He discovered the problem... Clearly, not once since hiring this company and paying more than $400 over the last 2 months, they never cleaned the filter. I reached out to Ryan the area manager and he never responded. I'll be filing a lawsuit on Monday to recover the cost of the damage done to our brand new pump and filter cartridges. read more

Terrible experience. This company is deceptive, they do not pay attention, their technicians and management lied to us, and tried to create a problem we didn't even ask them to fix. They entered our property without permission when we asked them not to and no one answered the door or gave them permission. We have dogs and that was unacceptable. They do not take accountability, never apologized. DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY. They will argue with you every step of the way if you even remotely try to talk to them. We contacted the company to ask for someone to look at our leaking salt cell. We asked them not to enter our property without permission and to wait we would be there in 15 minutes to meet the technician to better describe the problem. Instead the technician went on our property without waiting and destroyed our pool pump (which was NOT the reason for our call) and told us that in order to fix it, they would need to charge us around $1000 for the service. Before any auto shop, home repair, any contractor begins...companies will ASK before starting work. But they never even asked. They started without our presence or permission when we explicitly told them not to. When we called the management and asked them to fix it they offered to refund the charges but STILL charged us. When the VP called me he insisted that we weren't charged, but after me telling him to look again he somehow found the charge to our card that he said he personally had "zeroed" out. I have never left a negative review, but people should know.......I am submitting this complaint regarding the service my in-laws received from Pool Troopers. My in-laws recently purchased and had installed a new motor, pump, and valve replacement system totaling approximately $2,900. During a service visit 2 weeks after the brand new installed system, I happened to walk into the fenced pool equipment area and observed the Pool Troopers technician attempting to remove the pump lid by KICKING IT because it was too tight, rather than using an appropriate tool such as a rubber mallet. I confronted him and he had nothing to say. At the time, the technician did not appear to realize that the motor and pump were newly installed. He then attempted to prime the pump using a hose (which was NOT necessary, keep reading) Pool Troopers informed us that there was a clog in the system and stated that they attempted to blow it out but were unable to clear it (another unnecessary procedure-keep reading). SO, they then referred us to Red Rhino for further assistance. When Red Rhino came out to inspect the issue, they immediately identified that the main pipe had previously been broken and CAPPED. This explained why the pool was unable to be cleared by pool troopers and not running properly, since the valve connected to that capped main pipe had been left open by Pool Troopers. In the end, that valve shouldn't have even been installed. Based on this experience, it appears the root cause of the issue was not properly diagnosed during the Pool Troopers service visit. Additionally, the regular cleaning and chemical service has not met expectations, particularly considering the monthly service cost of $164. We believe there is a need for improved training and attention to detail to ensure technicians properly assess equipment and diagnose pool system issues before recommending additional services. I would also like to note that Patrick from customer service was professional, helpful, and very pleasant to work with throughout this process. We hope this feedback will encourage improvements in service quality and technician training moving forward. We will never recommend pool troopers. I was a client for 10 years (started at $75 a month in 2015 went to $164 a mo slowly as time went on) and we ONLY had a few years of great technicians. Needless to say, I have learned to take care of my own pool. Waste of money. read more

This is the second year in a row that our pool is green right when the kids are out of school and we need it most. we bought a new filter, a new center filter console and everything they said we needed after there was already a problem. We have our pool serviced every two weeks there should be no reason our pool is green! You call over and over again just to be told some "supervisor " will be out. We have had service with this company for about 10 years. Very few issues, other than the constant raising of prices - the price has more than doubled in that 10 years, but we have kept them because we enjoy the salt system. All tech's that have come out have been good and our pool (for the most part) has been clean and clear. 2 years ago (Nov '22) we replaced our original motor that was over 30 years old with a new Hayward (not cheap at all). In Aug. '24, the new motor/pump stopped working. We were told that it was just a bad pump and we were lucky it went out when it did because it only has a 2 year warranty and it expires in Nov. '24. Tech came out, replaced motor/pump and we were back up and running. A month later, we had the same issue... motor/pump stopped working. Tech came out, but this time we were told it probably went out "due to the hurricanes" because it "probably got flooded out". When I explained to him that we are nowhere near a flood zone and our backyard has plenty of drainage and no flooding, we ended up talking about replacement and again it was mentioned that the warranty was up in November '24. For the last 6 weeks I have been calling to see when they were going to come out and replace it again. They have sent there techs out to provide service, but each time they have had to report that the motor/pump is not in working order. FINALLY this past few days I have been contacted by a field manager who told me that they could not cover the replacement because it was damaged by the storm. When I told him the same thing I told the last tech, he asked for pictures (which tells me he never came out to look at the issue himself), to which I sent many. The next day he called and said that even if it wasn't broke due to the storm, they still would not be able to do anything because since they already replaced it once, they could not do it again, we "already used our one replacement for the warranty". Our only option was to buy a new motor/pump. I took it upon myself to call the manufacturer, to which they disagreed that there is no reason why they could not replace it if the motor/pump went out again, and that we needed to reach out to their District Tech Manager for Hayward. I was also told that this particular pump actually has a 3 year warranty, not the 2 we have been told. I have since been offered the new motor/pump by Pool Troopers/Bay Area Pool Service, for half the price of $800, with a new three year warranty, even though my original warranty still has a year left on it. VERY disappointed in how they conduct themselves in this situation. Just take a look at other review sites at how others are just as disappointed in their service as I am. They have been getting horrible reviews. Don't fall victim to their website of how long they have been in business and how much they care about their customers... the reviews speak for themselves. EDIT AFTER POOL TROOPERS RESPONDED: You are using the hurricanes as an excuse to not cover this equipment under warranty. 1. We are 50ft above sea level and our area is not in a flood zone. 2. Our backyard allows for ample drainage and our pool equipment is set on pavers, 3 inches above the flat ground. 3. The only tech that came out and asked if we had any flooding during the storms, to which we did not, so I told him "no". The Field Manager, who never came out to my house to look at my equipment, called 6 weeks later and told me the pump was not covered under warranty because of storm damage... Again, he made this assumption after never visiting my home or looking at the equipment. He had to personally ask me to send him photos because he had not seen the equipment for himself. When I sent my photos to him proving that our pump was never submerged under water, he called back the next day and told me "even though it may not have been caused by the storms, Pool Troopers can still not cover it because we have already had one replaced and we can not do it again." I would like to see the proof Pool Troopers has in regards to my pump being "submerged under water" as the basis for not covering this pump under warranty. read more

TERRIBLE POOL SERVICE-my pool turns green because no one shows up. Last time someone was here they left without checking the pool claiming the gate was "locked" even though it doesn't lock. Guy didn't even knock on the door to try. If you try calling them and you'll wait half an hour on hold before they promise to "send out a supervisor", if you even get someone. That person didn't show up either. I'm still getting billed but it been almost a month since anyone has laid eyes on my pool with no end in sight. i would have been with Pool troopers come april 4yrs. I was the "whistleblower" as they say. I reported anyone and anything. I have severe anxiety, depression, Hashimoto's hypothyroidism, Complicated migraines (diagnosed by a neurologist) and im currently awaiting the appointment for the RA doctor. Im in constant pain but DO NOT want to apply for disability. I WANT TO WORK. Pool troopers sadly went from a mom/pop "family" company to a large corporation that no longer cared about their employees or customers, just that bottom dollar. The call center became like any other call center. As the SENIOR CSR still left there, the other became the assistant manager and trainer, i had to correct alot of mistakes, which takes time away from the phones and unable to answer the amt of calls the "newbies" were answering. Out of the about 10 CSR's there's only 1 that has a little over 1yr and the other is coming close to 1yr. all else have been there less than 6 months. However it was their mistakes i kept having to fix and REPORT. When supervisors didnt report a route was delayed and we have a customer calling in to complaint, id report that supervisor. PLUS take calls from customers that came in on someone elses line, doesnt count towards my incoming calls. PLUS call back customers that emailed me. The 2nd excuse used was my attendance. i have every 3 months doctor appointments for my neurologist, endocrinologist and my 12yr olds neurologist too. These are ALL PREPLANNED APPOINTMENTS submitted as soon as i would get them. PLUS last week i had 1 ER visit for bleeding while urinating, something that i've never seen before. PLUS my RA/carpal tunnel in my right hand and fingers was absolutely KILLING ME for the 1st time in my life. my hand just couldn't take it. i asked for permission to download the google extension for speech to text and finally got it but it helped only a little as i still had to use the mouse and lots of clicking. LAST BUT NOT LEAST is that i have unfortunately this school year had to deal with truancy from my 12yr old daughter. We went to truancy court on 1/11/23 and she had all these documents. I HAVE ALWAYS SENT HER DOCUMENTS VIA TEXT OR TEAMS. they said i was reluctant to return to work, when every single time id ask about it and ask for a little more time at home, indera persaud (manager -1yr) would say "DONT WORRY, WE DONT HAVE A CUBICLE FOR YOU, I'VE BEEN TOO BUSY TO GET ONE READY FOR YOU". Just 2-3 weeks ago, i have the call log, she and i spoke about this. I told her VIA text that my daughter and i decided for her to go to school ONLINE come next year until we can figure out her headaches. she currently has a MRI scheduled for 4/5/23. i have countless messages via teams and text of me telling her how sick i felt and how dizzy and nauseous id feel while working BUT KEPT WORKING DURING THOSE DIZZY SPELLS. Why should i have to be "disabled" due to some conditions that at times does cause some trouble. I want to work and feel that i deserve to work and be given that chance period. This company has terrible customer service and the actual service they provide is worst. Got a new pool and thought it would be prudent to get a professional pool service to take care of it. This company comes out only twice a month and that cannot keep up with the needs of the pool. The last tech that came out after two weeks just threw a bunch of salt in the pool, waited a minute and left. Never checked the PH, alkaline or any levels. When I called to register a complaint they said the supervisor would be notified and they would get right back to me. After 36 hours no call or re-visit? I called and the office said they have a policy that it could take up to 48 hours to respond to complaint. Meanwhile my PH in my pool was very high which leads to scaling on the Walls. I canceled the service. Yes Patrick your supervisor did promise to keep an eye on the PH levels? But your field tech merely came out and threw some salt in the pool and left without checking any levels. Thus my comment you provide terrible service. read more

We've had issues in past with companies maintaining our pool - missed service, not brushing pool, not cleaning filter, etc. Then Will Howell from Pool Troopers came out to talk with us. He quickly identified what needed to be fixed to clean up our pool and set us up for regular service. He also pointed out a safety issue with the connection for our creepy crawley (that had been set up by a different company). Now Pool Troopers services our pool and our water is always sparkling clean. We are notified before every service. The pool tech - Caleb - always comes during the promised day/time and is very friendly, competent, and professional. DO NOT USE POOL TROOPERS IF YOU WANT QUALITY SERVICE. After missing multiple weekly appointments to clean my pool on Friday they would show up Saturday when everyone was using the pool. They did not maintain the pool and actually came in on a Saturday and shocked the pool when specifically being told the day before not to do it. I had a pool party planned for Saturday afternoon and they ruined the Birthday Party as no one could use the pool for 2 days. I fired them on the spot and was told by the technician that a lot of people are dumping their service. Pool Troopers bought out the company we were using (Burke Pool Service). Since Pool Troopers took over, we have been dissatisfied with their service and their customer service. The pool technicians who clean our pool seem to know what they are doing, but management does not seem to care that the technicians have everything that they need in order to do their job. We have a salt water pool, and the technician said that the company did not give him any salt for our pool... We have decided to switch to a different pool service company and when we tried to cancel our Pool Troopers service they would not accept verbal confirmation of cancelation from anyone other than my Dad, even though my Mom called them to cancel (they are married). I assume this is another way for them to prevent people canceling their service, but it is nevertheless quite frustrating and disappointing. It is another sad story of companies getting too big and caring more about making money and letting their service suffer. I do not recommend this company. read more

And you have no reply for the fact that I was overcharged for a service I never even received. So in fact oh don't provide quality service. You provide substandard service at an over charged rate. And the people of the Bay Area deserve to know this. Pool Troopers always comes through!! I had an electrical house fire last October and we are still not able to return. As you can imagine this has been a stressful time for our family. Because we have no power, our pool pump was no longer running and the water began to turn green with algae. I called Pool Troopers and they stepped up my service with weekly inspections and chemical treatments. I finally was able to get electric service to the pool pump and Pool Troopers was on the scene to quickly restore the pool!! It now looks as beautiful as ever. Although our house is still not restored, we are able to enjoy the solace of our beautiful pool. Thanks to Pool Troopers for doing an outstanding job in bringing our pool back to life!! read more

WARNING!! Do NOT use this company!! I have used them for several months and had nothing but problems. At least every other month (if not more often) I had to call to report that my pool had mustard algae. It was obvious they were not properly cleaning and brushing the sides of the pool as the algae would still be visible on the walls after their visit. Their equipment had a warning that it was malfunctioning on it. I noticed it for two weeks and finally called to tell them that something was not working properly. Obviously, their technician either did not do his weekly job or didn't care. Two separate times, the technician left the fence gate open and our dogs got out. Fortunately, we recovered them. After the hurricane, it took them three weeks to clean out the debris from the bottom of the pool. They did come and brush the walls but that didn't help to get the pool clean. Four weeks after the hurricane, the pool was still full of mustard algae so I gave up and did it myself. I just canceled my contract with them. Save yourself some headaches!! This company is horrible and does nothing but offer excuses for why their techs don't keep the pool clean! In fairness to the company, they said they would refund my last month's fees. read more

I've been a customer 8-9 years....far too long! I have had problem after problem and concern after concern and issue after issue. The upper management doesn't seem to care and the lower management can't seem to fix the issues. I have given them far too many chances and I am fed up at this point and going elsewhere for service. I have had terrible consistency with the technicians that service my pool. Anytime there's a technician change- which seems to be very frequent, they can't seem to read directions on my account to get into my locked gates, they have backwashed my DE filter into my new sod and nearly killed it more than once, let my small dogs out of my fence, not adjusted the vacuum suction down to a manageable level before leaving, left the in-line leaf filter in a position to suck excess air into my pool pump, dented one of my brand new downspouts, not properly latching and locking yard gates, not showing up for scheduled service calls, not disassembling and cleaning my filter regularly, etc, etc, etc. I feel like I could go on but I'm probably losing your attention. Learn from my very long term mistake that until this company has new management and better training with attention to detail they are definitely not anyone I would recommend dealing with. read more

For those who only read the first paragraph of reviews, here is what you need to know about BAY AREA POOL SERVICE: DO NOT EVER DEAL WITH THIS HORRIBLE COMPANY. Their Salt Water Generator is of the lowest quality, and will end up costing you thousands of dollars in pool repairs, unclean pools and a lifetime of frustration. Before I hired BAY AREA POOLS, I maintained my own pool for years. I never had a problem doing the cleaning myself. The only issue was my own busy schedule and the desire to enjoy my time in the pool, instead of my time cleaning the pool. I received a mailer from the company with the SALT WATER CHORINATOR and the promise of "They do all the work, and I will have all the fun". From the very start, I was presented with issues about my pool. It needed this... it needed that... I let them have their way to get everything set up THEIR SPECIFICATIONS...Costing my hundreds of dollars. But even after all the work and setup they did, I was still spending my weekend cleaning my pool. I now had Green algae, yellow algae and the worst BLACK ALGAE in my pool. If you research black algae, you will find out that it's the hardest to remove from your pool, and only gets into your pool by not maintaining the chemical levels. Bay Area Pools blamed my trees, my deck, my gutters etc. Trusting their advice, I cleaned my gutters, had all my trees cut back, pressure washed and re-stained my deck... costing me hundreds of dollars. My pool kept turning green and unswimable. I work from home and I watched the pool tech walk in my back yard, look at the green pool and drive off. After a year of horrible service with BAY AREA POOL TROOPERS, I was ready to fire them. I first reviewed Bay Area Pools in 2015 after having horrible service, but I was asked by Customer Service Supervisor, Patrick Krantzberg to remove my review with a promise from the company "to make everything right". I agreed to do and really wished I hadn't. During the next year, Bay Area Pool service was still consistently underperforming and they blamed my filter (DE Filter) and had me replace it with a cartridge filter. After that didn't keep my pool from returning to the green-state that it was in, they said my pump was to blame. So, I purchased a top-of-the-line variable speed pump at the cost of $1500. Then they blamed my barracuda cleaner, and recommended that I purchase a pressure-side cleaner. I paid hundreds of dollars for the cleaner, and since I was going from a suction-side cleaner to a pressure-side cleaner, I paid hundreds of more dollars to have my pool line re-plumbed for the new configuration. They were still coming over and dumping so many chemicals into my pool and telling me I could not swim in it for 48 hours which left me a non-swimmable pool over weekends and holidays, where my guests were either greeting with a green pool, or excuses why they could not swim. Their salt water generator is a complete joke, and their pool tech repeatedly told me so. It kept breaking down and leaving my pool green. The salt cell kept dying leaving my pool green. I was not able to use my pool for 9 months out of the year... and I was embarrassed to let any one into my back yard, because of how BAY AREA POOL TROOPERS left my back yard. Their company is unprofessional and unorganized. Their customer service hangsup on you. Their employees don't communicate with each other. I have finally had enough, I emailed the Customer Service Supervisor and cancelled my service and received this reply. "I have read your complaint. I understand that there have been some issues there. Clearly, you must have a tough pool to contend with - as we manage to keep +12,000 pools blue week to week. I realize your level of confidence is limited at this time, but certainly there is something going on there that is contributing to the issue. I will send this email over the Supervisor, so he sees what you are requesting and why. I'm sorry that things did not go any better." To this date, Not only have I have not heard about a refund, they keep charging my credit card for services they have not performed. I have since hired a new pool company, and within 24 hours their had my pool back to its previous glory, and over the last few weeks reduced their monthly charge "because my pool is so easy to deal with". read more

Bad service for my pool , I paid $49 / month for chemical service and they told me they will come every week to take care the chemical but they missed too many time , and my pool got green all the time so I have to call them to complain and that happens again and again , now after 8 months with them I have to say goodbye them , don't waste ur money read more

I do not recommend this company at all, we have had nothing but issues with them since we started. Technicians that didn't properly clean the pool, or did not show up on their scheduled day. No communication whatsoever as to why they didn't, good luck trying to call in to their customer service, I called in to complain about the technician not showing up one week and vented my frustration and wanted someone to fix the issue and still did not get any answers. Four days later a supervisor shows up at my house and states they are parting ways with us as a customer. I have never heard of a company parting ways with their customer because that customer called in and hurt someone's feelings in the customer service center. I as a customer have every right to call in and complain I'm paying them for a service that's my right to complain if I see that they aren't providing the service that they advertise they do then I will complain about it since after all we pay them for a cleaning service.
