Place is out of business plus it kinda served food that sucked anyways. Lots of old folks liked it cuz it way cheap.

The door is literally right off the street, you walk right into the heart of the restaurant- it is one large room with the bar to the right. The Margarita Cadillac is delish, can't come here without trying at least one. We had the Mexican special, which consisted of a chili rellano stuffed with cheese, a pork tamale and an enchilada, with the choice of red or green chile on the enchilada. I had the red chili and onions on my enchilada as it took me back to my grandmother's house. Others at the table had the red chili enchiladas flat - also reminiscent of grandma's. Everything was delicious. I wasn't a fan of the beans but i rather eat everything else, you have so many choices. The chili isn't hot as you will notice most restaurants in Mexico don't have hot salsas. But they are very flavorful. Mom loves the bacon cheese fries and wings. We also tried the Mexican shrimp cocktail. I forgot to take a picture before we started eating it, but it was sooo good and had tons of freshness and big shrimp so yummy! read more

If you like mild Mexican food, this restaurant caters to your palate. The salsa has no heat but a roasted chili flavor that goes with everything even if it is a bit watery. I tried my friend's chicken enchiladas and the red sauce was vibrant in color but also had no heat whatsoever and little flavor reminiscent of tomato soup. The carne asada burrito had tender beef pieces with no surprises like fat or gristle but the primary ingredient was beans and cheese. The rice was fluffy and properly cooked but bland. The highlight was the chorizo dip, on special this day, which did have flavor and plenty of chorizo crumbles. The menu had plenty of other more traditional choices that I would try if I return but I would ask for guidance from the server about which dishes they are particularly proud of because the prices are USD$20 each for these plates and I don't want to risk getting one that lacks creativity and excitement like the ones we tried tonight. read more

More like 4.5 stars... We tried this place after hearing about it in a Rocky Point food group on Facebook. I tried it with my family because some of us like seafood, some of us like Mexican, and some of us like American. We really loved it and will be back. Here is what we ate, and it was all great: 1. The cheese fries - the cheese sauce is like something from a carnival. It is delicious and any kid would like it. It is also extremely "American," so if someone is craving American food instead of Mexican, you can go here. 2. The steak fajitas. 3. The chicken wings... But they are a bit better at the bar at Bella Sirena, though more expensive. 4. The shrimp basket. You can get breaded shrimp at many restaurants in Rocky Point, however, these were definitely the best. The batter is more like Panko crumbs instead of thick frying. Finally, in general, the french fries, salsa, guacamole, and bean dip are all amazing. I would have given this five stars, but my boyfriend got sick from eating the fish and chips... The fish is grouper, and it had the same delicious batter as the shrimp, but it must have been a bad piece of fish. All in all, we will go back every time, and everyone should try this place! read more

I beg you, please don't judge The New Mexican by its cover. The decor will underwhelm but the service and food will dazzle!!!! We deliberately ordered twice as much food as we possibly could eat, solely to give this restaurant a fair shake. Appetizer: Chili Cheese Fries. Simplicity with deep flavors and a total comfort feel. If you were just dropping in for happy hour and wanted a little nosh to share, this is a solid pick to pair your Dos XX. Main Entrees: (listed in the order of spectacular deliciousness) 1. The New Mexican Molcajete: superb!!!! Beef strips like fajita, chicken strips, shrimp, scallops all smothered in a green chili with cheese and cream sauce served with a warm, fresh tortilla. I dont know how I have missed this dish before but wow are the flavors deep and so well balanced. This dish could readily be served at any high end restaurant with a little change to the plating. 2. Clam Chowder. I am self-admittedly a clam chowder snob. With that said, this dish is the second best bowl of chowder I have ever enjoyed. It is large enough for the table and I am certain you will want to take ho e a pint to-go. 3. Cast Iron Chicken Fajitas. The key here is the perfect seasoning of the cast iron where it imparts a smoky, yet even heat to the meat. The chicken was tender and never developed the typical overcooked fajita temp. 4. Green Chili Enchiladas. A classic dish given a twist of being smothered in the House special green chili. Sadly, this dish alone is great but dwarfed by the food superstars mentioned above. I could readily see the New Mexican become the Go-To Best Restaurant in Puerto Peñasco Mexico. If the owner altered the decor to match the brilliance of the food, polished the menu a bit and tamed the heat (temperature, not spice) of the food brought to the table, I am willing to be bold enough to state that The New Mexican could gain international attention for its excellence. Thank you for a great food experience and spectacular end to our week. I will certainly be back and recommend to all will hear. read more

Loved it! Family of 4 adults and two kids (11 and 9) and the bill was $116. Both kids got full meals and we had 3 adult beverages and like 5 sodas. Awesome food! We came on a Sunday night, 6 of us and were seated right away. Our waiter was super friendly and nice! I don't remember his name but he was great. The food here was just alright. I had the chimichanga and it wasn't anything special. Got to try some of the molcajete and it was good but not at the level I expected. The wait to get our food just stretched on forever (it was at least an hour). Eventually half our table got food, and the other half got food 10 minutes after. The brownie for dessert was pretty good! Not sure I'll be coming back here, though. read more

This place is absolutely amazing and definitely a favorite when we visit the area. You can tell the cooks take great pride in the food and presentation . Perfect portions, about what you would expect from a similar restaurant. We've been there half a dozen times and we're never disappointed. Heard about this place on the Facebook Puerto Penasco community page. Stopped in 1st day here and had the Clam Chowder and the "The New Mexican" Molcajete. Goodness, the clam chowder was great but I can't even begin to explain the amazing experience enjoying the Molcajete. Beef, chicken, shrimp, scallops and a Hatch green chile sauce. The owners are from New Mexico and it shows in the food. Staff super helpful and friendly. Back again today on day 2 for Happy Hour 1-4 $1.50 draft beers and Jack Daniels shrimp. Yum! Went to The New Mexican this our second time there. I loved, loved, loved the food. We went with another couple each of us loved our food. The presentation was lovely. Thanks to another review I decided to try the Molcajete oh my goodness, I was not disappointed , every bite was delicious. It was piping hot and filled with nice big chunks of shrimp, beef, chicken, scallops and hatch green chile sauce. My husband and I shared it and we still had left overs. Our friends had beef tacos and shrimp tacos and said they said they were very tasty. The building is very plane on the outside, on the inside they had 6 flat screen t.v.s Nice bar area and many fancy mixed drinks to choose from. The staff was very friendly and prompt.
