Friendly, fast service in an interesting historic building, plus a nice variety of really good food!

Off the rip: bad service. Now, it was Friday at 12:30 but still. The vibe started strong & potential for a great meal was there, but the service was rough, also a bit slow for a lunch. After 20 mins of waiting for drinks (a keg blew and nobody got drinks despite only needing that one beer for 1 of us) and 10 to take our order, and then another 20 for the actual meal, I can say the food was really good. Best burgers I've ever had! Buns had wonderful flavor and were toasted to perfection! Definitely plan to return!

3.5 We stopped here after seeing the POW camp museum. We got a table right away and had our orders in pretty fast. There was a bit of a wait but not terrible. The server was nice and the food was good. I got the chicken breast which was really moist and after some back and forth, did get sweet potato fries. The coleslaw was a bit mid but not terrible. We stopped by when driving through Hearne, we had never been here before. I promise we will definitely be back. The food was amazing and the service was great. My husband had a steak and it was perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked to order. I had the grilled chicken nachos and the chicken on the nachos was so tender and flavorful. Located in the old Hearne Post office this pretty little restaurant fits the building so well. With a great selection of alcohol to support the bar the atmosphere is friendly with great service. The food is amazing definitely recommend spud Wednesdays with a great deal on baked potato's; the boneless wing one is great and can choose any of their flavors. Definitely worth a stop when passing through, with a growing town around might be worth a stay. read more

Great food and excellent service! So glad we stopped here on our way through town. Our waitress was fantastic. Our daughter is still recovering from a stomach bug and the waitress made her the cutest plate of crackers and toast. I had the burger basket (special on Friday)! Burger was one of the best I've had in a long time. Great flavor without being overly greasy. Husband had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. All were good! This is such a cute place! Love the historic charm of the old post office building. Stop here if you get the chance! read more

The first time I went, this place was awesome. The bar staff were attentive chatty. The food was great. The second time I went. I was treated poorly and rudely and it seem like I was inconveniencing the bar waitress when I asked about the wings she said, haven't you ever had barbecue before?? It was next to impossible to get another drink, because it was impossible to get her attention .... The food was still pretty good. I don't know if I'll give this place another shot. Pony Express is built in an old Post Office and still has some elements of the old building. Burgers were excellent and our waitress was so sweet and great with our kiddo. If we lived in Hearne we'd definitely make this a regular spot! read more

Great newish bar to the area! Lots of good food, drinks and opportunities to play pool! Lots of great appetizers and main courses. We had fun playing pool and working through the menu. Please don't give your business here. I was employed here for about 2 days and never received any training whatsoever, just thrown right in even before i filled out proper paperwork. The manager Dylan treated me with such hostility yelling at me, calling me harsh names and telling customers not to tip me because i was having a hard time keeping up (considering they didn't train me at all) I couldn't believe how unprofessional this place was. I ended up walking out because of how cruel he was being to me.. even some of the customers couldn't believe it telling me that it was insane how he was speaking to me. The sad thing is that his Aunt and Uncle own it so he will never be let go as he has supposedly chased off more employees than just me. I called the Owner to notify her of why i left immediately and there was absolutely no remorse and no surprise that her manager was treating his co workers like that. Any place ok with this should not be serving the public. read more

I love when old buildings are repurposed back to life! Recently opened, so very busy! Pool table at the back, darts, and karaoke/dj music when we were there on a Sat night. Corn hole outside with music playing. Full bar inside and a few beers on draft and more in bottles. Hubby had a cheeseburger and said it was great, fresh patty. I ordered a grilled chicken salad, but ended up with a chef salad. It was very good (they were busy since newly opened and I allow these errors during this time!) Loved the honey mustard dressing, definitely homemade! read more

Passing thru Hearne ate lunch at Pony Express. We like old buildings and this used to be a post office. Food was very good, I had the Philly Cheesesteak and husband had the ribeye sandwich. Passing through from Dallas - if you want a FANTASTIC burger, stop here!!! Wow! The beef was INCREDIBLE! Huge patty - probably a 1lb burger with fresh ingredients and delicious brioche bun. Huge and awesome battered onion rings. The LARGEST baked potato you'll ever see! The baked potato with chicken, cheese, and the works was simply awesome - it could literally feed 4 people. Price for 2 of us was about $30, but well worth the fresh food. It doesn't look like much on the inside but if atmosphere doesn't matter and you want really good food, stop here! read more
