If you're looking for some authentic fried chicken that's done perfectly and seasoned well go to Pollo Campero. I've had their fried chicken three times and they've never disappointed me. Fully cooked chicken even the bigger white meat cuts and very crispy. Just the way my family likes it. The sides are delicious too from the beans to the rice even their friend plantains are done well. Whenever I need some good fried chicken they are my number 1 go to that's very close and affordable. They are constantly making fresh chicken...but seeing trays of chicken sitting in the back makes me wonder if they are just reheating?!? I like the yelp free piece of fried chicken check in offer. It's good to yelp! Pollo Campero is fried chicken in Spanish, so of course I am expecting to just try fried chicken and leave with a judgment versus a litany of other fried chicken places across this fair land of ours...but that was not the case. In regards to their fried chicken, their chicken is on par with many other places. If you need me to explain that statement further, I can simply put it that their fried chicken has nothing truly special about it whatsoever. In regards to food just being about average, their side dishes are about average as well. Pollo Campero does have two redeeming items however. In regards to sides, get the street corn salad. 2 times thus far, when I have ordered this particular side item, it has been all consumed well before the store day was over. Texturally and flavor wise, this is a good blend for your palate. In regards to the chicken itself, going with the grilled citrus chicken is the way to go. This particular preparation of their chicken really brings a flavor pop to the tongue. It actually taste as if they put love into their preparation when you bite into these juicy poultry pieces. Overall, if you try everything on the menu, I am certain you will prefer my two choices from this place. Also, if you like Horchata, mango drinks or guava drinks, you will have some authentic Central American liquids to indulge in while dining. Chicken - as good as you can get from any back-road gas station. small pieces, dried out and bereft of the "flavor" that they claim to have. Unless that flavor they were going for is "paste with a hint of salt" or "shake'n'bake" Beans - the beans were good actually. Flavor was there, but they were more runny than anything. Slaw - WTF happened? It smelled like a foot, and tasted like green peppers and vinegar! JUST DON'T!! Fries - Cold, dry, and old. Someone forgot to monitor food timers it seems. If this is the kind of food you want, then go to a Flying J, or a TA on one of the interstates. The chicken will be much better and cheaper! I will never go back to Pollo Campero. Well, where do I even begin... first off this place is loaded with staff like 10 plus employees and no one doing nothing. Literally their either eating their own chicken or cracking jokes and hanging out while people are in the lobby waiting for food for over 10 minutes and the drive thru had cars waiting for food. I hope corporate looks at this review and does something about this location. This Pollo Campero is always out of grilled chicken even if you tell them you'll wait they still won't make any. I first heard of Pollo Campero when they opened one location in Chicago. It was way out west in the brickyard mall, a 1.5 hour round trip from our place, but we made a special trip out there because we heard it was so good. There were always lines out the door. We were not disappointed. Now that I'm in Houston, folks don't seem so interested in crossing cultural culinary boundaries. But every time I've introduced my non-central American friends, they've thanked me. Get the Yucca Fries and the plantains for sides. Recently went at 7pm and we were greeted by the employee telling us everything they didn't have. Thinking I wouldn't find out. The chicken was hot to the touch and steaming in the inside, really soggy tasted like it was boiled in water! It was a complete mess! I came here for grilled chicken! The service is just really bad, from ordering to getting your food. Word of advice don't go through the drive thru because once you go in you can't get out. Sometimes the food is still frozen when you get it. A lot of times they are out of things on the menu. And the staff really does not have very much knowledge about the menu. This area has congested traffic all day long & you can't be picking chicken off the bone while you're driving. Let's face it, we are driving all the time! I really like the chicken here, full of flavor no matter if you get grilled or fried. It's basically a Spanish version of kfc but this place taste better. The thing I really like is that the fried chicken here doesn't have all the breeding like Popeyes which is a plus for me.
