This is an unpretentious, small motel in a very rural community. We stayed there mostly because they are pet friendly and accept big dogs. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. I loved that breakfast was real eggs and real potatoes (among other selections), not powdered stuff like some more expensive places serve. The web site said "please don't use our white bed covers for dog blankets, ask at the desk for a dedicated dog blanket. I thought that odd, but then found the room was uncarpeted, and the floor was cold. The dog couldn't get to sleep on it. So we got one of their blankets -- which was nicer than any I would give my dog. Happy with the place. read more

Slept like a baby. * Solid Wi-Fi * Freezer compartment in the fridge. * AC outlets in the parking area for adding some miles to my car. The people here are great! The rooms are very simple but clean and the air conditioning is excellent. I just moved my elderly dad from Goldendale to California. I extended my reservation so my dad had a cool place to stay during a major heatwave before I arrived to get him. The manager Tina was so nice and checked on him periodically. The housekeeper, Ryan?, was also so nice. The free breakfast is very good- with hot and cold options and the dining room was very clean. read more

This was recommended by a family member. I wasn't sure what to expect due to past experiences with motels We had a long bad day of travel and the owner who does the front desk was amazing. We were not going to arrive until the wee hours of the morning. He waited up to ensure we arrived from our flight into Yakima. Let us know he had our room ready. It was easy to find. We were able to get keys fast. When we got to our room it was all warmed up and cozy. It's the same feeling you get when you come home from a long trip. It was nice to crawl into a comfy bed. Their kitchenettes was modern and pristine. They provided more towels than standard hotels. Which was a bonus They provide more than a traditional continental breakfast. This family owned business and their staff make you feel welcome and do everything to ensure your comfort. We will definitely stay there again. read more

Sadly, the curtains were not hung properly and the whole rod with curtains fell down on the right when trying to close them upon settling into room at night. They fixed it with zipties for the night, and a big clip to make the two panels of curtains come together. The backsplash in the kitchen had been torn off the wall and never replaced - so open, torn wallboard was all that remained. No hangers on the clothes rack. The single bathroom outlet did not work. Breakfast hours were not what the front desk stated, with non-English speaking cook cutting food off one hour early. No room service - and when that was pointed out, they did come but only emptied one of the two garbages. No bathmat was provided so had to step out of shower onto slippery floor or use one of the two small hand towels on the floor. They managed to put a bath mat in the room one morning, then it promptly disappeared. Snippy front desk staff. I guess she got tired of fixing things. read more

Great value motel. Better amenities in the suite that I stayed in than "5-star" hotels in Portland which were over twice the price (discounted!). Great morning breakfast available every day. Basic, good and very much worth staying here. A good base to work out of to go explore the surrounding areas. Manager lives on site (Tina) and was efficient and friendly. Facilities are in good repair and functional though some of the smaller fit and finish items could use some attention. Really rates 4 and a half stars but that not an option here. read more

I made reservations to stay at the Ponderosa Motel last week. When we arrived it was getting dark, and the front office was locked, so we rang the bell and waited. Nobody came. We called and rang the doorbell continuously...nobody came. I knocked on the door behind the office, where I figured the person working stays. No answer. Another couple came and tried, as well. We waited in the dark for an hour, which was kinda unsafe feeling at that time of night, and we were exhausted from driving. Finally, thinking maybe the employee or owner had a heart attack or something, we called the police. They came and entered the back door. The dude was sleeping or passed out and not answering. After the police left, it took him another 15 minutes to come to the office and he never said a word about it or apologized. So weird and unprofessional. Had we not called the police, we likely would have been with nowhere to stay. Do not book this hotel. read more

The room was clean and neat. The breakfast was hearty. The wifi worked. My only complaints are plumbing issues: 1. the hot and cold water pipes to the sink were reversed. That is, when you turn the water valve to the right, you expect cold water. The bathtub was correctly plumbed, but the sink was backwards. I mentioned it to the front desk when we checked out. He said he would fix it, but I did not sense any conviction. 2. The hot water temperature was way hotter than is safe. read more

Comfortable, clean, small town friendly and amazing family- and group-sized rooms for a great price. The bed was comfortable and we had a family room with 3 queens plus 2 twin bunk beds. The breakfast room is across the parking lot. The coffee is always fresh and the continental breakfast includes just cracked eggs, breakfast sausage, biscuits and sausage gravy and a waffle iron and fixings. Not much for fresh fruit or cereal. Parking was easy. Nice place. I will be back - often. read more

Stayed here as a family of three. The room was clean and cozy. The breakfast area was also very clean and the food was tasty and varied. Finally, Tina at the front desk left our son a special note when she heard we were here for his birthday to see the Observatory. He felt really special. This Place has all the things that you would find in a hotel that cost twice as much. The rooms are clean and large for a place of this vintage new TVs and refrigerators (a lot of pricy places don't) and a nicely located clean parking lot. It's a little weird how you have to go across to lot to get breakfast but no worries it only rains 10" annually here. Oh, and the how can you not love that awesome neon sign? read more

Foggy road conditions resulted in our stopping in Goldendale, WA, without a reservation on December 26, 2023, within 3 hours of home under normal conditions. Goldendale has two 'exits' from US 97. We went in the north entrance, drove through town and decided to stop at the Ponderosa just before leaving town at the south exit. It looked well maintained. Christmas decorations welcomed us at check-in. The woman at front desk was so friendly. I asked for two beds. What she assigned actually had two beds, in different bedrooms, plus a full kitchen! We were carrying home left-overs from Christmas, so this was perfect for us. Breakfast the next morning was way better than we had expected. It had hot gravy and biscuits, waffles, cereal, fruit, sweet rolls, milk, juice, and yogurt. I might have forgotten some things. What had started with a stressful weather day, turned out better than fine. More fog again, but we drove on home. Thanks so much. read more

On my annual father/son road trip we decided to stay the night in Goldendale. I had based this on the great reviews seen here. Unfortunately the hotel did not live up to my expectations in customer service. 1) stopped by earlier in the day (2pm) but there was noone around. Waited about 15 min but finally went off to see our sites on the gorge. 2) When we did check in, we were given a room right next to the only other guest in the hotel on a Sunday night. Why couldn't they space every other? I could hear the conversation of our neighbors at 11pm when trying to go to sleep. My summary is to keep driving. An awesome little place is down the road in Rufus Hillview. Or a plethora of better options in The Dalles. I was just disappointed with this offering and want to warn others! read more

We stayed here in mid-May, 2014. We stayed two nights, Saturday and Sunday. First off, I felt the room was clean. The bed linens were reasonably soft, and white (no yellowing or stains). The bathroom was similarly clean, with a mixture of new towels and some older. All smelled fresh and were the right color for well laundered motel linens. There was a kitchenette in our room which was older, but I wouldn't have been concerned cooking or eating in there (BTW, I DO recommend planning ahead for meals as the hours in town are kind of bizarre). There was a flat screen TV, but (in our room at least) the picture was terrible. I recommend this motel to anyone who comes to visit. read more

Clean rooms, decently priced, and waffles!! Arrived late at night after having our car towed in to the repair shop across the street. Was promptly checked in by the owners son who recommended hitting up the grocery store down the street for food if we were hungry. Very thankful that everything was clean and we'll kept. TV, mini fridge, and microwave for some late night microwave dinners was a bonus. The continental breakfast wasn't bad, how can you go wrong with waffles; wasn't gourmet by any means but free and accessible and everything was edible. The walls are thin and it is by no means a nice new hotel, but it is much nicer than expected, and it is very clean and very well kept read more

It's sad really, this use to be such a good place to vacation, but this last stay, and I do mean the LAST stay was disappointing on so many fronts. To start off, the rooms we reserved in January for our July trip, we didn't get them. The manager told us, "oh, I didn't realize you needed 2 rooms". So, we didn't get the kitchenette we reserved. The first day, we didn't get our room turned down. The next day the maid, was very upset, and stopped by and asked "what would you like me to do? You want towels, the garbage taken out? The bed made?" How about yes! Do your job! The rooms we got did not have comfortable beds, there are bugs coming out of the drains in the shower, the diverter valve in one of the showers was broken. No water pressure in the shower. As for the continental breakfast, it was a 0! The eggs were grey, the biscuits were doughy the sausage was burnt, and to top it off the "cook" stuck his fingers in the butter to remove a contaminate and said "there, all better". We use to come here every other year, and the old owner was great! This new manager, and his staff leave a lot to be desired. If you're going to stay here, be prepared for disappointment. read more

Sadly a poor experience. Pubic hair all over the beds and toilet. Beer left in the fridge( I have 3 small children so not ok). And here I am 2 hours later still waiting for it to be cleaned. Was a little nervous on this being the last stay on a week long trip...preconceived notion that it sounded like a dive just good for a nights sleep. COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG. A/C, HBO (so i could catch up on my Game of Thrones) clean room, good sized bathroom, free breakfast (not just milk, fruit and cereal..but eggs and sausage too!) While not a "Four Star Hotel", I'm giving this one 4 stars because it is above & beyond expectations for this category of lodging. Don't let the outward appearance and lack of a national brand name fool you: inside are immaculately clean, well-maintained rooms with plenty of details to make your stay comfortable: - A mini fridge and microwave, plus coffee maker, coffee, sugar, creamer ... all in "real size" containers (not hotel mini portions). - Washroom (bathtub, shower, toilet) separate from sink & vanity area, with ample space for two people brushing their teeth at the same time. - TV with plenty of channels, if you end up staying in - Comfy firm mattresses, and one of my favorites for hotels: cotton blankets (which makes for a much more well-controlled sleeping temperature, though they're pricier than the polyester). - Table & 2 armchairs, and lots of dresser space if you're staying awhile, plus an assortment of hangers for different types of clothes - Quiet setting; enough to open the windows at night for fresh air. - Walking distance to the supermarket, if you'd rather eat in; also very near restaurants. - The nonsmoking rooms don't smell like there has EVER been smoke in them; nor are there the usual stale hotel smells, mildew, or crazy scented stuff. - Did I mention clean? I used to work in housekeeping at a pricey bed & breakfast, and *never* see even high-end hotel rooms that quite make the grade of cleanliness & effort in maintaining as I saw here. Yes there are some quirks in the way old is patched together with new, but none that keep the room from being unsafe, unsanitary, or otherwise unpleasant. I believe I saw that there is free Wi-Fi, and there are chairs on the outdoor walkways for smokers or lingerers. I heard no noise from other units or -- thanks to genuine solid wood doors -- from the outdoors. My traveling companion mentioned that some "national brand" lodging is nearby, but costs a lot more. I was very impressed by the Ponderosa. The price was similar to what I pay in Seattle to stay at a Motel 6, that lacks microwave, bathtub, water pressure, real glasses for water, decent mattresses, adequate towels ... but it was cleaner and more well cared for than a Motel 6, with a lot more perks. read more

Clean , safe, and bright rooms at an affordable price wins this place a four star rating from this frequent traveler. We went out to the area looking for real estate and had a deal in the works with offers and counterfoffers. Got caught in a storm on the way back home and spent the night there. After checking in late, we needed to print, copy, scan and send documents back in a tight turn around. The young gentleman who checked us in saw to it that our needs were met and even double-checked that the documents were accurate and sent. What a replied. We slept well knowing we didn't have to drive through the storm and that we all our documents done! The free continental breakfast was a great send off the next day! read more
