They are super accommodating, always finding the time for appointments, although I know how booked they are. They're reliable and listen to what the customer wants. We've never had a cancellation with them or any issues (even when the whole block list hot water in the winter). My dog is always smelling great and looking cute after her grooming appointments. **don't come if you have an anxious dog! Unfortunately won't be coming back! Previously had good experiences when the owner Mike would groom my dog. This time we had a blonde girl, cannot remember her name. I told her we have to give our dog trazadone because she's incredibly anxious with nail trims. When we picked her up, the groomer joked that she forgot my dog was anxious until she tried trimming her nails and laughed when she said she had to muzzle her. She only shaved under her ears when I had asked for more of her thicker fur to be trimmed. My dog had elastic flower hair ties on her ear fur that were incredibly difficult to get out. Come to find NONE of her front paw nails were trimmed including her dewclaws. I'm not too sure what I paid $100 for if none of her nails were clipped and barely any fur was trimmed. I know I have an anxious dachshund but Mike never refused service or charged me after not performing a service, unsure why this girl did. read more

Out of curiosity, I went back to look at some of the other reviews and to see if Mike had ever responded to my review, since ha has apologized to others. It's interesting that he didn't; all he needed to do was give me an apology, but it is also interesting to see that a woman complained that because she was late. she was treated very inhospitably. The last time I took my dog there I was late. His wife at the front desk assured me that it would not be a problem, but I could tell from the impatience of the groomer that it indeed was a problem. I am hesitant to mention anyone's name,, but I believe now she is considered his top female groomer. All I can suggest is that you asked for a different groomer. Pawsh is the only place I would ever consider bringing my mini schnauzer in for a groom, bath, or even for treats. The owners Mike & Nancy our groomer Jenny, and the bathers always care for my dog like she is their own. My sweet pup Cashew was cute before his grooming but every time I pick him up after Jenny gives him a groom, I can't believe that he looks even CUTER than before! Jenny always listens to what I am asking for and greets my pup with so much love and kisses. Cashew loves going to Pawsh and every time I ask him if he wants to "go see Jenny", his excitement is through the roof! We were kind of skeptical to begin with because of how mike treated us over the phone but decided to put that to the side and try anyway. But the owner had an extremely shitty attitude and refused to work with us again because of my honest review. They could have contacted me but I guess they have more than enough clients. No new clients needed. A week ago I brought my puppy here for a facial grooming and bath. We were 25 mins late because of snow storm and super bowl parade (police blocking streets). We were grateful they still took us in. However, as a result, my puppy looked very shaggy after grooming and wasn't what I was expecting at all (see photo) based on all the great reviews on Yelp. Not to mention, he was barking like a dying horse when I went to pick him up. Groomer says my dog doesn't like being in the crate. That's not true. My dog sleeps and eats in his crate. He is extremely comfortable being in the crate and he has been in-n-out day care center since he was 12 weeks old. He doesn't even bark at home so why was he barking? No idea. I wrote an angry review and warning other pet owners about it. Couple days later, my friend suggested me to give them another try since there aren't many good groomers in town. I called and wanted to make another appointment. The owner rejected me and claimed that "I attacked them on yelp without contact them first". ARE YOU SERIOUS? Not sure what's up with the strange reviews regarding the owner but I've had nothing but EXCELLENT and WONDERFUL experiences here with my cavalier pup, Remy. When I pick him up after his grooming (usually by Jenny), he always looks so incredibly stellar and beautiful (and he smells SO good afterwards too!) They always ask what I want and I appreciate that they listen to my requests for Remy. I love that the shop is right off of Newbury street so parking on a side street isn't terrible. Also their shop has a bunch of cute little outfits, toys, accessories and snacks available for your fur baby. I am so glad that I found Pawsh and will only come here for my pups special spa day. Yikes first time was awesome, second time... not so much. Dog was cut unevenly. Paws were not trimmed. They charged $20 more plus a $20 dematting fee. If I had a good look at pickup, I,wouldn't have left a $40 tip. Should I try again, maybe the groomer had an off day or the COVID blues. read more

I've taken my Frenchie here for treats and to get her nails clipped (which the owner still hasn't charged me for). I recently made a grooming appointment that I cancelled day of and they did not charge me a late cancel which was nice. My daughter and I happened to stop in there today as we were walking by. I was visiting her in college. EVERYONE in the store was so nice and helpful including another customer. They had a great selection of toys, food, treats,leashes collars pretty much everything you could need. They were also very helpful with picking out a winter coat for our new dog who was back in Connecticut. They even were allowing me to return it if it didn't fit on my next visit ! I'm so disappointed in myself for not writing a review earlier. I've been going to these guys for about 3 years now and I absolutely love them. The staff and owners are so sweet and they really take their time to know you and your dog. If they finish grooming my doggos and I can't get my dog at the time they're very nice about accommodating that, plus they'll walk them too! I have two dogs, one is a schnauzer mix and the other is a mini American Eskimo, they always look amazing. Let me tell you, my schnauzer is 10, Pawsh is on the pricer side but it's completely worth. Jenny grooms them and she's been the first and only groomer for my dogs. I really can't say enough about how great they are. Also got a great dog toy recommendation since one of my dogs completely destroys the soft toys I get him. read more

I'm so happy I've found my little guy Frankie a new place that we can trust and look forward going to! I have tried a couple groomers around the Boston area (even going as far as Braintree) but we never left happy as we did today leaving Pawsh. Frankie the Maltese usually doesn't like going to the groomers but when he was walked out he almost didn't want to leave! My usual concern when trying a new place out is how long my dog will be kept. There were two places we visited before that kept Frankie for 5 hours! You can only imagine the anxiety and nervousness a doggy parent must feel when a groomer keeps their dog for that long. Today I dropped Frankie off at 10:30 and was given a wait time of 2 -2.5 hours. That was perfectly fine with me! To my surprise I was given a call an hour and a half later to let me know Frankie was ready for pickup! We both can not wait for his next visit! Btw Pawsh has a great selection of leashes, shirts, sweaters, jackets, and accessories for your furry friend. I've been shopping at Pawsh ever since I got my dog (who has multiple allergies) because they carry a specific type of treat that she can eat and is not very popular. I made a stop at Pawsh with a friend recently, and made my way to the lower level where the treats and grooming room are. While down there, we saw a wet dog on the grooming table with a wet towel on him, and no one attending him. We waited down there awhile, and the dog was consistently shaking. My friend walked into the room and heard someone around the corner, though they couldn't be seen. When we went upstairs, we mentioned the dog and the three employees upstairs said it was "Just fear," because they don't like being in the kennel. When I replied that he was on the table alone, they repeated again that it was "just fear, and the groomer is down there." We let it go, but I can't even imagine how long that dog had been on the table, soaking wet, and unattended. I kept thinking about my dog and how bad I would feel taking her to people who had no regard for her--including the other people around! After we paid for the treats and left, we both started talking about how it still didn't sit right. A man walking a few feet ahead of us turned around and immediately shared his own bad experience with the little regard and nonchalance the people at Pawsh had. Other reviewers seem to love it, but it doesn't look like they had the opportunity to see the process of grooming, just the end result. How do I love Pawsh let me count the ways. 1. Mike and Nancy the owners are the nicest, least pretentious, most accommodating, kindest pet boutique owners. I have a cuter than average dog and every time we we go into Pawsh we cause a ruckus which Mike and Nancy graciously tolerate. 2. One day due to my lack of organization, on a Sunday night, I was having a dog food emergency. I called Pawsh to ask when they were closing. They were closing in 15 minutes but I knew it would take me longer to get there. Mike and Nancy waited for me and stayed 15 minutes past their closing time and gave (not sold) me some food samples to tide us over. Now I am not a frequent Pawsh customer because I do not live in the Back Bay. I don't spend an exorbitant amount of money at Pawsh. I say this because Mike and Nancy did not have any particular reason to have been this extra nice to me, they are just the NICEST people. 3. Pawsh has really lovely events throughout the year. I can't always make to all of them but it's nice to know that they are often raising money for local rescues and shelters. At their annual Christmas photo fundraiser I got the cutest picture of my dog with Santa. 4. They have the BEST grooming facility. As many of you who have read my other reviews know I need things to be clean and smell nice. The grooming facility at Pawsh is well ventilated and does not smell like ALL the other groomers I have ever been to. At Pawsh it smells like clean dogs. I bring my dog to have her nails clipped and ears cleaned. I am terrible at keeping up with her nails and they are often very long. Especially in winter when she doesn't do as much concrete walking. The groomer is also very nice and he is never judgmental about how long the nails are he just does a great job cutting them back. 5. I love Balki, Mike and Nancy's delightful Boston Terrier. I recently got a gift certificate for this place to bring my dog in to be groomed and when I tried to schedule an appointment they told me they haven't been accepting new clients for a couple of years now. I understand that they're a very small business and they can only accommodate a certain number of dogs at a time but I honestly think that before selling a gift certificate they should emphasize to the customer that they're not accepting new clients. Jenny is a young, energetic, creative, and professional "dog whisperer" of a groomer that I was lucky enough to meet in 2012. I have used her services for the past two years because of her precise hair cuts, effective interaction with my "restless" dog, and her professional client-groomer relationship. Before I discovered Jenny's talents, I was grooming Miles, my miniature schnauzer as I had not been impressed with the work of my local groomers. Miles looked okay, enough to be recognized as a schnauzer, and cleaned up enough to stay cool during the summer. Although I was saving on grooming costs, it took me 3 hours of my day (preparation, bathing, drying, shaving, cleaning, recovering) and it was personally stressful to anticipate and execute the grooming. And the bottom line was that he just looked okay. After three years of grooming Miles myself, I had finally had enough stress and anxiety with the grooming process, that I finally bit the bullet, and sought a new groomer. I heard about Jenny through a friend whose dogs' haircuts I had always envied. At the time Jenny had been working at No Bones About It in Brookline, MA and she was very popular in the neighborhood. Although at first she appeared young, I learned that she had had 7 years under her belt as a groomer, she was incredibly professional, and knowledgeable about grooming, pet health, and dog discipline. I warned her that Miles is often a handful, and nips relentlessly throughout all stages of the grooming process, not to mention his high pitched bark. Jenny remained positive, supportive, and ensured me that Miles would be taken care of well. I returned to her shop and found a new, beautiful creature. Miles, my scrappy little schnauzer, looked elegant, doe-eyed, with a soft and bright beard. I was speechless. Jenny filled me in on the style she created specifically for him that allowed his face to "breathe" and his eyes to shine. She also informed me that although Miles tried to nip, he was easily put in check straight from the beginning. elping was short as well. Jenny had completely transformed my pup in under an hour, and I was able relax before, during, and after the grooming. Best of all, I got to reap all the benefits including compliments from complete strangers, even people stopping their cars to comment from their window. Another benefit was that Miles's demeanor seemed to be more at ease--I guess I wasn't the only one being traumatized by my grooming. At home, Miles was NOT exhibiting his normal "post-groom-friskiness" which usually involved digging into the carpet and chasing the cat. With each visit, Miles has become a calmer dog, and Jenny has taught me so many great tricks to maintain his overall health. Some things are just better left to the professionals, and if you can find a professional dog groomer like Jenny, consider yourself lucky. Jenny now works at Pawsh Dog Boutique & Salon which sells adorable pet toys and accessories, high quality food, and clever products for every pet's need. The owners are kind and resourceful, and the manager is extremely organized and helpful. The shop is located right off Newbury St. in Back Bay, which means I can drop off Miles with Jenny and go shopping, or I can even better, enjoy a glass of wine at one of the many restaurants in the area. We've been getting our dog, Louis, groomed here for over a year. As a Welsh Terrier, Louis needs to be handstripped. We had a hard time finding a place in Boston who offers this service. Luckily, that's where Pawsh came in to save the day. Eric, one of the groomers, not only does handstripping, but he's great at it. He takes great care in ensuring that Louis is clean and has a great looking haircut. While handstripping is something that some dogs don't seem to like, I think it's a testament to Eric's care and attention to detail that Louis loves coming into Pawsh and is always super excited to see Eric. I loved this little store! I lived a few blocks away for a year, but managed to go only a couple weeks before I moved. Man I wish I had gone sooner. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and very sweet to my dog. They also sell my favorite collars (Dublin Dog.) They also had some great little duck treats for my dog. My dog doesn't ever get groomed, but I would most definitely check this place out if he did. He has to have special baths because of allergies so I do it at home. But I'm thinking of taking an extended vacation and will probably check it out for when he needs baths then so my pet sitter won't have to deal with it. read more

My new dog started "stealing" some of my items.... I caught him with my favorite faux leather Target black high heels that I had pulled out of the closet for a moment. Though he doesn't destroy things, he was sort of mashing it up a bit, like teething, so I figured it was time to get him a legit chew toy. I stopped here after the gym on a hot Wednesday evening. I was greeted by a friendly young lady sitting at the cash register. I was the only customer there, and I was surprised how tiny the spot was. Now, maybe there's another section to the store, but I didn't see it. I was expecting a much larger store. No mind, I picked up a pretty large Nylabone, hoping my dog would occupy himself with that when he got bored. The woman working there explained to me that the Nylabones apparently just chip off tiny rice-sized pieces of plastic that can pass through the body. The store was so cute, had a better selection of collars and leashes than the large pet store my friend drove me to in Danvers. But I had already ordered a custom hound collar for my boo, so we just got the nylabone. I also picked up some poop bags since they were priced pretty well. Cute spot! I wish I could have had my dog with me so he could have checked it out! We'll be back! read more

Super-friendly, adorable, big-dog-welcoming shop that makes it worth finding parking on Newbury St. This place is fantastic, and the fantastic experience starts the minute you walk in the door. (Actually, it starts out on the sidewalk - my dog is very happy when he realizes that I'm going to let him check out the place making the block smell so awesome.) The next fantastic is the warm greeting from Balki, the Boston Terrier who owns the place. I swear he meets us at the door every time, with this really cute, chill demeanor. It's seriously like he's the host of a nice party. You don't have to be Newbury St. elite to feel welcome here. His humans, Mike & Nancy, are very nice and friendly. They know what they're doing, they love dogs, and they run a great shop. It's adorable inside, and very clean and uncluttered, yet they seem to have everything you could need, and then some (pocket-sized foldable water bowls, doggy breath mints). They have hard-to-find items, like raw food, or those doggy galoshes that save your pet's paws from winter sidewalk salt, and treats that, according to my dog, are like crack. This selection and the incredibly friendly owners make me wish I lived closer so that I could buy all my dog's stuff here. It's nice to support a place like this, which is cleaner and friendlier than other pet stores - boutique or big brand. So I go into town to have my skittish border collie's nails trimmed. The groomer accomplishes this in about 60 seconds with Mike, the owner, hugging my dog to calm him. Not even a whimper from my little wimp. Fantastic! I love all the little fun things they have, all ranging from leashes, treat and ridiculously cute outfits for dogs of all sizes. I love this place. Being a little (ok, a lot) obsessed with my yorkie puppy, I get really excited about finding and trying out any and all "dog places" in Boston. I saw a girl in my vet's office with a Pawsh bag and I asked her where it was, and she told me the location but that it was closed for renovations. Then, this past weekend, I happened to be walking down Newbury Street and a girl randomly handed me a coupon for the place, so of course I checked it out. They have a really great variety of toys, gourmet treats, accessories, beds, food, you name it. And the couple that own it were extremely knowledgeable about the food they carried and just really nice in general. Their Boston Terrier is unbelievably cute, too! You would be hard pressed to find a staff that is better at remembering every single dog's name! Kudos to Mike and Nancy for embracing the neighborhood's doggy community, starting with the dog-friendly ice cream social soon after they opened the store, and continuing every holiday season with Halloween and Christmas photo shoots. I never seem to make it to most of the doggy parties or sales or fundraisers at Pawsh that I hear about, and that is a compliment! I don't have any feedback to offer on the grooming, but I can say that their selection of pet supplies is excellent. I recently got a pinch-collar at Pawsh after being unable to get one at Fish & Bone, and their cookies are always a big hit, especially the blueberry ones! I must also mention that, in the summer, they carry doggy ice cream in stock. Also, one time I came in looking for a food bucket with a screw-top lid and Mike looked up online to let me know the nearest big pet store that carries it, since he didn't have any. Thanks! If you forced me to say something bad, I might mention that it can get very very warm and muggy upstairs if the groomer is hard at work downstairs. Also, I could mention that they didn't have feline pill pockets one time I was looking for them, so I had to go to Audreys. It is just a boutique, after all, so I won't be too nit picky. I usually do not write bad reviews but I am still extremely disappointed with my last visit. Usually loved getting my American Eskimo groomed there. Took her today and when I got there, a different groomer (Jenny) was taking care of my dog. She asked what I wanted and I specifically said I wanted the smallest trim (basically nothing, like I always ask). The groomer who usually grooms my dog had previously told me that this breed shouldn't receive any significant hair cuts/shaves. They took her and when I went back to get her she was almost shaved. She looked like a different dog and it was NOT what I asked for. I trusted them since I had good experiences before. However, when I spoke to them about it, it was like they didn't even care. My dog will probably not be able to grow her coats again (if the groomer was professional she would've known this breed cannot be shaved/trimmed this much). This not only impacts how she looks, these coats act as protection to extreme weather. Extremely disappointed and will NEVER be back. read more

I said I'd update when I tried the grooming services and I did so here I am. A+++. As soon as we walked in, they recognized us. Now, I'm pretty sure my last groomer never even cut my pup's nails, so I was pretty desperate. Her poor claws were long and curling. I brought her in to Pawsh today and they had her nails done (and filed! No more razor claws!) in two minutes. Picked up some mini Zuke's for training and we were back out the door in less than 10 minutes. Also, they are the first groomers to tell me what to do about my dog's long quicks. Every other groomer says "Couldn't cut much, she has long quicks" so everyone who saw her probably thinks I'm a neglectful schmuck. I'M NOT, I SWEAR. So all I have to do is bring her in every 2-3 weeks and they'll work them back a bit. Easy. i think they're closed to new clients right now, which is sad, but understandable. The owners are extremely knowledgable and accommodating. They've stayed open late for us, given us free samples of food for our very fussy dog (Jackson), are extremely knowledgable, always remember us and Jackson, always have treats for Jackson, they even helped to train him to sit when he was just a puppy, they coordinated a doggie halloween parade on the esplanade, I could go on and on. Their groomers are also the best. They are always busy yet still accommodating. We had to get our dog groomed in a pinch at the very last moment and went to a large petstore where we paid the same reasonable price as Pawsh yet the work wasn't even a third as good as what you get a Pawsh. I wish that more stores were as welcoming and helpful as Pawsh. read more

I just moved to the back bay and newly adopted a rescue dog. My boyfriend stumbled across this new boutique. I walked in the other day not having anything for my dog since I just moved. The owners were so unbelievably helpful. He helped me order a bed and gave me samples of food to try. He actually gave me a bunch of samples to try so I could pick something my dog really liked. He also sent me the tracking numbers and kept me in the loop about the dog bed that is on the way. This place is a boutique and comes across very high end, but if you're looking to support local business this is a very reasonable place to shop. They have every fancy dog thing you'd want, without the insane price or attitude. Best of all you can tell that this couple really has a passion for what they do and it makes it that much more fun to shop there. read more
