The owners did NOTHING to offer restitution for the problem. If you book be sure to check to make sure everything is working properly or you will be sadly disappointed on how they handle the problem!

Then in May the volcano starting erupting and the park closed and hearing about the air quality and earthquakes and potential explosions put a pall on our plans. Chris emailed us the entire time giving us updates and options and really just so responsive. We decided to go anyways and glad that we did. We reserved both rooms and really it felt like we were the home owners bc we had the place to ourselves. The rooms are beautiful and the landscaping amazing with beautiful orchids and plants everywhere. Each room has a fireplace that we used every night and again in the morning. We had so much food for snacks and breakfast and it was actually better than going somewhere they serve breakfast daily bc it was at our own pace. Since my in laws have dietary restrictions it was better to have cereal and instant oats and yogurt and fresh fruit and banana bread at our own leisure. Plenty of coffee and tea to make. I had planned on going to nearby cafe to get breakfast but it wasn't necessary. We ate out on the deck and had the it to ourselves and ate in pajamas and prolly made too much noise for chris and eric. I was full and ready for the day every morning before we headed out. Since the park was closed the location seemed silly at first but then when we came down to Hilo and up to Onomea Bay and then up to Waipio Valley I was glad to be up in Volcano. It was so hot and humid and oppressive but up in Volcano it was cool and misty and comfortable. Our hosts were gracious and attentive but not overbearing in any way. They were kind and we appreciated the time we got to spend with family there. I'd suggest staying here bc the weather is so much nicer up here and it's a neat place to get away from it all. If you're just going to rent one room get haiku which is in the back. More private. Bc the room is two walls of just windows surrounded by tropical vegetation. Pretty amazing. The metal roof made a perfect sound machine to fall asleep to. They provided ear plugs in case it's too noisy but we loved it all. Even the small earthquakes were mini adventures.

The cottage has two bedrooms, though they only rent to one couple at a time, a livingroom, large bath, kitchen and a dining area. It is surrounded by a lush tropical rain forest completely private from neighbors. It is decorated with such style that the name "Teapot" is perfect. Bill & Antoinette have thought of everything, from toiletries, entertainment, comfort, information about the area, breakfast items, and all the supplies you could possibly need. If you can't find something here, you really don't need it. I really can't say enough about Bill and Antoinette and their beautiful cottage. Can't wait to visit again!

I don't usually write reviews but see that existing ones could use an update. Nothing has changed since the previous reviews as far as the beautifully manicured grounds on 2-1/2 acres, the lush greenery and quiet stillness of the neighborhood setting, gracious hospitality of hosts, Bill and Antoinette, the generously well-stocked kitchen, amazing choices for breakfasts, the details such as umbrellas, flashlights and binoculars for hiking and volcano viewing. The hot tub is not available - but we weren't expecting one, anyway. All the 5-star reviews here are the real deal and every one of them describes the kind of experience I had here (except for the hot tub). If you are traveling with a party of 2 or less, this is the place to stay at in Volcano!

This is not a traditional B&B. It is a bad Airbnb, complete with chores, fines, and signage…read moreeverywhere.  It is the most unwelcoming place I've ever stayed, truly taking the host out of hospitality.  The only time I saw him was when he was when he was on his way out for errands, and he required that I pay the "cleaning and service fee" in cash or Venmo. Shady AF for a commercial establisment.  Considering the general lack of cleanliness and service, I have my suspicions. In fact, if you aren't timely enough with this shady fee buried in the extra details of your booking, he locks you out. That's right. He prints your name in large, bold letters, tapes it to the front door, and deactivates your front door code. So, if you can't figure out how to access the walls of text you get from this place that are somehow unfindable in the Expedia app, you can scan the QR code while you cool your heels on the porch of the place you've already paid hundreds to stay at.  You would think a place that is so concerned about guest security (cameras, fine for leaving the patio door unlocked, COVID so the host is completely absent) would not misuse guests' PII so grossly. The "breakfast" is a couple of sugary snacks fit only for the metabolism of a twelve year old.  You can cook your own breakfast, but be prepared to wash your own dishes, and by the way, the dishwasher is broken. The common area (where you make your own coffee in the communal drip pot) is monitored by camera. They make sure you know with unfriendly signage.  The bed was an old spring mattresses with an ancient foam topper. If you aren't of the age to eat the snacks, you probably won't sleep well, either. You get one over-stuffed pillow each, and if you are not eating the snacks, then you know why that's a problem.  You get one towel per guest, which never dries between showers, so get used to that wet towel feeling.  The rooms are spacious, yes. So spacious that you need glasses to see the tiny TV in the corner. And good luck reading the subtitles when you are afraid to turn up the volume for fear of being fined. In summary, stay somewhere else. Seriously.  If you have no other options, do try to read your multiple walls of texts carefully. They are accessible from an email with a link somewhere. They will tell you your door code and that contacting him after 9pm is a $50 fine. There is probably info about the jenky service fee in there somewhere, but I don't get very far into unformatted walls of text on my phone without going cross-eyed.  Be prepared for a long, potholed, gravel driveway.  He will not greet you at that door and help you get acclimated.
