I think thos is my first time reviewing this particular Pollo Tropical located at 800 N. University Drive in Coral Springs. It sits in the parking lot of Whole Foods in what, I believe, is known as the Coral Crossing shopping plaza. I think the drive-thru is the way to go. Wanting some of Pollo's juicy, citrus marinated chicken I drove into their drive-thru lane circling the building. At the north side I placed my order with an attendant holding an iPad standing in the grass by the building and wearing a headset. Asking for Dark Meat, I asked for a 1/4 Chicken with two (2) sides including soupy black beans and white rice. I asked that the beans be "soupy." I also asked for one (only) of two different sauces: 1.) Curry Mustard sauce, and, 2.) Cilantro Garlic sauce (recommended by the Attendant when I could not recall which sauce I wanted to try). I also declined the bread roll. Up at pickup window where sauces were listed outside the window on a small poster O immediately was drawn to the Pineapple Bourbon sauce so I asked the female employee at window for one (only) of said sauces. I also ordered a small drink. She said sure to the Pineapple Bourbon sauce. I heard her tell a young male employee setting up orders that there was to be No Bread for my order. The male was visibly perplexed about my No Bread request and he asked about it at least three (3) times. Each time I heard her tell him "No Bread." The order was handed to me in a bag and I remembered to ask her for a receipt because the order taker did not issue receipts and explained I'd have to get a receipt, if I wanted one, at the pickup window. She acquieced and gave me my receipt. Driving off with the goods on a Saturday Night I hoped the meal would be all that I wanted. At destination I opened the bag and all appeared to be in order except there was an unwanted Bread roll with the order. I also received my small Diet Coke drink. Utensils were in the bag so I used thrm them. Though I planned to end up with no more than three (3) souffle cups of sauce I was given six (6) or more. Wasteful as far as unwanted Roll (bread) and too many duplicate sauces, especially for a small 1/4 size portion chicken meal. Started eating and the chicken was so tender and juicy and had the Tail meat on it I enjoy. Such a treat to have a piece of chicken with, to me, a much desired Tail bit. Both pieces of meat were the dark meat I specified. It was juicy and not dry at all. I used the delightful new- NEW to me- Pineapple Bourbon sauce and my old standard Curry Mustard sauce on my chicken. I never tried the Cilantro garlic sauce. The rice was very good too as were my "soupy" black beans. I did not receive a spoon but was able to drink my soupy black beans from their styrofoam container like a soup. This was one of the worst customer service experiences I've had at a drive-thru. Upon approaching the order line, one employee was engaged in a personal conversation using profanity. i then drove up to the window to get my order, After receiving my order, I was informed by another employee that the plantains weren't ready and was asked to park and wait. I parked as instructed and waited approximately 25 minutes. No one came out, no one checked on me, and no update was provided. I ultimately had to re-enter the drive-thru line myself to retrieve the missing item, since i had a sleeping toddler in the car. When I asked whether anyone had intended to leave me waiting indefinitely, the employee responded, "We're busy." When I explained that someone could have simply come outside or communicated with me, she stated "well you could've come inside". I requested a manager. The manager completely missed the mark, he offered an apology and a free drink. The gesture missed the point entirely. The issue was not the cost of a drink -- it was the lack of communication, unprofessional conduct, and the overall failure in customer service. Offering a free drink without addressing the employee's behavior or the breakdown in service felt dismissive rather than remedial. This location would benefit from improved customer service training, clearer communication protocols, and more professional staff interactions. Customers should not be left waiting in a parking lot and then blamed for not coming inside after being directed to wait outside. read more

As for customer service... you'd receive better attention and respect from an employee at a government social services office. I had to wait a total of 10 minutes for an order I had placed online from home--an order which, according to their website, was supposed to be ready in 5 minutes. I went to pick up my order, and the restaurant was completely deserted. So I thought: "Well, it's 10:20 p.m.; my order is bound to be perfect." I was wrong! They made me wait an additional 5 minutes because they hadn't even started cooking the order I had paid for and placed on their website about 7 minutes earlier. So I thought: "Fine... I'll wait; at least my food will be freshly made." I was wrong again! They handed me a petrified "steak"--you know, that cheap meat they have the audacity to sell to the public as "churrasco." I decided to give it to my dog, who flatly refused to eat it. I threw the cold rice and beans in the trash, as I have no idea where they could possibly have dug them up. I had ordered potato wedges. Instead, they handed me a cardboard box containing what looked like dry, fossilized bones--bones unearthed during an excavation inside a prehistoric cooking-oil deposit. They are supposed to close at 12:00 a.m. This incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. My point is this: if you aren't capable of providing acceptable service and products at that time of day, simply close earlier--sometime in the afternoon. Be honest: you don't have the caliber of employees needed to provide good service at that time of night. Stop stealing money from the people who keep your mediocre business alive--the very people who pay for the mediocre employees you've hired to replace the good ones you used to have, who probably ended up quitting. This joint used to be a place where you could grab a bite and pick up some groceries when you got home at night. Now, it's an absolute dump. This is what happens to every business that starts hiring these kinds of lazy, mediocre employees--people who don't give a damn about the work they do or the service they're supposed to provide in exchange for their paycheck, and who just like to take it easy. These are the employees who turn profitable businesses into total failures. The economy is all messed up. This is no time to screw up your business because of other people's poor performance. I had two plastic forks during my meal, and both were defective in a way that they kept catching on my lip when I tried to use them. I usually go to Pollo Tropical for the chicken breast platter because it usually guarantees a decent portion--unlike the Tropichops, which are always light on chicken. But tonight was the final straw. We ordered 4 chicken breasts through the drive-thru. The attendant was polite and professional--no issue there. But once we pulled up, the manager (in a red shirt, so I'm assuming it was her) told us to park and wait for the food. A few minutes later, she came out and said they were out of whole breasts and offered pre-chopped chicken instead. She claimed it was the same amount, just cut up. That was a lie. We agreed--hesitantly--and they brought out 4 tiny cups of chopped chicken. Not only were the cups not full, but each one was barely half full--mostly air. We paid over $20 for this and were completely shortchanged. When we spoke to another associate to express that this wasn't equivalent to full chicken breasts, she brushed us off and said "that's the normal amount" and "breasts are small anyway." I've eaten here many times. I know what a full chicken breast looks like, and this wasn't it. Not even close. Again, bottom line: this was dishonest and lazy. Either serve full chicken breasts like customers ordered, ask them to wait the time honestly, or offer a real refund. Don't pass off scraps in a cup and try to gaslight customers like we don't know what we ordered. Pollo Tropical is NOT consistent. I was surprised that the drive thru was not busy with a line of cars. As soon as you drive thru there is an associate named Lejohn that took my order and he was very sweet. My mom was with me so she asked him for the senior discount which is 10%. He applied it to the order. I ordered a family meal dual with extra dark meat chicken. If you like dark meat you have to make sure to mention that you want your chicken to be dark meat and if they don't want to do it for you tell them that you will wait for it to be done. I also let the associate know that I do have the rewards app but he said for me to give him my number instead of scanning my QR code. I recommend to use the app everytime you order because once you earn enough points you can get $5 off on your next order. As soon as I drove up to the window the associate took got my order correctly. I even asked for forks and plates and he gave it to me. I liked how the chicken, rice and beans tasted but I don't like how the plantains taste. The plantains taste disgusting. The cilantro and the barbecue sauce were also super watery. This location, typically has always slacked like no utensils, straws, napkins and missing sauces, or wrong add ons. Pollo tropical is always clutch when you're looking for quick and clean eats. This is typically a go to spot for me after a workout just for some quick and clean sustinance. I came here on my usual FL routine, right after a workout. Grilled chicken, rice, beans, avocado, a little onions. Back on the road and to my next spot feeling full and refreshed. This is by far one of my favorite franchises so this particular location did exactly what I expected from any other in South FL. We have been buying from this Pollo location for many years. Neighbors to the Coral Square Mall, and sharing commons with The Home Depot, Whole Foods, Stein Mart and Sam's, it is centrally located to service customers in Coral Springs, Tamarac, and west Margate. I have ordered at their Drive-Thru countless times; especially soup, tropichop, the quarter dark meat meal, yucca, chicken Caesar wrap and salad, guava cheesecake, flan, and tres leches turned four (what's the fourth type of milk?), but I try to avoid dining in, as I have yet to have a good experience. This visit was perfect example and I will deliberate over it in general terms. The food is usual and customary--what you expect--depending on whether the griller was distracted one time too many or not, your "pollo" will be "tropical" or "charred"! On average, all of the menu items, as long as the standards are followed, and discard dates met, will be good. No more; no less. For the past decade or so, CEOs have considered the TBL (triple bottom line) in their business practices, and this business does not appear to be doing so, as most of their "restaurants" are in decline. Employee morale is on a downward spiral, and customer service with it. My pet peeves, if you will, are cleanliness, and customer relations. For that, not only do you lose stars, but you get to see the photos displayed. Clean "our" dine-ins up management! We love the tropical fare and flair over all the rest. This is by far the worst location I've ever been to. The assistant manager named Kelly is completely lacking in customer service. My husband and I went through the drive-through, purchased dinner and did NOT receive items that were paid for. I returned after getting home and realizing to receive a refund for the items, but this assistant manager can't even act apologetic. Instead, she acted as if I bothered her for wanting to receive the food I paid for. I see why this place is a nightmare. The chicken was so so dry.... not good at all. We will NEVER return! This specific Pollo Tropical has one thing that always impresses me. Their family whole chicken is always done just perfect, not overcooked like may other locations. Outside of that everything else is about the same but I also notice how quick the drive through is here and this is one Pollo Tropical location that has never messed up my order. This is one of the first Pollo Tropical locations. It is a great option for those days when you are too tire for fancy dinning or cooking. There is not consistency in the quality of the food or service, but most of the time It is good. On this trip the whole chicken was perfect for my liking, and the rice and beans were ok. All for around $13 dollars, that's a really good value. I haven't try them yet, but I noticed they expanded the menu to include mac & cheese and mach potatoes. Is good to have choices.
