    $19!

Not much to complain about since this is really a bang for your buck type meal! You get what you see and pay fore. I grew up eating southern food in cafeteria Styled restaurants just like Luby's and it really brought me nostalgia and comfort. For a first timer here, it's a lot to take in. I wish the food bar had more labels cause there were none. The food on the hot bar looks fresh and hot lol. My partner and I Were interested in many things but settled for a steak and fried chicken. Sides looked delicious as well but we weren't going to grab everything as we knew we weren't going to finish it all. I got a buttered corn side and cabbage side plus a wheat roll with my entree. And my Husband grabbed mac and cheese and cornbread for his steak. Most items were rather on the salty side but that's okay. The dining area was clean, has high chairs, and very nice patrons who kept my daughter entertained while we ate, Our total was $19 for food items which you pay before sitting down and we left a cash tip after our meal! Would definitely return!

Luby's...well...it's for a particular crowd. It's got homey vibes with an older clientele. I got the blackened tilapia and my daughter got the pork chop. It comes with 2 sides and bread, I think? No one really explained how it worked and since we were new customers, we just went with the flow. My kid wanted a dessert, but the plastic boxes were too hard to peruse with a line behind us. The price was fine for what we got, but with a run down atmosphere and buffet style table service, I don't know if it was all worth it. I'll be frank. This is the type of place you end up at when you're hangry, not close enough to something you really want, nor can everyone decide on what they want. It's a place holder. But, I must say the older crowd seemed to love it. They sat around like it was their dining room. Fish was cooked well, but the sadly pork chop was dry. The sides were fine, nothing notable. I won't be back, but I wish the place well for the sake of their die hard frequent customers.

Fresh made pies and cakes displayed perfectly.

A great memory of Luby's that I hope is available for years for all those who grew up eating in cafeterias like Luby's, Piccadilly, Furr's, Wyatt's and Morrisons along with the many other mom and pop cafeterias that were and still are mainstays in their communities with generational customers. The Luby's on W Slaughter at the time of these photos was at the top of their game and I always enjoying dining there every opportunity I could. There's something for everyone which is why Luby's has been a choice for families in Texas for many decades.

    Wilted side Tossed Salad

I ordered on the TOGO side of the restaurant. I was so excited to eat at Luby's to get back to work and find cold broccoli the size of my hand! Cold cheese steak, and a wilted brown tossed salad. $15.78 for cold food, did not seem fresh. I am very disappointed in Luby's.

The food line, several options here although I didn't see a vegetarian entree

I…read morefeel like the kind of people who are interested in a healthy bowl of nourishing food would be split not quite down the middle between both of these restaurants. Are they hoping the better-known Mediterranean bowl place will be so full they can catch their overflow? People in a rush might skip the line and try this less-known healthy bowl food restaurant instead? But I digress... I had tried CAVA four times or so and every time I saw MAD Greens and thought, Someday I'm going to try that place. Well, last Sunday was the day. I got to eat what I wanted because I was eating solo. I'm going all in on this trial run, I thought to myself, so I bought one salad for that day and ordered another to be my lunch the following day. I walked in and was the only customer in the restaurant. I was greeted warmly by the young man behind the counter, who called me queen and had no complaint about my asking for no tomatoes and the dressings on the side. I tried the Greek one and the sesame sriracha one. The place was clean enough and the employees seemed to be enjoying themselves, chatting and goofing off a reasonable amount. The bowls were great. I chose the Greek one first when I realized it had pita chips inside. It came with two dressings, the creamier of which was a.m.a.z.i.n.g. Confession--I am a recovering picky eater and I hate cucumbers, but I love sneaking them into my body underneath delicious dressings and salty kalamatas. The second day I ate the sesame sriracha situation. It had tofu, which tbh I have never successfully eaten, and it was really good. It reminded me of the paneer in Indian food. That salad had edamame too, so I was definitely satiated and I'm guessing I got plenty of protein. Overall, I will definitely go back. CAVA has had some consistency problems for me, as well as some of my favorite offerings being limited-time or seasonal (isn't it the worst when restaurants lure you in with seasonal offerings you can't count on?!), so I'm glad to have had such a positive experience here and I'm hoping they will be consistently good.

However, I must say that MAD Greens makes some MAD GOOD salads. My go to is the spicy bacon bowl with boil eggs. I feel better about my life when I order this because I'm getting my greens in, getting my protein with the chicken, and I'm actually enjoying my rabbit food (aka salad). This is a must have for me. Coming from a non salad person ( I know... it's okay to judge me) I really enjoy their salads and their spicy bacon bowl makes me happy. Another food item that I love is their Mac and cheese. It's so tasty. I love it here and love their salads because the greens taste fresh. #madgoodness

Friendly, helpful, efficient 8/10 Restaurant-fun, clean, quirky as I remember it.. cows hanging on the ceiling. 9/10 Food- I had the Crispy Rice Salad with tofu. -And a large side of the couscous (I LOVE that couscous... its creamy, light, the texture is fun and its super as a side or adds a boost to any salad or sandwich). -the salad greens crisp, rice was an amazing crunch. -dressing was soo good! Umami yet bright and light -all the extra veggies at the peak of season. Just chefs kiss! Ps: LOVE how the dressing has its own "home" in the to-go container. -points taken off for the tofu.. it was SUPER salty. Not sure if that is always the way or it was just a bit heavy handed today. It was not edible (bummer). The salad and the large couscous lasted me 4 meals. They pack a LOT of salad in that to go container. Is it worth for "just a salad or sandwich" here. YES! There is a very small building with indoor seating, but it only has a restroom and a handful of small tables. I do want to give the benefit of a doubt as I was part of a fairly large group meet up, so some of the delays in service and getting food was probably due to the large number of people for a very small kitchen. I also 100% have to blame the meet up organizers for not letting us know it was outdoors! The place is BYOB although they do have a selection of bottles nonalcoholic drinks. Even though it was outdoor seating at picnic tables, there was one girl taking orders, and another guy delivering food, we did have to wait a bit for our food, but the point of the meet up was chatting and socializing so it wasn't a huge deal. The food arrived hot and was pretty good. My main complaint is that the portion seemed a little small for the price point, I got the Tom Kha soup and $13 for a pint of soup and a scoop of rice seemed high. The flavor of the broth was good but there were definitely more onions than chicken! That being said I liked that the spice level didn't seem to be lowered- I got a 3/5 and it definitely made my nose run a bit XD All in all I think to really get an accurate read I'd have to try again under more normal circumstances.

Even when foot traffic picked up while we were there, the food was replenished quickly and didn't look picked over. Now let's talk food...Everything tastes fresh, well-seasoned, and like it was made with care instead of just being "buffet food" an under seasoned. The variety is also amazing, and it's easy to build a plate for pretty much any type of diet whether you're keto, high protein, balanced, veggie-forward, vegan, etc... Some of our favorite dishes we keep coming back for: Shredded beef (SO good), Baked fish (tender and not fishy), Garlic baked chicken (wonderful crispy skin), Fried chicken, Baked kafta, Kafta kebab, Gyro meat, Roasted cauliflower, Eggplant, Greek salad, Fatoush, Kale Caesar salad, Zaatar pizza, Cheese pizza (pro tip: top it with shredded beef- a life changing buffet hack), Rice with lentils, Rice with mixed veggies. For the quality, variety and amount of food you get, this is easily one of the best deals in the city! It's rare to find a buffet that's both affordable and consistently this good! If I had one small wish, it would be for desserts to match how strong the rest of the food is. They're not bad, just a little more "fine" compared to how amazing everything else is. I've seen another Dimassi's (I think in Cali) that had a frozen yogurt machine and I'd LOVE to see that here because it would be the perfect finish! Make a cup and then crumble up some baklava on it! Overall we've LOVED it here and we'll absolutely keep coming back! Great food, clean, consistent, and worth it every time!
