I ended up eating at Pollo Lucas twice during my recent trip to Rocky Point, which should tell you how much I enjoyed it. It's quickly become one of my favorite spots for authentic grilled chicken. The chicken is the star of the meal--juicy, flavorful, and cooked over a charcoal grill that gives it an amazing smoky flavor. The rice and beans are also very authentic and pair perfectly with the chicken. My only minor critique is that the beans were a little soupier than I personally prefer, but they still tasted great. The macaroni salad was the only item that didn't really stand out. It wasn't bad, but it lacked seasoning and flavor compared to everything else on the plate. A couple of things to know before you go: it's cash only, so be sure to bring pesos or usd. It's also an outdoor-style restaurant with covered seating, and because the chicken is cooked over an open charcoal grill, the dining area can get fairly smoky. It definitely adds to the authentic experience, but it's something to keep in mind if you're sensitive to smoke. Overall, the food is delicious enough that I came back a second time during the same trip. While there are a few small areas for improvement, the flavorful chicken and authentic sides make Pollo Lucas a spot I'll definitely visit again the next time I'm in Rocky Point. read more

Great place! Chicken is fire and so are the beans. The beans have a nice kick to them. The chicken is crazy juicy and although 3/4 the size of a Costco rotisserie chicken t still met the appetites of the 3 of us. It is a giant palapa which the grill on one side and the restaurant on the other. You sit at old wooden tables with traditional chairs and the server comes by and asks for your order. The menu consists of banners hung around the dining room. The food comes out quick so be ready. The sides are optional but you can't go wrong with the rice and beans. The salsa has a bit of a bite, but delicious nonetheless. My only knock was that once we were done the server took out remaking tortillas and put them back in the warmer for the next table. Not worried about germs, after all we are in a giant palapa. But the fact that they wouldn't toss them out or give them to the people that needed it outside the entrance. We ordered the corn and they were just old which is why I Dropped them to a 4. So when you go be cautious of corn tortillas. But love everything else. read more

Honestly, it matched the atmosphere perfectly. The place has that Mexican charm, with an open-air setup that lets in the breeze and gives you a relaxed, local feel. It's also conveniently located, and fun fact: it was actually recommended by one of our taxi drivers, which made me trust . Loved, loved, loved this place! This was recommended to us by a local and we're glad we followed his suggestion. Pollo Lucas has been in the community for decades and they seem like a staple related to fresh chicken in the town. Similarly to other places, there are vendors and men outside who want cash for helping you park. The seating inside offers a lot of spots, but vendors do come inside and ask if you're interested in purchasing other goods. This restaurant does take card payments, but prefer cash/pesos. Most of the workers do not know English, so be prepared and know at least some basic Spanish words beforehand. If not, it'll still be okay! The women at the counter were very kind and helped us get seated. My group shared one chicken (240 pesos) with rice, beans, and salsas. I grabbed a homemade juice that was yummy too. Note that the chicken comes with cabbage, onion, salsa, limes, and tortillas but the other sides are seperate. The chicken was so hot, fresh, and flavorful. Everything was delicious and we ate it all with no leftovers. The chicken is charbroiled and you can see it all cooking. It made it hard to wait for the food, as it smelled amazing, but it's worth the wait. We'd 100% come back again. read more

We bought two chickens plus sides and it was plenty for five men. Rustic atmosphere typical of street restaurants in Mexico. Staff only speak a few words of English so it's better to switch to Spanish if you can speak it. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. The consistency of the pollo asado and all the sides keeps us coming back for more. The pollo asado is marinated in citrus, its juicy and prepared fresh all day long over an open flame, until they run out for the day. I prefer to eat my food under the palapa, but it travels well and reheats nicely for leftovers after a night on the town. The side items include refried beans, rice and macaroni salad. Homemade tortillas come with every order as do the shredded cabbage, red onion, limes and salsa. You won't regret stopping by this spot, on busy weekends they do run out of chicken and beans early because everybody gets ones for here and one to go. Enjoy!! read more

Long tables bathed in smoke from the grill. Uniformed staff run around taking orders, delivering food and drinks. A boss with readers mans the cash register and observes everything going in and out. The asaderos at the grill and moving chicken from hot to cool to hot again, as necessary. The customers are a mixture of Mexican tourists, American tourists and locals. There is only one dish on the menu - grilled chicken, or pollo asado. The chicken is not spice rubbed or coated in a sticky marinade. I only tasted salt and pepper and smoke on the chicken which was perfectly cooked and flavorful. The sides of rice and beans are a must. I found out the beans contain chipotle and chorizo and wouldn't be shocked if they used chicken fat too. The soft flour tortillas that allow light to penetrate and common everywhere in PP were hot and ready to receive a little chicken, some beans and rice, some skin and some salsa for a perfect bite. read more

It was our first trip to Rocky Point and we had a big group to feed, so we were looking for big group friendly options. We read some reviews on Pollo Lucas and ventured into town for dinner. We made sure to come a little early because we heard they could run out of chicken but as we parked and walked up, we could see all the chickens being cooked so we were in luck. When you order, you choose either a whole chicken, a half chicken, or a quarter chicken. They chop the chicken right next to the register so you can see how much food it is you're getting. You can get the tortillas, cabbage, onions, and limes to make the tacos with and add rice and/or beans as a side. Sodas and water are bottled. The chicken was amazing! It was tender enough to be pulled right off the bones with just the forks at the table, didn't need anything additional to take it apart. It was flavorful just by itself but when added with the lime juice and onion and the delicious tortilla, chef's kiss! We did two whole chickens and 11 people were very well fed. We got to sit at a big long table and just eat it all family style, just a really fun experience. read more

After reading the rave reviews, our party of 9 headed to Pollo Lucas on a recent trip to Rocky Point... We knew going in that it was a limited menu and not to expect much in terms of ambiance and service and I'm glad we did. I wish we would have known to bring our own drinks. We ended up scoring a table right away, but it took awhile to flag down a server to place our order. We went with two whole chickens with all of the sides and were told it would be 40 minutes -- at least they prepared us for the wait! Our kids got a bit antsy waiting (and quite honestly, so did the adults), but the chicken was worth the wait. Admittedly, I've had better in Puerto Vallarta, but this was very good. We probably could have ordered an additional half or whole chicken. We enjoyed the tortillas, rice, beans, salsa, cabbage, onions and sopa (which is a cold macaroni noodle salad). If you're wanting some tasty chicken and sides at a moderate price, this seems to be the place to go... take out or dine in, but make sure to have your own drinks ready either way and be prepared to wait a bit too! read more

You have to stop here when you're visiting rocky point. This place was amazing. The atmosphere was great they cooked over coals right in the dining area and the smell radiated across the venue. Plan to wait for about a half hour for your chicken to cook if you plan on ordering a whole chicken. Don't worry you won't be disappointed. The head lady speaks Enough english so that the ordering experience isn't awkward and she's quick too so by the time you get to the counter you should know what you want. Not even from the other employees. This was a blatant homophonic act. We solely believe we were mistreated because of my friend being gay. Take your business elsewhere. There's fly's everywhere and nowhere to sit. The whole place is enveloped in black smoke.
