Definitely love Pomelo. I came back to order lunch ($10 menu!) - total came out to a total of $12.63. The dude behind the cash was kinda a dick when I came to pick it up. The female waitress was so friendly but she was obviously busy. The guy sitting RIGHT behind the cash said something in Mandarin to her so I didn't understand, got up and walked away so she can come and take my money. I ordered the #2. Black bean sauce with beef and rice + wonton soup to go. I got back to my work and the soup was still hot (yay) and 3 wontons floating around (chicken not pork) but got super salty at the end. The black bean sauce was delicious. There was a sufficient amount of beef in the dish along with veggies - once again, I'd like to see more Chinese vegetables instead of peppers :[ I ate half of it and got way too full (and I didn't even eat breakfast). I'm going to take the rest home to eat tonight. Once again, this doesn't compare to the food out in Markham but it's the only passable "authentic" Chinese food in Burlington AND Hamilton. read more

I came here with my family and friends. They were able to accommodate our fairly large party of 7. They have comfortable booth seats. The waitress was efficient and gave us water and tea to start. They also have bubble tea! We ordered mostly Chinese dishes and it came quickly and hot. The stand out for me is the ox tail stew with a tomato based flavor. I could eat the whole dish with rice and not get sick of it. The sweet and sour pork is phenomenal. And try the crispy chicken! We also got a medley of veggie dishes and stir fried beans. The owner came out and asked us how we liked everything -- very friendly guy. Consider coming here for dinner instead of another cookie cutter buffet/chain restaurant. Food quality is good, but their customer service is ATROCIOUS. Called in for a delivery, specifying we lived in Hamilton (albeit the border of Hamilton and Burlington). Asked to give credit card number to pay in advance (a big no-no for me usually, but it saved getting cash out). One hour later, we received a call from the driver saying he was five minutes away. 20 minutes and 5 calls later, we'd deduced he'd gone to the wrong street in Burlington. He swore he'd be at my place in 10 minutes. 25 minutes later (we're now into hour two of waiting) I received a call from the restaurant saying 'You live too far, we're not delivering to you'. Ok, what about the food? 'Oh, we cancelled the order' ok, but I've paid already, so what now? 'Oh you paid? I guess you can come get it...*click' 12 minutes later, I arrived at the restaurant, signed my bill, and started to ask about the situation when the woman at the counter turned and walked away. Food was good, but not worth the nonsense it took to get it. We will never be coming back here. Eat in if you want. read more

Just ok for Pho soup! Chicken fried rice tastes is good. I had the chicken pho soup and there wasn't a lot of chicken (just some shredded chicken) compared to other pho soup places. The broth was just "ok" with other places the broth is tasty and has some colour, here it's just clear. They give you a big bowl and lots of noodles however more chicken would be better. First of all, you really cannot compare this restaurant with the ones in GTA. But in Burlington, i really cannot complain for the quality offered and they are reasonably priced - and hence the 4 stars if you live in the area in my opinion. Having family and friends in Hamilton means I will be in Hamilton at times and finding good chinese food is a challenge sometimes. And this place is actually a good option as it's not too far from Hamilton. My relative recommend this place and I do like it. The food is prepared in a way that typical Chinese should find them "authentic" or real chinese food. And the price are not crazily expensive in comparing to some restaurant in Hamilton. And if you have some dishes that you particularly like to eat but not offered on the menu, you can try to ask them and they will try their best to do it for you (like steam fish). This options is probably best if you give them advance notice but no guarantee they will do this for you 100% though. This is a good plus because the kitchen do know how to make chinese food in my opinion. read more

Mushy fried rice , inedible spare ribs as they were chewy , gummy and just FOUL . Spring rolls have no filling at all and soaked in oil. Then their Thai dumplings we couldn't even attempt to eat because they were flavourless soggy and overall disgusting . This restaurant is horrible honestly . I recently bought a Wag Jag for this restaurant, so thought we would try it out. We went on a Friday night and called before arriving. We were easily accommodated. The restaurant was fairly busy. The restaurant was clean - it is set up as an open space, so if you are not in a booth, you don't get much privacy. The menu had a good selection of Thai - not much on the Vietnamese side, which was disappointing. I settled on Pad Thai, which was just ok. Price wise, it was a good deal with the Wag Jag coupon. I don't think we'll be back to this one, mostly because there are so many options for Thai and Vietnamese food in Burlington and Oakville and the other restaurants we have tried to date have better quality food. read more

First time eating in Thai in Canada and I was impressed. Excellent food/service.

This place has a change of ownership about 1.5 years ago although the name and store sign are still the same. The new owner is the Chef. Since then I have dined there several times and have been quite impressed. Authentic Chinese food is available if you asked for them. The chef most famous dish is the lobster. He can cook the same lobster in numerous ways on request, using different parts of the lobster. Pre-order is a must. Also love their Crispy Chicken Chinese Style, which is moist and tasty. Yellow Fin Grouper filet is also delicious. If we want to go light, we usually order the Shredded Pork Chow Mein, or Beef Ho-Fen. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Definitely a neighbour gem to be discovered. Ask for their private room for family reunion or if you have a big group. read more

Had crab meat and fish maw soup... my family loved it. The food overall was cooked very well and reasonably priced. The interior is pleasant but noticed immediately the leather chairs needed to be replaced or reupholstered. If I'm in the area it is worthy of another visit. read more

We have been in South Burlington for more than 10 years and there has never been an authentic Chinese restaurant. We would frequently travel into west Mississauga (Perfect Kitchen, Summit Garden, more recently Blue Lagoon) for anything that resembled Chinese food. I tried Pomelo for lunch today based on some of the more recent Yelp reviews and found that the Chinese noodles were pretty good... and more importantly fresh. I plan to return and explore the dinner dishes and hope we have found a decent local authentic Chinese spot. A similar spot would be K W BBQ Kitchen in Hamilton, minus the bbq. read more

Went to Pomelo on the weekend expecting the usual excellence, was disappointed to see new wait staff and difference general atmosphere. Spoke to one of the servers, it has been under new ownership for "a couple months". We decided to eat there anyway, as they still serve the original menu in addition to a new "Asian" menu. The food was poor, and the presentation was poor. For anyone that loved Pomelo before, I am sorry to say that the new owners have failed to duplicate what was a fantastic restaurant. I ordered one Pho beef soup today. I always order Pho soup from Pomelo. As I was in hurry i did not check ( well i trusted them as always) everything is in there. When i got home i have no cutlery, no red/ hoisin sauce and no bean sprouts. All I have is very salty soup, noodle and meat. I always expected to have those for complete my Pho. So when i called and their answer was they don't include these stuff?!! They also said you have to ask cutleries. Are you kidding? Am I dreaming? I always have these before. What kind of soup is that if they dont have these included?!!! I can forgive if they forgot. I will never order again! read more

I also found this place through Wagjag. It's tucked away on Fairview, not far from Burlington Mall. It was mostly empty when we were there (though we were early). The server was very friendly and attentive. Since we had Wagjag credit, I thought we should buy something more (since restaurants lose money through Wagjag). We ordered the dumplings with hot peanut sauce. Oh my goodness... That sauce! We loved it. I cleaned the plate off and wished I had more. I'm always looking for more Pad Thai and this one did not disappoint. The sauce was more tomato-based than others I have tried so it gave it a unique flavour. The portion size was excellent. My wife had the golden curry with chicken. She loved it. I'm not a big fan of curry dishes but I tasted it and thought it was excellent (a smooth and creamy taste). I'm planning to introduce some friends to Pomelo tomorrow. Can't wait! read more

The food quality is just not as good since this place is under new management. The menu is almost the same as before, but you can easily tell it is cooked by different people and they are not doing it right. we are so disappointed and we gonna stop going in the future. read more

We ordered food like we often do from this restaurant. We picked it up and when we got home they had given us the incorrect order. We called and the lady on the phone was not very accommodating. They agreed to deliver new food,after much discussion, but we are still waiting after 1 hour. We called to see the status of our order and they said another 20-30 min. I asked for a refund and they refused. They said they don't care about reviews and we can say what we want. An error happens but good customer service would have made us continue our visits. I ordered the Green Curry Chicken. My friend had the Red Curry Shrimp - includes pineapple which she really likes. We have both travelled and eaten extensively in Asia. This is AS GOOD AS ANY Thai restaurant overseas. (maybe better - because the initial quality of meats, etc., is usually higher in Canada). Portions were very generous, the curry was good and spicy with plenty of garlic, and the service was prompt and friendly. This place should be packed every night. BRAVO POMELO! read more

Burlington is not known for good Chinese (Canadian) food, at least not when compared to that little rural, in the middle of nowhere, Chinese restaurant I once found near Goderich, Ontario a few years ago, run by 3rd Gen Chinese whose family have be making Canadian Chinese food for at least 2 centuries. With that in mind... Pomelo is the pretty much the best of the best in Burlington. Their Sweet & Sour chicken is excellent, with a nicely battered chicken that keeps a well defined tasty crunch, despite being bathed in tasty sauce. The pineapple chunks were a tad large and dominated the taste buds in a mouth full, but that's nit-pickin. Now... despite the ace-in-the-hole that was the sweet & sour chicken... the hardest Chinese Canadian dish to deliver is a beef or pork fried rice, properly seasoned, oils, spices, etc. Done properly, such a pork or beef fried rice dish is the most memorable thing you can have at an Asian restaurant. That being said.. Pomelo's beef fried rice is "okay". It's not as good as similar beef/pork fried rice dishes found at many Thai-food-only dedicated restaurants, but Pomelo's offering is still leagues better than the horse-feed you get at places like Blossom City, which I wouldn't feed to a pen of swine if they were on their last hooves and beggin' for it. The one thing I didn't like about the Pomelo beef fried rice was that their beef pieces in the rice, despite being thick, large, and plentiful, seemed to have been pre-boiled only (definitely not pan fried) and as a result had a slight, noticeable fishy taste which was an absolute turn off. So while Pomelo screwed up the EASIEST part in the preparation of beef fried rice, it was still satisfactory. read more
