Hard to believe that I'm the first to review a course that's been around for decades. Yes, the…read morelocation is a bit off the beaten path, but it's only 20 minutes northwest of the 394/494 interchange. This is a relatively flat course with the exception of the Par 3 third hole, where you have to dial-in the downhill tee shot to avoid going long into the marsh. There's a long water carry on the mid-length Par 3 13th, and a touchy 70-yard carry of a pond fronting the Par 5 15th. The other small ponds shouldn't be in play, unless you play like me where anything is possible on any given day. Stay out of the trees that line the longer holes and you can shoot a good score, although many of the moderately-fast greens are subtly contoured. I've played rounds here in the early spring (you think you can go through the trees, but don't try it; greens may be spray-painted!); summer (they do a good job keeping the course watered); and fall (they could do a better job of clearing out fallen leaves so you can find your ball in the first cut). During the week the pace of play has been pretty good. There's a nice snack bar adjacent to the small pro shop that offers grilled food and cold beer, among other items. The staff has proven very friendly and helpful. Carts are in good shape, and they offer the cool, quick "golf bikes" for singles. Large putting/chipping green next to the first tee, and another very contoured one on the other side of the first tee on your way to the range. Range balls weren't great the last time I practiced there. While there are a fair amount of golf courses you can choose to play in the western suburbs, Pheasant Acres Golf Club should be on your list to consider.

Tee times are spaced 10 minutes apart so generally everybody keeps up but it would be nice to have more ranger management on the weekends. Honestly, if you're going to play this course smart, you're going to use an iron or wood more than your driver. The back 9 is along the River, but the front 9 is, in everyone else's fairway. The course is beautiful, minus the sand traps on the green, and the obvious murk that will haunt your wayward balls. If you're looking for a good Groupon that will try your game, this is your spot. If you're looking for a challenging course but don't have the Groupon, spend your money elsewhere. To give you a reference, kids, and at a minimum 3 of them, were driving around the course while were attempting to hit on 3 holes. The greens, beautiful, but god bless you if you miss them. In a long shot, I'll certainly be back because of the difficulty and how close it is to the cities. But I'll never expect it to be 5/5 given the amount repairs that have have never been fixed, that there is a sand trap on a green.

I walked 18 holes on a Friday morning early. I didn't have a tee time since I was a single, but…read morewas able to tee off right away. There were a few people in front of me, but the pace of play was fantastic with minimal waiting. No one can complain about 18 holes in under 3 hours! The course is looking better and better every year. All of the bunkers have new sand in them which I made sure to try out four different times to have a thorough review ;). The greens rolled true and had decent speed. There are a few unique holes on this course that require some strategy and shot making to do well. It definitely isn't wide open and there is a lot of potential to lose balls. There are also a few holes that are lined with houses on one side or the other. The typically don't come into play unless you hit a very poor shot. If you are a decent golfer, this is a really fun course. If you have trouble getting the ball in the air regularly, this would be very very frustrating. The only negative is that the bugs were bad. I would suggest taking some bug spray with you. There were two holes on the front nine that are quite damp, and I thought I was going to be carried away by the mosquitoes. The rest of the course were still buggy but tolerable. It may have been due to it still being relatively early and I was walking making me an easy meal.
