I have been on a number of trips with other charters. I have had some good stories and horror ones. Danny definitely ranks as one of the best. Good conversation and very helpful throughout the trip. It was apparent early that his goal is to get me to catch fish. We used live bait and artificial trying to find the best setup for what was biting at the time. I have been out on other trips where the guide will use the live and run out early. He never used the shrimp and let me use it as I wanted. I've also shown up being promised live shrimp from a guide, but he only brought dead shrimp (big difference in cost but I paid the same amount). Also another thing gave him some extra points is that he doesn't care one bit if I got snagged. He says "if you don't get snags, then you're not fishing!", which is a big relief as I've been with other guys that get pissed about having to re-tie your line. Will definitely be back again but next time...KAYAK FISHING here I come!

This is a neat little roadside park you've probably never noticed or even heard about…read more Now you have. You're welcome. In South Louisiana you're never far from the swamp. That fact is quite evident when you're driving along I-55 through St. John the Baptist (my patron saint) Parish. Though I've driven this road before, I've been driving it more often and started to pay attention. One of the neat facts about this roadway is that unlike many elevated interstates in LA, there is an old state road that runs below the highway. That's how I discovered this park. This park, located at the foot of the old Manchac bridge, has a beautiful view of I-55 above and of Lake Maurepas. There are picnic tables, a gravel parking lot, and a sign that let me know this was a real park. It's a great spot to stop and ponder your place in the world, eat lunch, or just stare out at the lake looking for alligators. If you're headed down 51 and see me sitting there, please don't bother me. If you're headed down 51 and notice it's empty (every time I've seen it), feel free to stop for a bit and enjoy the view.

There is a small memorial area that runs along Sgt Alfred Drive. It consists of some benches in a half circle under some trees and a short walkway leading to a semi circle of seven flags representing all the branches of service around a pillar type structure and granite plaque honoring all of the veterans and their sacrifices. It catches your eye as you are driving down the street. The tennis area, named the Henry J. Calamari Memorial Tennis Center, is decent and consist of 6 tennis courts that are in decent shape. The courts are lighted and the lights seem to come on automatically and stay on until late at night. The baseball field, named after Carl Hickman, has seen better days and could use some TLC. It is lighted, like the tennis courts. This is an alright park. Outside of tennis, baseball, or the memorial, there is not much to the park. I do not seeing spending much time there or making it a destination stop unless you have a tennis matchThe memorial appears to be well maintained, but the other parts could use a little help.
