There are good things. Very clean and good quality beds etc. Plus right next to national park. However, all the pictures showed a wonderful breakfast and setting. But NOT a good breakfast...even for basic needs. A McDonald's style sausage patty, some papia. They said we'd get some French toast but never got any. Then got half of a bagel with it. Small amount of papaya, coffee...that's it. So can't give more than 3 stars. Give a 3 because of how cute and clean it was. But I was interested in one of the many nice breakfasts shown/ indicated on their web page. Else it was very nice. read more

Good location with Volcano NP just down the road. We've stayed a couple of times here over the years with variable experiences. Communication with management can be a bit spotty. Rooms are nice and the verandas are wonderful - be aware the walls are thin - beds are comfortable, though on the softer side. Heat is via a space heater and this has come in handy for the drizzly damp days on this side of the island. The floors can get cold though since we observe the Hawaiian custom of taking shoes off in the house - so bring several pairs of socks! We did experience a day where hot water was limited. Just be aware this is a family business and not a big corporate hotel with all the bells and whistles. Aloha goes both ways. read more

Stayed 4 nights. All 5 bedrooms were exactly what we expected and exactly what we needed for our family event. Sue and Shirley took great care of us. Robert & Susan Hughs, Innkeepers (808-987-6499) have done a great job with their B & B property. They have thought of everything. The room was large, spick-n-span, and appointed quite nicely. The pancake, fruit, & cereal breakfast was very nice. The grounds are magnificent - walking around them or just viewing from the large patio outside your doorstep 9ois wonderful. Having said all of that, you are only 10 minutes from the entrance to The Volcanoes National Park. Enjoy! Charming little B&B just 5-10 minutes from the Volcanoes National Park. It's quirky and well run, but basically heavily modified trailers (portables). It was exactly what we were looking for our Volcanoes excursion. Excellent bang for the buck. The unit we stayed in was the Peacock Suite. It was decorated with peacocks, of course. There was a little table, mini fridge, and microwave. The faux "fireplace" was so cute and kept our room warm. The bathroom was very clean and there was a spacious changing area. The shower itself and the toilet area was super tiny, though. Bed was nice and had a heated blanket. There are "skylights" above, which are cleverly crafted out of corrugated clear plastic. There was no way to adjust the light coming through, which wasn't a problem for us, but some people might want to sleep in. The grounds are quite beautiful and we regret we didn't have time to explore. Parking is in a small lot and we never had trouble finding a spot. The breakfast was phenomenal! It's cooked by the owner. He makes amazing pancakes, which is quite a compliment because I make awesome pancakes. :) There is also fresh papaya, which is so much better than on the mainland. The coffee is hot and strong. Happy camper here! The main house also has a ton of useful traveler supplies such as bandaids, bug spray, and sunscreen. Highly recommended if you need a "base" in the Volcanoes area. read more

My partner and I spent three nights at Aloha Junction while visiting the national park. Robert was an excellent host - he made our late check in process smooth and we thoroughly enjoyed his breakfasts every morning! We stayed in the peacock room and had plenty of space, but know that the rooms aren't the most up to date. Bed was comfy and it had everything we needed, however. I especially enjoyed the outside deck we had access to. Communication with our hosts was great and access to the park was even better. Would highly recommend. read more

Prior to our arrival I had privately reached out to Robert about providing an arrangement of flowers for my wife in which he graciously agreed. Upon our arrival we were pleasantly greeted by Sue who welcomed us and showed us to our suite and directed my wife's attention to the arrangement of flowers Robert had waiting for her on the kitchenette table (Big Win!). The suite was clean and quiet and the accommodations by far exceeded our expectations. In the morning Robert greeted us and prepared us a wonderful meal for breakfast. If I could give 0 stars, I would. My husband and I stayed the night of 2/3/24. What an awful experience. We stayed in the PANIOLO suite. We are experienced with B&B's so were surprised by the very young children that were allowed to stay there. Baby screaming all night, little girl yelling, mom yelling at the kids, etc. All night. Walls are so paper thin that it seemed like they were in the room with us. There is no heat in the house and the temperatures dipped in the low 50's. No insulation so the inside temperature was the same. There was a tiny space heater that didn't work. Comforter with no duvet cover in closet. Didn't appear blankets are ever washed. We FROZE! So listening to the screaming next door and the frigid temps in the room, it was a horrible night. Next morning... where's the breakfast??? Where's the coffee??? Absolutely nothing. We found the Aloha B and B exactly as described. Certainly not a 5 star hotel but a charming, 1920s plantation house. The location can't be beat. Sure, I have a few suggestions to improve the place but for what we needed, the price we paid, and the breakfast we had it was well worth it. We had more than ample mac nut pancakes, sausages, and a papaya boat. Def would stay there again. read more

We loved staying at Aloha Junction! The rooms were bigger than I expected, it felt very private even though it's a B and B, our room (the Alpine Room) had a fridge, microwave, bathroom and balcony! The bed was huge and super warm, lots of extra blankets, and the fold out couch made it perfect for a family of 3. The site is beautiful, there are chickens and nene geese, and the owners are very nice and helpful! The breakfast is delicious, and the location is excellent. Highly recommend staying here when visiting Volcano! Robert was a wonderful host. The property is beautiful, and the B & B itself was so cute! Decorated retro Hawaiian, but updated in nice ways. The kitchen is available for use, and there was a nice communal area with some maps and books you could read. We stayed in the garden room, and it was lovely! Decorated very nicely, it was perfect. We had 2 beds, a sink, refrigerator, microwave, bathroom, shower, table and 2 chairs, and a wonderful deck to relax on outside. The breakfast was very good, some of the things we ate included French toast, hardboiled eggs, papaya with bananas, pork sausages, farm fresh scrambled eggs, and hash browns. There was also oatmeal, cereal, coffee, tea, yogurt, and fruit available as well. To drink we had a yummy fruit juice, I forget the name. It was super close to the national park, as well as within walking distance to some of the restaurants (I recommend the Thai food place if you're into that!). Perfect place to stay if you plan on visiting the eastern part of the island. As one of my fellow reviewers already mentioned, don't stay in Hilo, stay here. This place is about 3 miles from the volcano national park, so you spend no time traveling. It's a beautiful 4 bedroom 1925 plantation house that's converted to a b&b. The owner Robert lives in another accommodation right outside this one. It's also really cheap to put up here. We got the largest suite in the house with two joint rooms (one with a king and the other with two queens and a bathroom) for $150. This can actually accommodate 6 people!! The best part is that the rooms are located in different parts of the house with separate entrances to those parts. So although there is a full house most times, no one is in anybody else's way. Robert is a good host and is available if you need anything. The rooms were very cosy and clean. The whole place around and the house is so beautiful that you will love it here. There is a huge collection of guide books on Hawai'i inside the rooms and in the common area. You have free wifi and the speed is good. Robert also cooks breakfast for his guests every morning. We had requested for a vegan breakfast. Robert accommodated that and made us a good breakfast comprising fresh fruits, juice and hot eggless blueberry pancakes with macadamia nuts. He also gives you full access to the kitchen where you can make yourself milk, tea, hot chocolate etc. I will be living here for more than one night when I visit the island again. read more

Booking and payment was super simple on the website and we were greeted with a personalized sign on the rolm with our name on it! My husband and I had the good fortune to spend our last night of a 9 night Big Island trip at Aloha Junction. After 8 nights on a slab of a bed in an AirB&B condo in Kona, our night in the rain forest here was nirvana. After a warm welcome from Robert as soon as we drove up and a tour of the property, we were made to feel right at home. Complimentary water, popcorn, a lovely bed in the peacock suite, and a delicious breakfast cooked and served by gracious Erika was fabulous. Aloha Junction is in a perfect location outside the national park entrance and walking distance to a fabulous restaurant, Ohelo Cafe. Very nice bed and breakfast: room was clean and comfortable. The king size bed even had an electric blanket (we didn't need to use it). I didn't realize that the Big Island of Hawaii has multiple climate zones due to elevations. So, we turned on the electric heater which looks like a small fire place. The owner serves breakfast at 8 am and puts out a generous spread such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, toast, fresh guava with banana slices and fruity nectar in task flutes. The house was quiet. You take off your shoes upon entering. The owner had lots of tree ripened tangerines for those who wanted one. The house is well located to see such sites as the Jagger Museum, Volcano National park, South Point park, the lava flows, and Black Sand beach. It would serve well to bring not only swim suits and flip flops but a hooded jacket and sturdy shoes as well. read more

If you're on the east side of the Big Island, I cannot recommend Aloha Junction enough. My wife and I were staying in Kona but wanted to spend a day exploring Volcanoes National Park and take a trip down to watch the lava flow into the ocean at night (we went through Kalapana Cultural Tours)... we wanted to be able to take our time exploring and not have to drive back to Kona at 3 am. We are so glad we found Aloha Junction. The rooms were comfy and the guy that owns it recommended some things to do in the area. The location was absolutely perfect for hanging out and exploring the volcano. Breakfast in the morning was amazing (blueberry pancakes with macadamia nuts), fresh juice, and papaya filled with yogurt, topped with banana slices. read more

This is a B&B in Volcano. The host, Robert, runs a great B&B. He is friendly and helpful. We have stayed there on two different occassions and each time we were impressed. Robert renovated the B&B recently and expanded the rooms. He added insuite baths and generally created a very warm atmosphere. AJ is clean, roomy and most importantly an excellent value. The breakfast included fruits, juice, eggs (fresh), pancakes, tea or coffee (Puna). It was super. If you are considering a trip to see the volcano, AJ is about a mile from the National Park. Honestly, if I could give it another star I would but this thing only allows 5 stars. My family stayed here for 3 nights early in the summer. When we first drove up, I could only think "Oh my god I hope it isn't some creepy B&B where everything is dilapidated." Well hell's bells, it was PERFECT. It's roomy, it's OUTRAGEOUSLY clean (my mother, the neat freak who can't be satisfied, was so satisfied she wished our house were like that). Robert (the innkeeper) was friendly and welcoming, informative and wonderful overall. We were placed in the Alpine room and it was amazing. The Bedroom has double doors leading out onto the back patio with a gorgeous view of the lush, spacious yard. The rain made everything so fresh and relaxing, the weather was perfect! Cool and misty, I couldn't ask for more. The breakfasts were the best! They are always served with fresh eggs from Robert's chickens, the fruits fresh picked from his trees (papayas a MUST!) I've never been a fan of papayas until I tried these. If you're an animal lover, Robert's dogs are the sweetest things! read more

This is the first bed and breakfast I have ever stayed in. It was fantastic. :o) The location: One mile away from Volcano National Park at the end of a little (easy to miss) one lane driveway surrounded by beautiful, lush, green, foliage. The accommodations: Access to full kitchen with all the cookware, appliances, and dishes you care to use, living room with TV, DVD, and VCR complete with movies, games, and poker chips, a nook area with Hawaii maps and guidebooks, clean rooms with connected bathrooms, sinks, TV, and electric fireplaces, and most importantly, FREE WIFI. ;) The breakfast: Fresh papaya with banana slices and a lemon wedge (I can't stand the smell of papaya, but with a squeeze of lemon juice, it was gone and then so was the papaya ;D fresh eggs from Robert's chickens, and homemade blueberry macadamia nut pancakes with a myriad of syrups to choose from. Our host, Robert, was so nice and easygoing. He had a full house that night and didn't bat an eye at the number of pancakes he was going to flip the next day. =) He let my two children stay without charging us extra and held on to my camera for me when I left it there accidentally. I found this place on TripAdvisor.com and the reviews were perfectly matched to what other reviewers had mention. The Inn is conveniently close to to Volcano National Park & is in Volcano Village where restaurants and gas station is a block away. The owner Robert was very friendly and mention a lot of amenities that the inn provided such as Wifi, Television, Shared Kitchen, Water, Tea & Coffee, Fruit, Snacks like popcorn, Fireplace, Living room, Free Parking, Towels, and etc. This place is perfect just like you are at home. Please note that the shower is a bit outdated but not a big deal as you are only staying here for 1 or 2 days at most and plus this place is not a beach resort like Fairway Villa in Waikoloa as its a small bed and breakfast inn. Let's start with the good. This B&B is super close to Volcanoes National Park, only 2 minutes from the entrance. The bed was very comfortable and the included breakfast was slightly above average. Although on the second morning we did see the waffles being pulled out of the freezer and microwaved prior to being served to us. Here's the catch. DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU HAVE KIDS. Robert clearly dislikes children and would prefer that they not come stay - he should probably just make a rule that no kids are allowed because it would be better for everyone. Not only did he tell my well-behaved kids in a very rude tone "Don't break anything" when we first checked in, but we had a small incident our first night. Being tired one of our children slightly wet the floor pillow (futon) bed. We had set up an extra towel to protect the futon he was on and only the sheets got wet. Robert attempted to charge us $100 for a new futon even though it was not even wet...he indicated to us, that even if the futon did not need to be replaced, that $100 was the standard fee for any kind of additional cleaning. Robert said to me "you know, they (the kids) are supposed to be house-broken before you bring them out here". Classy. He also told me that if he finds that "the kid" peed on the floor at all he will charge us for carpet cleaning too. That won't happen, because I've protected the floor - but I laugh. Look at the pics of the condition of the carpet when we arrived. Now let me tell you about the mold we found all over our room...in the bathrooms (which also had a broken shower floor, "repaired" with outdoor fence lattice), on the walls and shower curtains of both bathrooms, and all over the mouthwash dispenser...gross. There was moisture all over this place - the salt in the shakers was sopping wet. There were several cracked skylight panels (one of which was repaired with packing tape). There was lots of pretty wood on the floors and walls of this aging home that had unfortunately destroyed by termites -see pics. The owners have some good things going for them in this older home, but maintenance and housekeeping are lacking. Hospitality and kid-friendliness are lacking big time as well. read more

This Bed and Breakfast is a great place to stay when you are visiting the Volcano National Park. The owners are so nice. The room had a refrigerator and microwave along with snacks, even though you can go into the living room part of the home and have snacks there. We stayed in the Peacock Room and it had was completely windows, with window coverings, and the view of the yard with the animals was very nice. The breakfast was good. It is very quiet at night and that's great for a good night's sleep after a big day at the park! read more

I was really looking forward to my stay here, and had chosen it for our group of five for our one night to visit to the National Park. When we arrived, we discovered the owners were out of town, and the maintenance man pointed us to our rooms. I had some issues that I wanted addressed, but all he kept saying was 'the owners are out of town'. I finally gave up, and asked what time breakfast was served, and he said 7:30AM, and that was the last we saw of him, or anyone else. I wasn't happy, but decided to focus on enjoying our day at the park, and the great breakfast we'd have the next morning that I'd read so much about. Hoo boy. First off, it turned out breakfast was at 8AM, not 7:30AM. The meal consisted of a little fresh fruit, sausage, and some of the worst pancakes I've ever had. They were dry, overcooked, and any fluffiness had been thoroughly beaten out of them. Not the delights described in the reviews I'd read. To top it off, the breakfast cook/attendant spent the majority of the time on her cell phone, so we all learned a lot more about her personal life than we needed to. Needless to say, we didn't linger. We packed up as quickly as possible, and went in search of breakfast. Don't get me wrong, I understand owners needing time off. I was in the hospitality business for many years, everything from full service hotels, to inns and B&B's. But someone should be left on site that, at a minimum, knows what time breakfast is, and ideally, can deal with guest issues and questions. The positives, and there are many: the property is very clean, the grounds are lovely, the living room area is charming, and you can't beat the location. I do believe the inn has a lot of potential, and really wish our stay had been what I was expecting. I'm giving this 3 instead of 2 stars because I'd like to hope that if we'd been at a time when the owners were on site, our stay would have been a much better experience. read more

Those pancakes were awesome! I bought macadamia nut pieces t make some but wondered if there was another secret ingredient in them such as vanilla? The rooms are large and the porches are nice to have also. I wish we had more the there. "Beautiful, peaceful, special!" We only had one night to stay in this lovely inn nestled in a rain forest, and off the beaten path, in Volcano. And that, is my only regret. I wanted days to linger in the glass enclosed dining porch, or the comfy, tastefully decorated living room complete with fireplace. Robert the owner, and his wife, have attended to every comfort one could desire. But the VERY best part of all, was that huge blue and cream bedroom with pillow top king bed, the softest linens imaginable, and walls of windows looking out on the lush Hawaiian landscape. After hiking hours in the heat, wind and sun, we showered and went down for a nap listening the soft rain beginning to fall outdoors. If you think this sounds like heaven, you'd be close. Breakfast the next morning was just fantastic, papaya with bananas, juice, waffles and super tasting sausage! Wish time permitted for at least two more days here!
