I have been enjoying Mica Talmor's ( owner of former BaBite restaurant and recently opened Pomella restaurant) food for years. The food, or better described as culinary creations, is fantastic! Creative take on Israeli/ middle Eastern cuisine, filled with flavors that makes you palate sing. From a selection of mezze, small plates appetizers , to main courses and amazing desserts. Everything taste soooo good and wakes up your taste buds! Today I tried the falafel wrap, and as i was ooing and awing with every bite, I was taken back to my home land of israel, where you can find falafel stands on every street corner, but, not all falafel wraps are created equal, and Pomella's is way up there with the best of them. Just a final note about the desserts- best cheesecake ever, best milky and panna cotta ever! I drive to Oakland at least ones a week to " get my fill" of fantastic middle Eastern delights! Quality of the ingredients seemed great, but the food itself was bland. Needed a lot more herbs and lemon to pick it up. My Israeli husband agreed. Hot sauce was extra $2-4, which is insane when we only needed it because the food itself was so bland. Additionally felt a little excessive to pay such high prices plus tip, to be expected to bus our own table. Perhaps it's just inflation, but it felt kinda like highway robbery. read more

Unexceptional and overpriced. I had the chicken rice plate, which consisted of six small bite size pieces of chicken on top of a large bowl of rice, drenched with tahini. GF got the lamb sirloin, which was equally light on protein, and equally unexceptional. You have to pay for hot sauce. We got the harissa ($4!!!). It was bitter and not particularly spicy. Since discovering Pomella, I have about a weekly craving for it. Delivery or eat in, it's one of my favorite meals in the east bay. Deeeeelicious! This new outpost is every bit as delicious as Ba-Bite was. If you like mediterranean food like soft and chewy, homemade pita bread, pomegranate eggplant, and fresh crispy salads, then Pomella is for you! Earlier this year when we were looking for healthy take-out options due to and my son discovered Pomella. He is vegetarian and is always looking for inventive dishes/menus. The food here is so tasty & healthy and and we have since tried several wonderful new dishes. I like the fact that there are usually some seasonal or new items in addition to the basic ones. I also get the email newsletter which is great and lets me know when something new is being offered. This is not a full service restaurant, but great for take-out or for a casual meal. read more

Nani, the dessert chef has some really interesting inspired desserts - guava cake - unbelievable, passionfruit coconut cake, salted caramel chocolate cake, too. One of our favorite spots in the neighborhood! Absolutely love the variety & flavors in all the dishes. The mezzes are perfect shareable appetizers - cauliflower & brussels sprouts mezzes were our favs. For our meals, we've shared or had our own wraps and plates. The lamb sirloin & kefta is our go-to. There's an amazing variety in drinks too from yemeni iced coffee to spritzers and iced teas. It's the best place to bring family/friends who are visiting. We got some food to go during the shut down. We got Majadra Plate in beef kafka and a hummus plate. The majadra with rice and lentils is so flavorful especially with fried onions. The beef kafka was pretty good too. My companion said the hummus was average but the pickles are excellent. read more

Pretty good Mediterranean/ middle eastern food. We grew up with authentic middle eastern cooking, so the bar is high. I think the food was decently good in general, the couple of items I was excited by and would go back for us the cheese falafel and the lady finger baklava. Really good salads with add-on options. I stopped in here for a quick solo lunch and the process to order and sit is super easy and very clean. The staff quickly cleans tables once you wrap up your meal. Indoor/outdoor seating and tasty homemade beverages like spa water with cucumber. The place feels very cozy and warm. Fantastic Local + Organic Produce Box! We got a produce box today from Pomella and it was OUTSTANDING! All locally-grown and organic, and all the items were in great condition! Box included kale, spinach, chard, green leaf lettuce, 1lb each of strawberries and grapes, two ears of corn, four enormous peaches, two huge nectarines, two plums, two heirloom tomatoes, a head of broccoli, an avocado, two zucchini, a bunch of huge carrots, two blood oranges, and two huge lemons - all for $50!!! I have ordered takeout from Pomella three times in the last few weeks, with another pickup today. The food is all fresh and delicious, and the contactless pickup is very smooth. The hummus has become a household favorite (and our neighbor's favorite, too). I'm a huge fan of the Beet Ras El Hanout, which is so flavorful. I eat it plain or on pita or tossed with salad greens. The shakshuka is also fantastic to have on hand for a hearty breakfast. There's much to like. Clearly, everything is made with love and care. I've enjoyed Pomella in the past but likely won't be returning. This time ordered the chicken hummus plate and cauliflower. The portions were smaller than I remembered for the price. The chicken was bland. Hummus was good but only came with two small pitas. They brought us falafel instead of cauliflower. I like falafel, but we mentioned it to the person who brought our food and he never followed up. I understand they aren't waiters, but it was awkward. Also never brought utensils, had to ask. There is much better value elsewhere. Sad Pomella is out for me. read more

From the Ba-Bite people, a simple but delicious Mediterranean menu. The hummus is creamy and perfectly seasoned. The pitas are freshly made - soft, pillowy, great with the hummus and toppings. My lamb sirloin hit the spot and was enough for two meals. The pickles are a nice touch. This is a great spot for folks looking for a safe outdoor dining space during the current Covid restrictions. I was a fan of Mica Talmor's Babite and was so sad it closed. In total denial, I checked back at least three different times before I finally accepted it closed. I was ecstatic when Mica announced she was re-opening as Pomella with the same amazing food. But then right before the scheduled opening... COVID-19. Not to be deterred, Mica provided curb-side pickup. Thank goodness! I have tried almost everything on the menu, including traditional Passover food, and I love it all! The food is fresh and flavors bright. I have to say though, hummus is THE best I've ever had and very addicting!! I have done blind tastings with 5 other store brands and there is no comparison. It makes me happy to eat Pomella's food. And we all deserve to be happy. I can't wait for Pomella to open. The murals and artwork are beautiful. Thank you, Mica!! read more

I am thrilled that Pomella has opened as the latest incarnation of the former hugely popular restaurant Ba-Bite. The food is incredibly delicious - fresh and nutritious. I know that Mica, the owner, puts a lot of love and care into her recipes. I especially love the hummus, beet salad, and falafel dishes, and her desserts, such as rugulach, are beyond compare. I can't say enough about this wonderful restaurant - so glad that the chef/owner of the former BaBite was able to open a new place! Everything on the menu is delicious! Fresh and full of flavor! The flavors were good and the ingredients were fresh, but the wrap was a sloppy mess. The lafa wrap is very thin and the filling and sauce are very wet. It just disintegrates. They also wrapped it in foil instead of paper or paper and foil, so the wrap sticks to the foil and comes off in soggy shreds when you try to unwrap it. For roughly $23 after tax and tip you'd think they could at least master making a wrap that can be eaten as such. Cute branding won't save you if you can't get the basics right. read more

The place is cute but the food was underwhelming. We got the salmon majadara plate and the Brussels sprouts. The rice in the salmon plate was very dry and the salmon had bones in it. The Brussels sprouts were good but the portion was small. Overall, save your money and go somewhere with real Mediterranean food. read more
