My husband and I made the trip to see fir ourselves what everyone has been raving about! Well let me tell you, it was so amazing we couldn't hardly believe it. Lindsay waited on us and was delightful. We ordered Coronas, Alligator Bites to start! Spicy and delicious. The special bread with dipping oil was to die for. The Reuben Sandwich was perfect! The Cobb salad with grilled chicken was spectacular. And as others have said before, the Chicken Fried Steak was the best we ever had in our life. Huge portions all around! Plenty of leftovers for today's meals. The owner was as sweet as honey. And her son, the chef, is very talented and nice as could be. Perfect way to celebrate our 37th year anniversary! I loved this find! I was driving through on my way to Waco, and found this place right in Main Street. It was a great location among shops in Main Street. I really liked the decor and look of the place inside. The service was prompt, and the wait staff was very attentive and friendly. Good was good as well. I had the ribbon cut fries to satisfy a fried food craving. I also had the Santa Fe salad. The chicken was a little dry and there were a ton of fried tortillas that visually covered the whole salad so you couldn't see what was underneath. However, the taste was good. If you're ever in Calvert TX, I highly recommend stopping here. The inside is cozy, blending dark modern decor with original late 1800s brick. It's beautiful with low jazz music playing. I ordered the Landmark burger, and it's the best burger I have had anywhere and I'm 50 years old and traveled all over the US trying burgers everywhere. My wife and son got the chicken strips and they are some of the best fried chicken we have tasted as well. The service was also great. Very friendly comfortable people. Our first time to 1868 Landmark and it was a great experience. It's a cute hole in the wall local joint. It's kind of hard to find from the road because the 1868 is small written on the foot. The menu has a good amount of variety. We started with two appetizers, the fried pickles and the spinach dip. Wish we had tried the texas toothpicks. the spinach dip was my favorite between the two. Everyone seemed to enjoy their dinner. I tried the fish and chips. It should just be called fried catfish because it's not really the type of battering people are used to for fish and chips. I didn't want the fries so i got the black eyed peas and they were great- they had little pieces of bacon in them. I did try some of the shrimp and grits and it was deliciously rich. Oh wow let's talk about their table bread! It was delicious! The table kept raving about how good the table bread was- so warm and flavorful! It comes with an oil dip. So great! The service was impeccable. This is an excellent place in Calvert that must not be ignored! Give it a try and support this local gem! read more

Cannot say enough about this place! Just driving through and happened to see it on site. We went to the antique shop first and he recommended it- so thankful he did! Welcomed immediately by very friendly staff, beautiful decor, very clean. Nice level of music. Overall perfect vibe! Good variety on the menu, very reasonable prices. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and it was the best I have ever had- flavor amazing and so moist/tender! You do not need a side, the sandwich is huge! Same for the burger, my husband only ate half! Fries are fresh, crispy. We had sweet tea so cannot comment on cocktails and such. Didn't leave without cookies and neither should you...if they have the strawberry, for sure get it! Best part of our trip thus far! Will definitely come back...maybe even on our way home! read more

We were driving through and stopped for lunch. It's fairly new. We walked in and I immediately loved the decor! The high ceiling and exposed brick have a timeless charm. The food was very good! There's no lunch menu, so I had the pork stew with crispy garlic bread slices and fried okra ($16). My husband had a mushroom burger with Swiss cheese and sweet potato waffle fries ($13.50). It's pricey for a small town lunch, but the menu and prices would fit in fine in Sugar Land. It was also a nice change from fast food. Please note that it will take time to get your order. We asked how long it would take as we wanted to get back on the road fairly quickly. The server went to the kitchen and asked. She came out and said it would take only 15 minutes, so we stayed. And stayed. It did not take 15 minutes. It was over 30 minutes before our food came out. The friendly service and food were very good, but pack your patience if you come here. read more

Took another 15 minutes to have someone take our order. 45 minutes later we cancelled our order, offered to pay for our drinks (waitress apologized & told us no need to pay) & we left. We read the reviews and almost didn't stop because someone had said it took so long to get their food. I'm so glad we stopped anyway, because it was amazing. We were greeted promptly when we walked in the door and told us that anywhere by very pleasant people, they took our drink order immediately and brought us menus. The atmosphere was very nice! Made me want to come for dinner. The bar area was beautiful. Very clean and classy. We were really hamburger hungry, but so much look good on the menu. We decided to both get cheeseburgers -one with the ribbon fries, and we ordered the appetizer that was fried poblano peppers and onions to go with the other. Everything was homemade. We were thinking the Texas toothpicks would be like the frozen kind that you get at any bar, but they were wonderful. A very light batter and the poblano strips were fresh. The cheeseburger had a homemade bun that was sweet jalapeño. We asked if they bought them or made them and she said they made them fresh at the restaurant. We only ate half of our burgers because they were so large and took the other half home. My husband and I never eat leftovers but we both heated up our half burger and ate it for lunch the following day. We can't stop talking about how good it was. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth the stop or if you're close to the area worth a drive. My daughter and wife pass through Calvert quite often and stop here to eat which they love. I usually eat the left-overs when they make it to my house (which got me curious because it is great even 2 hours later). I had my daughter stop tonight on her way to Houston to pick me up the chicken fried steak, gravy, beans and mashed potatoes.....Finally, my own plate! I do not know what voodoo wizardry is taken place in that kitchen but that chicken fried steak is better than any I have ever had! I think the owners name is Becky, so here is my message to you: I am glad I live in Houston and you are in Calvert, TX. If you were any closer to me I would weigh about 850 pounds :) !!!!! Outstanding surprise in Calvert, TX for a quick lunch. Definitely a chef-driven menu...this is not your average small-town cafe. Real food, prepared fresh to order. Both my wife and I substituted items on our entrees with no issue; me "catfish substitute cheesy grits" (best fried catfish I've had in 3-4 years"...not normally served w/ amazing 5-star real grits). Wife had marbled rye Reuben sandwich, perfect. Super clean, great vibe. Waitress was very professional, courteous and genuine...will stop again and plan trips through Calvert for meal-time. I have visited this establishment twice, both times the service was excellent. The chicken fried steak was amazing, my husband had steak and stated it was better then Saltgrass and that speaks volume. My family loved the spinach dip & bread. I love the low music, and classy vibe. I love that the staff goes out of their way to make sure your afternoon is perfect. I thought the pricing was more then fair as it is lower then other places in the area. The portions are more then enough, as you will need a to-go box. Amazing find! We drive through Calvert regularly and always looking for a good bite. Stopped in today on our way through and had a fantastic experience. Service was kind and excellent. Food was delicious! My husband had the BLT, our girls the chicken tenders and classic burger and I had the patty melt. Everything exceeded expectations! And then...we tried the oatmeal cream pies! Wow! I'm not usually a fan but these are a different breed of dessert. Chewy, buttery oatmeal cookies and the cream is a perfect sweet contrast. Ambiance is relaxed and charming. Food was great. Ambiance was just kind of casual, but nice for what it is. The service was good, but the food took 1 hour to get the food though. That was the only hang up. Loved this place! We decided to go here on a whim considering we live in a neighboring town, and our expectations couldn't have been more exceeded. We were greeted with a warm welcome and a cozy atmosphere. We ordered our food, which insisted of the chicken and waffles, the Landmark Burger, a side of Not Yo Mamas Potato salad, french fries and a cheesecake Deluxe. While we waited for our food, we were given delicious bread! When our food arrived, we were blown away at the portions, not to mention the absolutely beautiful display of the food; absolutely gorgeous!! The Landmark Burger is a TANK of a burger, super fresh and the quality of both meals was heavenly. The potato salad has an honorable mention (because someone like myself isn't too big on potato salads and such) it was insanely phenomenal, the texture was amazing, and the ingredients were noticeably fresh. The potato salad will actually haunt me until I go back COMPLIMENTS TO THE CHEFS! This place was classy, cozy, and didn't put a hole in our pocket.
