One of my favorite spots in JP for my pup. Whenever we walk by, my dog always pulls to get inside. The shop is incredibly clean, well-organized, and priced well. They make it easy to find what you're looking for, and they carry tons of different food brands. They're very community-oriented which is fantastic. What makes this location stand out is how helpful and kind the employees are. They always welcome us in with a smile, they frequently offer a free treat or two to my dog, and are super helpful overall. This is a great little shop for dog & cat owners alike! A friend got our chow chow Kiki one of their cakes + some other treats for her birthday last year and she loved it. I visited with another friend yesterday and had a great experience. They have a great selection of toys, collars, treats, etc. including bins of loose treats where you can fill a bag up! The workers are extremely kind and even got our shy Kiki to take some treats from their hands. My friend was able to get some cat toys too. I posted this exact review on Google but wanted to post it here as well: I LOVE this place! They have a great selection and the staff is always friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I've been getting treats and food here for a few years but my recent experience spurred me to write this five star review. My dog has recently had some health issues and I ended up having to put him on a prescription diet. We ran out of food last week and the vet was out of it as well (damn supply chain!). We tried giving him some of the food he enjoyed before but it was clearly messing with his stomach so I wasn't sure what to do. I went into Polkadog, told the person at the front desk my story, and they did some research and found a food they sold that had the same ingredients. It worked great! My dog was once again full and happy! After a week he finished the small test bag I bought so I called in to see if they had something larger. The person who answered the phone knew exactly what I was asking for (even though I did a poor job of describing it) and even talked to me about the different options to make sure I was getting the right thing. Not only did they have it in stock but it was half the price of the prescription stuff I was feeding him before! I can't say enough good things about this place! If management is reading this (I really wish I remembered these employees' names!) the person with a ponytail working on 1/20 around 4:30pm and the thin, dark-haired person working the evening of 1/10 or 1/11 deserve raises! read more

My pup lives for their Chicken Bits, Wonder Nuggets, and Clam Chowda sticks- and they have a great selection of other doggie items too, from food to toys to dental care to leashes to bully sticks to a million different kinds of bones and chews and beyond. The staff is always really nice and gives pups a treat whenever they're in- it's a very welcoming environment and I always end up getting way more than I came in for (and things aren't cheap here, although totally worth the quality and care, especially for a local company). This is the cutest little store! Dogs can of course walk in as well and my dog was offered several treats and had a fun time sniffing around! The treats are very fancy looking but clean ingredients and still affordable. Once section of the store has every long lasting chew for dogs you can imagine from bones to cheese to sweet potatoes. I ended up getting a beef cheek for my dog at the recommendation of the woman at the counter and it was a great decision. Excited to shop here again for my dogs birthday! read more

This place looks like a candy store, but for dogs. They got toys, treats for days, kibbles and even mundane stuff like the leashes and doggy bags. I was even more impressed with the variety of bones they had (eg: cow femur bone, which won my heart instantly) The young woman at the register was nice enough to answer a few questions about training, vets in the area and bone recommendations for a big playful girl that doesn't even belong to me! My dog, Gus, loves Polka Dog. He loves the beef and chicken bits. He loves these crunchy duck things. He loves the queso treats. He loves the girls behind the counter that aren't afraid of him just because he's a pitbull. He loves all the fabulous toys he's gotten from there. And he even loves the sporty dog coat we picked him a few weeks ago when we had day after day of torrential downpour. Luckily for Gus, I enjoy spoiling my animals. And Polka Dog does a damn fine job of feeding my spoiling habit. I don't think I can walk in the store without coming out with something new for the kitties or dog. There are just so many pluses about this place: it's awesome; the people are super friendly and nice; they actually charge less for my dog food here than at Skiptons; I get to support a local business; and I get to buy high quality food and accroutrement for my pets- all within walking distance of my house. Been coming to this location for a number of years, today unfortunately the "current staff person" (who I've encountered before) was "incredibly rude and disrespectful" at the end of my purchases...stating on handing me the bag snidely "Just so you know, don't touch anything in this store if you don't have any intention on buying it in the future", really? She repeated it twice to me when I said "What?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing "after purchasing" items in this store during these unprecedented times. So this is the new "Customer Services" for Polkadog to any long standing customer just walking out the door? Then make a big sign and post it visually for all to see and read if Staff is "choosing not to help a client" with any assistance. Granted there's a new normal with "Covid-19/Pandemic" it's understood and I'm clearly not stupid. However, having a Staff person sending that parting message is a very ignorant way to kill and not welcome any further business from me or anyone going forward in JP...I'll gladly take my business elsewhere with that flippant attitude with our hard earned money. As a rule I've gone out of my way to support local businesses anytime out of the year. If I were to continue with Polkadog for our dog's treats...they're customer friendly at Seaport. read more

Polka Dog bakery is the best pet supply store in Boston for so many reasons. I have been a customer at the South End store for years. I however like the new JP store better. I think it is beautiful inside. I love the layout. 1. The owner of the store is a local guy. 2. The baked goods are all made locally as in right here in the city of Boston! 3. The store carries many varieties of high end dog and cat foods. 4. The staff are knowledgeable, kind and accommodating. Apparently the JP community has more cat owners than the South End community so they said they would stock more cat things. 5. They carry fun pet accessories and a HUGE variety of treats. 6. They support local rescue causes with fund raisers. I could go on. I only have good things to say about this fantastic local business. read more

This place makes you want to be a dog. Flanking all sides of the center island are treats upon treats showcased as if they are gourmet food. I'd be interested to hear how many treats they lose a day to a dog that just can't resist waiting till their owner buys it for them. I went in with a very well trained dog and even she had a hard time resisting the urge to chomp into one of the many dog bones and treats lying around at the perfect dog height. I LOVE this boutique shop for my dog. The treats are unique and when he still had teeth I would go in regularly to get him the fish skins (which he adored). Now he has no teeth and many allergies, so I walk sadly by and occasionally go for gifts for other people's pets. They have nice leashes and other accessories as well. My dog has a cute harness from PolkaDog that always get compliments! The staff are also helpful. read more

I have walked by Polka Dog several times since I live around the corner, but i have a cat so i have never stopped in. Decided to give it a go since i was out of food to see if they carried any cat supplies, which they do. The girl was very helpful since they didn't carry the brand i had been feeding my cat (Natural Choice) to help me select another grain free brand they carry. I love Polka Dog Bakery treats and their stock and variety of dog food. (We rely on Taste of the Wild canned & kibble.) Dried Cod Skins, Wonder Nuggets, and Sfizi are favorite treats for my picky pup. One thing I wish they did better is stocking accessories (coats, harnesses, &c.) for medium and larger breeds. They really seem to only cater to small and miniature dogs in this regard, which is always disappointing. My dog is only 53 lbs, with a long, hound body, and we rarely find suitable sizes at this store. Otherwise, it's great and I always get wonderful, friendly service from the staff. read more

New to the neighborhood and stopped by here. We're big animal lovers, and it seemed amazing to have a wonderful local spot where we could buy treats for our pets, 2 scrappy rescue cats and our big goofy Goldendoodle. Here's the thing: I think the store itself is awesome. Sure, the food is more expensive, but you're supporting a local business, so I don't quibble about that. However, the young woman working the cash register did NOT greet us OR our dog--not once. Not even when we picked up a tasty treat (a duck stick) and paid for it at the register. Now, we don't expect people to fawn all over our dog everywhere we go--we don't think we're that special--but it's a pet store! Whenever we take our boy into ultra-corporate PETCO or Petsmart, he gets treats, head pats, and just a general sense that the people there actually do like animals. We even exclaimed happily over the shop stock within earshot, and the clerk simply refused to interact with us. Whomp whomp. It was just such a cold, unwelcoming, and downright odd experience. Our pup was well-behaved and calm the entire time--it's not like we gave her any reason to snub us. I'll give it another go, but the initial excitement I felt at having this spot within walking distance has definitely dwindled. read more

This is a pretty limited review since I don't have a dog... but I still like this place. All of the treats are fun to look at and there are lots of excited dogs coming in all the time. The store is nice looking, clean, and the staff is friendly. They carry 'World's Best Cat Litter' which is surprisingly hard to find around here. I wouldn't mind a few more cat toys-- the section in the back is pretty small and basic-- but I guess they know their focus. read more
