Pollo Tropical, Spanish for Tropical Chicken is a South Florida based company founded in 1988 by two brothers from Miami, Larry and Stuart Harris. They developed their marinade recipe through backyard barbecues. Their restaurant concept was to marinate and grill the chicken in full view of the customer. By 1993 they had grown to eight restaurants serving Latin Caribbean and Cuban food. Pollo Tropical is now a subsidiary of Fiesta Restaurant Group, Inc. The company headquarters are in Doral and they currently own and operate more than 140 locations throughout Florida, plus five on college campuses, and 32 franchised locations throughout the Caribbean, Central America, South America, and Puerto Rico. I remember eating at Pollo Tropical quiet often in the early 2000's because you could always get a fast, economical, and healthy meal. I especially love the curry sauce but through the years the grubbiness of the restaurants were a real turn off and I gradually stopped going. Fast forward to today when I was with someone who wanted to eat here. I didn't have high hopes but in the interest of being agreeable I went along. Wow, I have to say I am impressed. The restaurant was spotless with an updated tropical color scheme. It looked clean and spacious. The tables weren't sticky and dirty which was always a problem before. Gone is the sloppy, messy sauce station. Instead you request your sauce and it is given portioned out in plastic cups. The young lady who took our order was so nice. I got my usual chicken tropichop with yellow rice and the bowl was topped with perfectly grilled tender chunks of chicken. So good especially when drizzled with the curry sauce. I ate inside and it was very pleasant but you can get your food to go from the drive thru too. This was a really good lunch that didn't leave me feeling heavy, tired, and bloated after. This location of Pollo Tropical deserves some higher stars. read more

Honestly can't be mad at this place. It's excellent for fast food. Service was excellent order was placed and came right out. Restaurant was clean and well put together. Chicken was a little dry but they have some nice sauces to help re-hydrate the meats. Like I said for fast food Cuban dishes it's really not bad. read more

Perfect drive thru experience! Maybe I got lucky on a Sunday lunchtime no line at 1pm.. but ordered 1/2 chicken rice and beans, the voice asked what sauces I would like. Also added fried yuca bites. I haven't been to a Pollo Tropical in YEARS! But I was in the area and hungry, so I stopped in, to take out. I ordered the Tropichop with pork, beans and yellow rice. I was watching as they grilled the chicken, and it looked much batter than I remembered it. The Tropichop was good: the yellow rice tasty fresh and hot, the black beans had a nice flavor. The pork was ok, but a bit too dry for me. I would try the grilled chicken next. I was waited on quickly and had my order within 5-10 minutes. It is also very clean inside. I will definitely come back to try the 1/4 or 1/2 chicken with rice and beans. It's a normal fast food ambiance, but everyone seemed to be enjoying their food. read more

A very busy location, but it was extremely easy to park and go inside to order. Barely waited 5 minutes for our order and we were able to eat inside. The dining area was clean as well as the location as a whole. Staff was friendly and greeted us. We were able to park, order, and eat before others finished the drive thru line. My boyfriend loved the chicken quesadilla/wrap. He could have easily eaten two. I enjoyed my tropichop bowl with yellow rice and veggies, grilled chicken, and sautéed onion. I don't know why I keep going back here. Years ago it was delicious. The people working there are lazy. The chicken breasts were all dried out and gross. Couldn't even eat it. Easy way to get a quick flame grilled chicken dinner for a reasonable price. It seems like the restaurant inside in not open for dine in but I did see people through the window ordering inside while I was in the drive thru line. There was a masked employee in the drive-thru line taking the order. He was efficient and pleasant. The line moved through to pay and pick up pretty fast. It is not touchless pay and if you pay buy cash, there is a note on the pay window that informs you there may not be coins returned as there is a coin shortage. I thought the family chicken meal was a good deal especially on the weekends as they discount the price. My order of a whole chicken actually had 3 wing/breast portions and 1 leg/thigh portion. It also came with a medium sized tub of white rice and black beans as well as 4 small dinner rolls. The rolls were soft and tasted a bit sweet like the Hawaiian rolls. They even put a generous amount of side sauces in the bag that we requested. I love their Polo Polo Hot sauce. It is hot at peppery. Mix it with the Garlic sauce and you get the best of both worlds in flavor! Next time I will try the Cuban Sandwich and their Chicken and Rice Croquettas on the seasonal special menu. The remodel looks nice but you need soap in the bathrooms and the drive-thru window server, should be eating food atop of the orders he's placing through the window. I get it that it's a super busy establishment... but after waiting 20 mins with ONE car in front of me, I place my order and specify white meat... super simple order, 1/4 white with a side salad. Get to the window after being in line for now 38 minutes, paid and made sure to ask "1/4 WHITE, right?"... I get home to 1/4 dark. How hard is it to get one job right?!!!! I've always driven by this location but never got to stop in. I used to love the Fort Lauderdale location. We needed something quick and fairly healthy so we stopped by to get lunch. There was a guy taking orders outside by the drive through which was pretty neat; a quick way to get the lines moving. I decided to get the quarter chicken with white rice and black beans plus the Pollo Pollo sauce. The food came out pretty fast and accurate. I made sure their famous and delicious Pollo Pollo sauce was in the bag. The portions were perfect; I was so hungry I didn't get to eat breakfast so this was my brunch essentially and it filled me up. The chicken was tender and moist; love the chicken skin. The Pollo Pollo sauce was like a spicy mayo but with garlic; so good, I could drink a tub of that. Mix the chicken, with the sauce, beans, and rice; it was excellent. Horrible and almost all of the locations have horrible reviews which let's you know this is an organizational systemic issue. Food: F - I can't think of anything I somewhat liked , I actually want a refund it was so bad. Service: F- I tried to go on their national website to complain about my experience, the "contact us" at the bottom of the page tells you that you need to "contact the individual location" which again further solidifies that customer service at a national level is NOT a priority. My experience: I did the drive thru , placed my order with one gentlemen, and drive up to the window where there was a female. 1- drive up process took forever 2- I gave her my cash and she yells at me "mommie didn't you read the sign when you ordered 'no cash' "! Yells ps Now IF I read that sign or even saw this "alleged sign" why would I be handing her cash???? Which I mentioned to her. Then she said "well didn't the guy who took your order mention it ?" AGAIN, makes no sense !!!! I responded to her "IF he had mentioned "only credit cards", do you think I would be handing you cash?"' I gave her my credit card, which works just fine ps, she charged my meal (almost $18) and I mentioned "this was the rudest service I have ever experienced ", she shrugged her shoulders and had nothing to say. Food was good but one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. We waited at the drive through many minutes and said hello many times, after driving around as we thought they may be closed we see the staff through the drive through socializing with the headset on. We parked and came in and still waited many minutes for the order to be taken. The entire staff seemed miserable and had a terrible attitude. I've always been a huge fan of Pollo Tropical. But I've been let down a lot. Especially this location. It's always busy. Cars lined up on the busy street. The parking lot is always packed. Customer service is great. But the latest meal I received was disgusting and very disappointing. I've had meals with burnt chicken. Fried yucca that has been inedible, because it was fried too long. This particular location was closed over a month due to health code violations. I drove up to the restaurant two days in a row and they had "NO WHITE RICE". What restaurant doesn't have one of their main side dishes? Then I get 1/4 chicken with rice and beans, and I don't have beans? The container was half full of water, and after I poured out all the water there was less than half the amount of black beans. After this happened I was over it. I won't be back. read more

We ordered delivery and were excited to receive lunch sooner then expected. Upon arrival bag felt a bit light but we sat to eat lunch. We realized we were missing a large side we ordered. We we opened our meals all meats were cold and very very dry. We received 1/4 of the sauces ordered. We attempted to enjoy our meals and simply could not so we disposed of it all. Moments later my wife, son and I all started getting very nauseous and after many visits to the restroom realized we could have gotten some sort of virus. We contacted delivery carrier they referred to restaurant directly. Much to my surprise, nobody answered. Surprisingly I was able to leave a voicemail, a voicemail lol, none the less never got a call back. I order from them very often. Sometimes I just don't know why. Only because it is always a hit or miss with them. Either the rice and beans are nasty or the chicken is more bones than meat. And the plantains are usually Greasy and burned . I think I may have gotten two times good plantains and as far as the chicken is concerned I sometimes receive raw or burned never consistent. read more
