The tour was pretty good, but it was surprisingly light on both Longfellow and Washington. There was more emphasis on his descendants and their lives and the people who lived in the house first and their slaves, and that's fine and all, but that's really not what we came for. IF I didn't know anything about Longfellow, I wouldn't have learned more than the bare minimum that he was a poet. We came for the famous Longfellow's story. He wrote a famous poem on Paul Revere, making him an American legend. You know where they mention that? Paul Revere's house? You know where it didn't come up at all? Longfellow's house. The grounds are nice to stroll through. There's a temporary gallery from Longfellow's son and the many Asian art items he collected, so that was cool to look for. The gift shop was nonexistant. In its attempt to be more inclusive, it had almost nothing on Longfellow. You know where they have nice collections of Longfellow's house and souvenirs? Paul Revere's house. So the gift items exist, but not even at his house. It was so weird. Maybe NPS got bored staying on topic, but I've never been before, so it felt like I was missing out on the story I came for.

I think most people would spend about 30-45 minutes there on average. The main attraction was located on the second floor so accessibility is a challenge since the elevator was small and also tight when going in and out. So folks with strollers and wheelchairs, it will take a bit to go up and down. You can find the elevator by Joey's Gelataria. The exhibit wasn't bad--especially if you're into dinosaurs and the history of it all. You can definitely make the best of it from many different species and fossil bone exhibits throughout. It can be very educational if you read everything presented and it's for kids of all ages. The dinosaurs throughout all move and have sound effects to hype up the kids. There's also a sandbox where kids can really get into dusting off the bones. It was pretty neat. Also towards the end, there was an activity area for kids to color and also have a mobile experience where you can doodle your own dinosaur on your personal phone and see it hatch on the big screen. Very cool I thought. But if you're just casually going in to check it out--you won't spend a whole ton of time in there. Would have been really cool if they have some rides in there for the younger kids. The gift shop had some games and things but most parents but I'm sure many parents tend to avoid those shops. Lol. Bathroom is also located all the way down at the bottom floor and is the only bathroom in the whole building. It can get very busy at Faneuil Hall so bathrooms can get a bit grimy. If you're driving in, find parking at surrounding parking lots nearby or good luck finding street parking.

Wonderful crafts from New England. It's like visiting a dozen craft museums all at once! Wood…read moreworking, weaving, glass, metal sculptures. A lot of jewelry. Though there were quite a few repetitive crafts, they each had their own twist to their art. The exhibit hall isn't overwhelming, and if you get there early enough it's not yet crowded. There are a couple interesting highlights, with Steampunk sculptures from Steampunk Lighting to piggy banks with personalities from Three Wheel Studio. It's a fun, fairly quick step into the crafting world! Great ideas for gifting and those items to get someone who has "everything"! I'm very happy with my own purchases from Antrim Street Studio and Kommineni Art Glass.

The artists and artisans here are über talented, from all over the place, and very willing to tell you their stories and explain their methods. Inspiring. Awesome. Add to that Spindleworks, a nonprofit art center in Maine for people with disabilities, and Metalwerx, where I will be taking my next art metal class in Waltham (I hope), as well as displays by a woodworking cooperative and the Fuller Craft Museum, and we were happy campers. Prices range from totally do-able to going-to-have-to-save-up-but-will-do-so-willingly. So much cool stuff. I am a sucker for pottery and sparkly shiny jewelry and left totally satisfied and with a long wishlist. Well done! And thank you.
