Quick lunch stop with coworkers before a flight, and Hattie B's Austin came through…read more The fryers were down because of the storm the night before, which normally would have been a letdown, especially since my coworkers had never been to the original Nashville hot chicken spot before. But the staff handled it really well. They were fast, apologetic, and refreshingly colloquial, not stiff or robotic, just real people taking care of customers and keeping things moving. Since fried chicken was off the table, I went with the grilled chicken, and honestly it was excellent. Juicy, perfectly seasoned, and flavorful enough that it did not feel like a consolation prize. Maybe this was the universe giving my cholesterol a temporary reprieve. The collards were just okay and not the strongest part of the meal, but everything else made up for it. The restaurant itself was super clean, and you could tell this newer location is well cared for. At about two years old, it still felt sharp, polished, and well run. I've been to several Hattie B's locations over the years, including the original in Nashville, Franklin, and Atlanta, where I once saw a woman riding a horse down the street in front of the store, which remains one of the more unforgettable restaurant-adjacent moments of my life. Austin compared well with all of them. Bonus points, there was no line, so we had a quick lunch with coworkers and still made it to the airport early. Not the exact Hattie B's experience we expected, but still a very good one, and a place I'd absolutely come back to.

I have to say I've become a Hattie B's fan. They do chicken very well!…read more The flavor and quality of meat are both quite good. The team is nice and efficient. The cost is reasonable compared to other places nearby. If you're on the lookout for a tasty takeout option with prices that are tough to beat, give them a try!

They got it right... eventually!…read more I had a craving and a coupon. Dangerous combo, LOL. Since I hadn't indulged in KFC in a hot minute, I decided to go for it. Placed my order inside rather than try to communicate the cut-out of a snail-mailer coupon usage via drive thru. Was a good choice, because the employee took my order and quoted me the wrong amount. Coupon said $18.99 for a 8-piece meal, aaand he quotes me almost $30. And I'm like "Nah, that can't be right." He futzed with the console awhile but had to go get help from a more experienced employee. That's fine. I paid and was handed my order quite quickly and I took it home to eat. Foolish me didn't double-check what I'd been given in store. I hate doing that cuz it probably frustrates the employees like they can't be trusted. And yet... there was nasty-ass coleslaw instead of delicious mac n' cheese. All because they had to re-enter the order when the coupon failed and didn't input it correctly the second time. -_-# So I ate my meal at home a little grouchily (especially cuz they didn't provide any butter for the biscuits??), then shoved the leftovers in the fridge. Well, turns out I needed to hit up Walmart later that evening for milk, so I took the coleslaw back. It was five minutes 'til closing time for their lobby (9pm) and one of the doors was already locked, but the other wasn't yet. Whew. They weren't weird about it or anything, I just stated "Yeah I wanted mac n' cheese and was given coleslaw." and they replaced it super quick no questions asked. So in the end I got what I wanted. And it did all taste really good. I've been nomming the leftovers ever since, tossing the chicken and biscuits in my air fryer. Eight pieces of chicken is like four meals for me... and for twenty-ish bucks? In this economy, that's actually decent, pfft. So yup. Moral of the story: Just double-check your price before you pay and your food before you leave. =P

With that…read morebeing said: Dear Future Self, The next time your curiosity piques after being subconsciously manipulated to eat something you normally wouldn't (I blame my travels to Europe and watching too much South Park), remember KFC. Though fried chicken is a southern delicacy, KFC is not. Remember the 8 piece family meal you ordered for a family of 2. All the regrets, as you had leftovers for days. The chicken was not crispy, but rather limp. You should have known better when the drive thru attendant asked if you, "wanted regular or extra crispy". The chicken itself was greasy and plain, but not as bad as Church's. The biscuits, not the worst, but still pretty damn bland and dry. If the batter was beaten better to make it fluffy, baked less and whipped with a brush of honey butter, these would have lowkey smacked. The fries, room for improvement, as these were overly salted, but had the best crisp and flavor. Mashed potatoes, no notes. You were the best thing in this meal.

It's a KFC. You either like it occasionally or hate it for a hipster reason…read more The service will depend on the particular person that you interact with. Being that I haven't been to another KFC in a year or two, I can't say if the issues I have with this one are corporate strategy or a decision made by this franchise. First of all, and the only reason I am even writing this review, this KFC does not sell Extra Crispy bone-in chicken. That's ridiculous. If we want to go a bit more in-depth, for no real reason, since any review should just say KFC and be done; the menu layout is garbage. It's probably the by-product of millions of dollars of consumer research that looked for a menu that sold more food. But really what it is, is unreadable if you're trying to find anything that isn't the high profit eye drawing combo that they're trying to push. In summary, it's a KFC that doesn't sell Extra Crispy chicken.

I repeatedly make the mistake of returning to this KFC hoping it will magically improve - perhaps…read moreI'm a bit too optimistic. This store is hands down awful. It's disgustingly dirty to begin. The food is usually off or poorly made. Finally, and this is the biggest problem, the employees- they're awful. However I can't entirely fault them since this is a reflection of mismanagement of this store. Staff consistently doesn't read the order. If you don't want corn in your Famous Bowl, then expect there to be corn. Request white meat and you'll like get dark meat. They're colorblind. Order an extra biscuit and no biscuit for you! Sauces for your nuggets or tenders- what sauce? If you dare ask them to correct a problem and you'll get a blank stare. What could be wrong? Even worse it'll be a fight to get it corrected and you'll never get an apology. Beware I get the feeling that they'll spit in your food if you push it. My advice is be smarter than me. Go elsewhere! You will be thankful that you did and avoid the kind of pull your hair out frustration that I've experienced.
