I buy the pickled herring (in jars) bi-weekly. Their "Ukrainian" sausage is a 'STANDARD' Blood sausage (more fragrant when slices are fried) is a European and UK Midlands standard. I have been shopping here for years. I enjoy especially their bacon but love the pate and sandwich meats as well. In particular I love the turkey sausage. My wife is allergic to a lot of things especially pork so she gladly eats this turkey sausage along with her other fave, the blood tongue sandwich meat. She can be bought with that. Happy wife, happy life. It is typically much better quality than I have gotten anywhere and there is quite a variety of excellent kolbasas that I have been known to eat. I highly recommend this place. It may be due to a bit of Polish blood in my background, but it's mostly due to simply great sausage. The Polish people know how to make good sausage among other great foods, such as perogies, pickles and bread. As someone who loves a variety of sausage, I was glad to see the options here. You can also get cheese and other great deli products. I noticed pickled herring with onions, also a great find, as well as unique snacks. Everything is reasonably priced. I strongly recommend coming here for your deli needs. The service is really nice and you'll be satisfied with the selection. I love finding little cultural gems in the city. I'm Chinese and I love this place. Great smoked meat/sausages at very good prices. Been coming here to buy my European style cured meats for about 15 years now. Discovered it while tagging along with my Canadian then GF now wife shopping on E Hasting. Always buy more than what my wife wants me to buy. But as an American Born Chinese man who lived in Germany, I can't resist the authentic sausages which reminded me of my times living in Europe. I sometime not sure what I'm buying and just point and let the nice ladies wrap it up for me to take back to Tacoma to try. They always give me "bonus" sausages. Regardless what I ended up with, they compare well with the best Metzgerei in all of the places where I lived. By the way, Polina is located in one of my favorite area to shop for food. This place for Eastern European cured meats, Italian deli items next door, Pine House for Chinese pastries, Donald's for fresh local produce, and Neon for chineses veggies and BBQ. read more

Polonia Sausage House is a Polish family-owned grocery store, deli, and bakery -- located in Vancouver's 'East Village' (just east of Nanaimo St.). If you're looking for authentic Polish, and other east European foodstuffs - like homemade sausages, headcheese, frozen perogies, cheescakes, and a wide selection of dried, bottled, and canned products - this is 'the' neighbourhood place!! Our recent visit to the store was basically that, mostly a 'visit' to check it out, after doing lunch at a local restaurant. We were all too full from a great lunch to really be in-the-mood for serious shopping (though we did purchase a few sausages to take home to try), but we had seen the shop (and some Asian and other markets) on the way to the restaurant, and before leaving the area, wanted to give it (and them) a look-see as a future reference. We were sure glad that we did, as this store and the others we checked out (before we had to leave and get back to our parked car, before it was ticketed with a parking violation!!), are now definitely on a 'return-to' list for when we're in the area next (as is the whole 'East Village' area, which we found delightful!!). As with most places that sell freshly-made products, the aromas in the shop sure made looking around all the more pleasurable (whatever they were 'smoking' at the time sure smelled great!!). And the bakery products, which come in from a nearby bakery, despite our after lunch full feelings, sure looked appealing (have a feeling the next time we're there, a few pieces will go home with us!). We enjoyed this after lunch stop to the Polonia Sausage House - we will definitely budget more time to getting to know more when there next. read more

I love the sausages here (smoked, not raw like Italian ones). Also the Polish Smoked Bacon and the Smoked Chicken Leg (just rip the fat part off as you eat). They gave us 3 free sausages (worth maybe $5) when we bought $20. Not sure if it's a usual or special offer. The Yelp questionnaire on the business seems to indicate that this is categorized as a eat-in place. It's not. It's a little deli counter and some rows of other European foods to buy. I'll make a special detour to get Polish sausages from Polonia. It's the best of the three Polish delis in town, with excellent selection of smoked bacon, ham, pork hocks, and sausages. They're on a par with, but cheaper than Oyama Sausage Company (Granville Island). Like others said, there is the chatter between babcia and wujek, but this lets you know you're in the right place. A couple of years ago, they merged with the bakery and now offer Polish treats as well. Go for their jelly-filled donuts for a tasty change from Timmy's. With the sausages and donuts, you're halfway there to your picnic. All that's left to do is go next door to the Italian deli and you'll be set. read more

BBQ? You've come to the right place. Everyone in here speaks Polish, including the customers. I love Polish sausage, and there are several different kinds in here, along with other meats and an unexpected donut counter. Every time I've been in here, I feel like I'm paying the "English-speaking price", I was definitely overcharged the first time for 3 links instead of just 2, and last time was just arbitrary. I don't mind, though, because I know these meats are fresher, better tasting, and still cheaper than what I would get at the supermarket. Authentic, good quality and delicious deli meats and breads. This is my favourite place for authentic hams, cured meats and Polish sausage. They have a great selection. Best selection of brine pickles. Some of the baked goods are pretty good too. Their doughnuts are delish and so is the poppy-seed cake. I am not fan of the cheesecakes...but I am pretty spoiled by homemade. The ladies who work there are amazing! read more

I'm here from Washington visiting friends, and finding Polonia's was like hitting the Vancouver lottery! I could have been in there for hours, but the line was too long (people very patiently waiting to place their orders); so after I tasted what the two people behind me were getting as my order was being wrapped (and ordered some of what those people were getting as well) I figured I better scoot, and come back the next day on my way home. The aroma when you walk in the door reminds me of Steinberg's in Montreal. I love the smell of smoked meats and sausages. I found schav liquid mix in a jar. It's heaven to eat schav cold on a hot summer day. The staff are polite but I know they don't enjoy the smoked meat smell all day. They do the smoking and curing in the store. They also sell Lisc saurkraut. The best natural probiotic on the planet. No preservatives. The borscht liquid soup concentrate in a jar is also heaven. Make your own beet-based borscht and then add this liquid concentrate. It makes for super borscht. My health has improved from the super borscht ( with lemon and dill added to knock my Crocs off!) read more

Great food with some of the worst service I've ever gotten anywhere. Once a while back, I went in and the clerk was on the phone and she just kept on yacking and ignored me so I just walked out. RUDE. This time, I went in and ordered the panceata, and asked for 200 grams and she cut a piece and said 'is 300 ok?' I said 'well not really, I asked for 200'. She said 'it's hard to cut that much. I took it begrudgingly but I should have told her to stick it where the sun don't shine. But hey, I asked for panceata, I got it. I get in the car and I look at it and it is actually 318 grams. My questions is simple: How come I go to Whole Paycheck (I meant Whole Foods) and order 200 grams of Roast Beef and the dude pulls off 201 grams measuring only once? Enough said, I ain't going to take a trip out to Polania anymore. Can't stand this attitude though the food has always been top shelf. read more

What a great place and neighbourhood gem. I would argue that it is the best Polish deli in Vancouver. If you're ever around try any of their sausage......you'll never go back to the commercial mass produced ones that you'll find in a lot of the chain stores. My girlfriend is Polish and got me addicted to the Pączki (pronounced Ponch-key.....I think..) anyway they are jelly donuts and a really nice break from Timmy's mass produced stuff. If you're too lazy to cook borsch yourself a lot of their powdered ones are actually surprisingly good for instant food. All in all a great place! read more

A Polish deli which has a wide assortment of deli meats, olives, cheeses, and perishables. We ended up picking up some olives and some Schick speck (polish smoked bacon) which was excellent. Very clean deli, small but has a wide variety of near things to eat. read more
