I had been looking for a trustworthy and good groomer for my little anxious Shih Tzu for months. I wanted a place with a groomer that I could trust, in an environment that's not too overwhelming for my already anxious dog. I was so happy with the job that Melissa did. Really fantastic. I dropped him off first thing in the morning and he was ready within an hour which was perfect. I tried Dog Bulter in the past but after 4 hours they called me to say that my dog is being aggressive. That was news to me, but it turned out that they had 25 other dogs roaming around at the same time. That explained the behavior. They were nice but not suitable for my dog. So I'm happy that I can take my dog to D'tails where the grooming is done more on a one on one basis. I found it a little too pricy but my dog seemd to had a better experience so I'm ok with that. read more

Took my senior pup to D'Tails for grooming and had an amazing experience! The groomer, David, was very patient and careful with my dogs ailments. He knew exactly what kind of cut would suit my dog best and got her looking cuter than she already was. The pricing was also very fair! Especially for Boston. D'Tails is an adorable little pet boutique- this review is for the location on Berkeley street. My small senior mutt comes to D'Tails for daycare during the week between 2 and 8 times per month. Originally, I selected them because of their convenient (for me) location, but I've become loyal to them for many other reasons. Let's go with three: 1. Flexibility. Daycare hours are pretty extensive (check their website for the most up to date information) - right now they are 7am-7pm. I usually find that the store is staffed before 7am, even. I like the flexibility of being able to drop in as needed and pick her up whenever is convenient for me on any given day. The cost of daycare (and any other purchases I make (just go right to my card on file. Easy! 2. Communication. Every day that I send my pup to daycare, I get text updates about what she's been up to, whether or not her potty break was "productive," and something nice like "have a great day!" 3. Kindness. After only a few visits, the staff quickly remembered my dog's name and they always welcome her (and me!) when I drop her off. I know that my dog is not without her quirks, but I've never heard anything but praise and love for her from the staff at D'Tails, which is just so sweet. They're all true animal lovers there who treat pets with compassion and pet owners with kindness. They are also a business that is very clear about their inclusivity- specifically very LGBTQ friendly. You can't put a price tag on all of that, but theirs is very reasonable! Again, check the website for the most up to date information but right now Daycare is $21-$36/day depending on the length of your pup's stay. Downstairs in the daycare space, there seems to be a setup for every type of dog. Crates for pups who like a comfy den-style nap, soft beds for rests, chairs for pups who want a great view of the rest, and floor space for playing. I also know that the staff is more than willing to cuddle with or hold your dog if that's what pup wants... like mine often does! The only constructive thing I could offer is that it does look pretty dingy down there, but I mean... it's a play room for dogs and it serves its purpose well! There are also lots of treats and goodies and adorable sweaters in the shop upstairs. Can't go wrong! I know that they also offer walking and grooming but I've not used those services. It feels so good to have a group of people- from Dawn the owner to the wonderful staff like Rachel, Kendra, Christiana, Mary and more - who I can trust to care for my beloved little mutt! read more

Upon discussing this with the groomer she is nothing but downright rude and unapologetic. The owner, Dawn, is a gem and made my situation right by offering a full refund. This review is for the groomer. In anticipation of the coming heat wave we brought our long-haired dog in for a haircut. We made the appointment in person with our dog along and no mention was made that there might be any issue. Then, when we brought him in for the clip, they said that, since he had never had a haircut before they would see how it went, but it might take once to acclimate him to the equipment before really giving him a clip. On pickup they said he was fine with the clippers but didn't love the scissors so they only did a little trim. Disappointing, but fine (also disappointing to be charged for a full clip, but ok because we were forewarned and agreed to it). We brought him back today and he was returned, 3 hours later, having only been given a bath that he didn't need. No one suggested in advance that he wouldn't be clipped. No one asked if we wanted him bathed. And again, we were charged for a full clip and told to try again in a month and they would see if they could clip him. We will not be going back. read more

i took my dog Izzie in to be groomed. She has medium long hair that does tangle behind the legs, on her belly, and behind her ears. The groomer called to ask if it's ok to shave those areas, I said yes please but do not give her a lion cut (i.e., dont shave her body only leaving hair on her head). When I saw the result, I was annoyed because she ended up totally shaved with hair around her head.... honestly, I'm not actually mad (it's just hair) but when I talked to the manager they were so cold, dismissive and unapologetic. read more

Susan is the BEST groomer! She takes such good care of my dog, keeps great notes so his cut is always consistent, and you can just tell she loves her doggie clients! Not only does she also do a great job getting all the loose hair, she works her magic on making Rusty's teeth sparkle. :) Highly recommended! They did nails, a great yorkie cut, AND teeth brushing all for just 70 dollars (I have been to places that do upwards of 90 for all this). they also did wash/dry and would have done a day care service until 6pm EST if we needed it. very happy we stopped here and unlike other places they were not Natzis about needing to have vaccinations on record for the last like, 50 yrs. It really pains me to write this review as my dog has been groomed here since she was a puppy. Today I went in for our routine grooming, and noticed our usual past price written on the whiteboard outside of the grooming room. When I went to pick my dog up, I was given a price that was 50% higher than I'm usually charged. I asked the front girl why it was higher, and she went back to ask the groomer. The groomer replied, not knowing I was in the store, "just say it's for serious de-matting. He lives in back bay; he's rich; it's fine." Needless to say this left a bit of a sour taste, especially because I recently actually moved out of the city. The groomer came out to explain "it's your dogs fur - it's dense, curly, and thick - the hardest to work with." I was just confused because I always come to D'tails, bimonthly too. When i got home 30 minutes later, I noticed blood all over my floors and couch -- two of my dog's paws were actively bleeding. I promptly call the store, and the girl checks with the groomer. She quickly comes back to say that it's probably just her nails from being cut and that it should stop soon with no special precautions. Unfortunately, I think I might have to find a new groomer, as I'm no longer convinced it's worth making it into town for my dog's first and only groomer thus far. read more

We've been taking our dog here for over a year for daycare. Our dog is very shy and doesn't love strangers. We first tried walking services but she wouldn't have it. After a few weeks of trying we switched to daycare. Dawn and her team have been so patient and flexible with our dog and us! Now she loves daycare and has gets excited at drop off. We have been so happy with D'Tails and have been using them since since our whoodle was a puppy. All walkers are kind and courteous - and try to never wake our baby when coming and going! They are so sweet and give us great updates and photos. Harry looks forward to his walks every day. Susan has been our groomer from the beginning too and we couldn't be happier - she is so patient and kind. She always reaches out to make sure we are on the same page for type of cut, how short, etc. She has so much patience! UPDATE: After I posted this original ad, I received a call from Susans personal cell. It was disturbing that she was calling and not her manager. She started yelling at me and saying that she did not appreciate this review. I told her I would post it again and again. The things that happened there were unprofessional and unsafe. The calling and yelling at me on my personal phone is even worse. I asked where the manager was and she said standing right behind me and I asked to speak to her and she said she's on vacation. Susan is an unprofessional liar. I cannot believe she called to yell and insult me. She did not even try to apologize. I should consider calling Animal Control (tying a rope around a dog's mouth has to be animal abuse) and the Better Business Bureau at this point because of the way they're sharing my phone # and allowing Susan to call me yelling. Now, I'm really leaving this up. I took Lucky to be groomed this morning. I felt okay about it considering Lucky had met this groomer a month prior. We went to the grooming shop (that month prior) and spoke to Susan about his fear-aggression. She showed me exactly what she would do and promised she didn't have a single concern about grooming him. On the day of the appt., I showed up 45 mins early so that I could give Lucky time to calm down in a crate. Susan came out once I arrived with a flat rope. I thought she was going to use it as a leash during the grooming since that's typical. No, she asked me to tie it around his mouth as a muzzle. I was shocked and admitted that I wasn't the most comfortable with tying a rope around my fearful dogs mouth and nose area. I asked her if she had a proper muzzle and she mentioned that she had a couple, but that it would be quick and I should just tie the rope on him since she couldn't. I was so uncomfortable. I finally asked her if she wanted me to take him home instead and she said yes and began to exclaim that she was beyond nervous to give him his bath without the rope being tied around his mouth. Education time: A rope around a dog's mouth is NEVER safe for the dog or the handler. A rope could be tied too tightly. It could slip loose. He could open his mouth and bite if not tied tight enough. It's not a proper or safe tool. So, that's why I trained my dog to wear a proper cage muzzle and cloth muzzle. Either would've sufficed. Susan refused to show me a proper muzzle or allow me to put one on. I'm shocked that they're still in business considering how unprofessional they are. They take months to book with and tie ropes around their scared dogs mouths. A ROPE. I called afterward to speak to an owner because I was concerned about the safety of the dogs there. I was told to call at some other point in the week. Wild. Couldn't even communicate the proper time to call back to discuss what happened. So unprofessional and unsafe. Through adopting Lucky (pretty fearful rescue), I've learned so much about properly handling a dog. I've never heard of a dog professional who would suggest a rope. The woman really wasted so much of my time. I waited 6 weeks for this appointment to be turned away. She laughed when I told her I couldn't leave a rope on him all day and suggested it would be quick. Disgusting. Ropes don't belong over dogs mouths and noses. read more

We take our puppy here for doggie daycare and they do a great job! The dogs get to play with each other all day in the basement (which I have never seen). My dog loves coming here twice a week and the next day she is always exhausted. It's a good way to socialize your dog and get him/her out of the house a few times a week. read more

This place is great - very warm and welcoming staff! Lots of supplies and random fun things for your furry friends. But for us the absolute best part of the store is Sue, the groomer. She treats our senior 11-yr old Brussels Griffon with so much care and love. We've been going to her for close to four years now, and she has yet to let us down. Always gives our lil guy a good, clean and cute cut and updates us the minute he's ready to be picked up which is awesome. She also has such a nice warm personality to boot! I am extremely disappointed in the D'Tails grooming service and I am writing this review as a warning to other pet owners. We have had our dog groomed there on a number of occasions and twice he returned with a small nick on his leg. This was minor and we understand this can happen. However, after his last time we noticed he kept licking at his back. On closer inspection (his hair is very long so his skin is not usually visible) we realized he had a 2 inch cut on his back. We took him to the vet who shaved the area and revealed this 2 inch cut and 2 other smaller cuts beside it. This resulted in our dog being coned and put on antibiotics for 10 days. I am unbelievably upset about this not only because of the suffering it caused my dog but because the groomer DID NOT mention this to us. The cuts were so large that it would have been impossible for her not to notice them while she was grooming the dog, and I am sure he must have been in obvious pain when it happened. This is truly appalling service. I will not return. read more

Just picked my 2 papillons up and tipped them well. Realized my dogs paw was profusely bleeding. She cut the nails so short even with white nails. She also cut his pad. My dog is easy to manage. We use D'Tails for day care for our border terrier. We shopped around, and are really pleased that we ended up using D'Tails. They collect him from the apartment each morning, and drop him off every afternoon tired and happy. His excitement when they arrive in the morning is testament to how much fun he has there! They keep a set of keys so can let themselves in and out when we're not there, and they can set up a card on account so that payment is taken care of automatically, so it's all really convenient. I love that we get a little text each morning when they pick him up so that we know he's being looked after. And we get a text at the end of the day telling us that he's been dropped off, and if he's done his business on the walk home (that's probably bordering on TMI, but I guess it's good information to have!). All in all, we're very happy with the service. Thoroughly recommend! read more

I am very disappointed with the grooming service. The groomer came highly recommended by friends, so we took our four month old puppy with high expectations. We were extremely disappointed with the hair cut - our picturesque goldendoodle looked more like Alf than a puppy - and the cut itself was extremely uneven and choppy. A month later and it still looks really bad. What's worse, is that it was not until we saw a bloody paw print leaving the boutique that we knew he had also been nicked! (Why the groomer didn't tell us is beyond me!?) While the boutique is well stocked and the staff seems nice, we will not be going back for grooming. RECOMMENDATIONS WELCOME! read more

I adore this place... If they offered "frequent flyer" points I would probably be at the top level... In other words, I stop in more than I'd like to admit. They have a wide variety of excellent quality dog food brands (no junk food brands!), super tasty dog treats that my pups L-O-V-E and tons of helpful, fun and / or otherwise necessary dog accessories. Dawn, the owner (at least I think that's her name) is SO nice, and I have yet to meet an unfriendly or unhelpful employee. Dawn's two dogs are so sweet, too. You will find them lounging in their custom dog beds in the store window (be prepared, they are so adorable and docile you may think they are stuffed dogs at first, only to be super surprised when they start moving.... Ahem, not that that happened to me or anything.) D'Tails offers daycare and grooming services too! I, sadly, have yet to take advantage of them - but that's my fault for having a hectic schedule and not planning ahead. I plan to get in on the daycare option ASAP! Like I said, I love this place... Anyone who has seen any of my recent bank statements will attest. And, lucky me! It's walking distance from my home! I'm so disappointed with my 4.5 month old puppy cut. The place was very dirty - food, alcohol, garbage everywhere (likely because of the Pride Parade the day before so I didn't jump to conclusions, but cases of beer and bottles of alcohol with piles of trash seemed quite unprofessional). Anyways, regarding the cut, I specifically asked not to have my doodle shaved short and I was brushing him every single day to keep his coat smooth and untangled. The groomer even commented on how well I kept it. Needless to say, I was almost in tears when picking him up. His face was cut close to his skin and the entire haircut looks uneven and short. This is not how a 4.5 month old puppy should be trimmed. He doesn't even look like a puppy anymore. I will not go back. read more

We had a grooming appointment today with their new groomer, Aris, and she was great. We just adopted a new dog (our other dog has been going to D'Tails daycare for years), and he was a stray his whole life and probably had never had a bath before... needless to say, he was filthy. Aris listened to all my concerns and requests about his special needs (he's recovering from some skin issues), and even provided some advice on how to help. He came back SPARKLING and I am so happy with the results! I've actually never used a professional groomer before but I am very happy with my first experience.
