I thought this location might be better since it's by Castketon mall but nope. Service is still lacking, it doesn't cost a thing to be polite. I ordered online, came through the drive through and after saying my name 5 times they finally said pull up. I asked if there was a spoon in there ( i had mashed potatoes), she immediately said yea. I sat at the drivethru and opened the bag to look and there was no spoon so I asked her for one and she shut the window. I didn't see any napkin either so I waited right there till she reluctantly opened the window and I said there are no napkins and asked can I have some. She handed my the napkins and closed the window of corse glaring at me the whole time like I had personal offended her. I've tried to order food here two times. The first time, there was a family ahead of me, and no one came to help us. We waited there about 10 minutes until I left. The workers were all yelling and talking to each other, but no one came to help us. The second time, I tried to order, and they said they were out of dark meat and it would be about 25 minutes if I wanted to wait. lady running the drive thru window took my money and said 3 mins wait for 3 strips, one side. pull forward. It takes 10 mins for someone to finally come out and ask what did I order. Wish I could give zero or negative stars to this one. Stopped in today 2:30pm and ordered a 8 piece family meal all white original with coleslaw. They had not coleslaw so ended up with redbeans and rice. When I got home I had 5 pieces of chicken (1 breast (spicy), 2 thighs (spicy), 1 wing (spicy), 1 wing (original). a container of redbeans and rice with a lid broken and 1/3 of it spilled in the sack, NO biscuits (should have been 4). I called the store and was told they can't refund over the phone I had to come back into the store. I returned to the store at 4:38 (2h 8m after I paid) i was told that they have already switched their cash over to Sunday and therefore could no longer provide refunds. I demanded a refund and they still kept saying they couldn't give one. I asked for the regional mangers name and number and was told "they don't talk to normal people" So I guess employes are "special". After discussing with at least 4 managers at the site and them calling, I assume the super secret regional manage, they finally provided a cash refund. So the order issue was bad, the service when I came back was worse but the staff was HORRIBLE. Multiple people not wearing mask for gloves touching food. I watched one person sweep up stuff then use their hands to help get the trash into the dustpan then immediately when over and got chicken out of the basket for an order. Another woman was making sandwiches who WAS wearing gloves, no mask, I was like OK better then between making sandwiches she, with her gloved hands, readjusted her hair. Employees had cell phones sitting in trays used to hold drive through orders. Drinks being drank just sitting around next to customer food. This place seriously needs a health inspector check which I will be calling the Marion County health department on Monday as I'm sure they are violating several regulations. read more

The staff members were very nice but didn't give us a warning that the food would take so long. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich, Cajun fries, and banana cake. The chicken sandwich did not disappoint! The chicken was moist, the spice level was perfect, and the sandwich in general a bit greasy but definitely not as bad as what I've experienced with other chicken sandwiches. The Cajun fries had a good flavor but were cold (although that could have more to do with the GrubHub driver than the restaurant itself). The banana cake was just ok. The whipped topping on top was great, but the cake had that distinct fake banana flavor and I would have liked to see at least a couple of slices of banana either on top or in the actual cake. read more

Saturday lunch hour inside visit. Practically nothing on their menu...what's the deal? I wondered if management shortened the true Poppye menu. Ordered 2 piece spicey fried chicken combo. Didn't get spicey. Mashed potatoes not hot...slightly warm 2 thighs. One looked good, one looked ugly with poorly breaded piece. Probably made 2 hours ago. Neither hot, barely warm No plastic ware knives, forks, spoons...just a very small black fork/spoon...ridiculous for management to be so cheap for a $10 meal. Who eats lunch with their fingers after 3 years of Covid??? Asked for butter for biscuit "No butter. Just honey." Which management person made this decision...selling a biscuit without butter?? insulting to the customer. Maybe because no knives! Stale, not warmed at all I recall 2 sides used to come with combo. Just one question? How in the world does a Popeyes run out of everything....I mean seriously everything?? This place just needs to shut down. We use to live over by this location and we have experienced them before. Their service is pretty crappy and on top of that, we have the "always out of chicken sandwich" issue. But today I had enough. We pulled into the drive through up to order and the woman told us they were closed. It's a Sunday at 3:41pm. On top of that we saw workers going in and out AND it looked to me there was a car who just got served sitting up past the window. Arriana was rude In the drive they and I'll probably never go back to this location again. They were out of damn near the entire menu including regular sodas. That's not my problem and I shouldn't be inconvenienced just because you have not properly ordered and stocked your inventory. She seemed frustrated because she was clearly not able to multi task and communicate thoroughly to convey their lack of food options. We ordered regular tenders because they were out of the spicy. If you have less than thirty minutes to order, purchase , and leave a drive-through, even when it's completely empty, don't go to this location. After multiple visits it's never happened for me. This visit, I mistakenly ordered the Flounder sandwich, and I had 45 minutes on my lunch, so when they told me it would be a 7 minute wait, I said that was fine instead of deferring to a chicken sandwich or something that might be ready now. I've worked in food service, so I know when they said 7 minutes that was probably the cook time of the fish, putting everything together I figured i could expect an 11-12 min wait past the last drive through window, especially with one car coming through every 5 minutes. 18 minutes later I assumed they had forgotten about it and backed up to the window, "oh they're making your sandwich now". They were polite and informative about the wait beforehand, and apologized for the wait, but they knowingly mislead me about the wait time, or made a mistake in the process and never tried to rectify it. I believe if I never backed up to the window again I would still be waiting for that sub-par fish sandwich and cold fries. read more

Fourteen years ago, I heard those famous words "Popeye's Chicken is the shiznit" muttered in the Adam Sandler film "Little Nicky." Fourteen years. It has taken me fourteen years to finally find out for myself the truth about "Popeye's Chicken," and it's mostly owing to the fact that Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen has opened a new location in Castleton. It's a location that has seen more than a few failures, but the fine folks from Popeye's actually came in and demolished the old building and started anew with an absolutely brand new Popeye's and, I'd dare say, one of the very few that's actually located in a decent neighborhood. Is Popeye's Chicken the shiznit? I had to find out for myself, so I ordered a #2 combo that included two pieces of chicken, a side, and a small drink. It should be noted that Popeye's offers both a "meal" and a "combo." The meal includes the main entree along with a side dish and a biscuit, while the combo adds a small drink. I'm not aware if there's an option for upsizing the drink and it wasn't offered. You also get the option of having your chicken spicy or mild along with the customary white or dark meat. Being that this is a Louisiana Kitchen location, the menu also includes shrimp and a few sandwiches. The side items include cajun fries, cole slaw, mashed potatoes, red beans n' rice, biscuits, green beans, cajun rice, corn on the cob, mac n' cheese and a couple others. I don't recall that all come with the meal, but I know the first few do and I chose the cajun fries. The entire meal cost right about $6.47 and the serving size is pretty decent with your fries coming in a separate container. The food was hot, fresh, and quite tasty. I would say that the spicy is on the lighter side of spicy, while I would also say that the cajun fries are certainly on the lighter side of cajun fries. That said, the cajun fries were excellent and the serving size was generous for what amounted to a "small" combo and the chicken itself, well, it was definitely the shiznit. The iced tea, as well, was light and flavorful. While I can't fathom rating Popeye's a five-star rating, it is fast food after all, it really lost esteem from me for a couple practical reasons. First off, being that they completely demolished the old building and started over there's truly no reason for this Popeye's to be anything less than completely wheelchair friendly. It's not. The parking lot has a slant to it and while there are identified wheelchair parking spaces, they're across a driving lane from the entrance and far less than ideal. I mean, seriously, whose bright idea was it to create a parking lot with a slant to it? I pictured my wheelchair rolling away as soon as I got out of the car. While that's a tad melodramatic, it's not completely far-fetched and that slant made it much more difficult to sit next to my car and load the wheelchair. It was, quite simply, poor planning and wretched design. While the inside design is more wheelchair friendly, minus that silly little bar aisle marker that restaurants too frequently like to use, I also found myself turned off by tables that clearly identify accessibility with the wheelchair symbol. While some, mostly those who are able bodied, consider this a sure sign of accessibility actually most individuals with disabilities regard it as a condescending and segregating gesture. The cashier was friendly and helpful, though I did find it interesting that no one offered any physical assistance considering how much was on the tray plus even though someone was consistently working the dining room they never offered the fairly common gesture of offering to clear a tray. So, while the chicken is the shiznit the service is, well, you get my drift. As this Popeye's has only recently opened one can assume that they are still working the bugs out of their system. While there's obviously little they can do about their physical design at this point, one can only hope that their service improves and their disability awareness dramatically improves. read more

We ate here during their Grand Opening weekend. The staff was passing out beads and menus. There was plenty of staff walking around. They were very attentive. I hope it stays this way. The food was hot and tasted fresh and orders prepared quickly. They generously handed out condiments unlike other locations I have visited. We will be back to this location soon. While their food tastes great ON A GOOD DAY WHEN THE STARS ALIGN, that rarely happens. Four out of five visits, they are OUT OF COLE SLAW, or they HAVE NO COCKTAIL SAUCE for your shrimp, (but don't tell you until you ask for it as they are handing you your food, and who wants shrimp without cocktail sauce?). They tell you it'll be a 5 minute wait for a pie, and it comes to you in 20, when the food you were taking home is now cold. And buy a GALLON OF TEA? EXPECT TO ONLY GET 3/4 GALLON AT BEST. And call to tell a manager how things went wrong and you get an answering machine. I REALLY wish they'd get it together, because their chicken sandwiches are AMAZING, and their apple pies are sweet and COVERED WITH CINNAMON SUGAR. I want them to do well, but they frustrate me again and again. Please pull it together, plan ahead with your ordering and food prep, and focus on the details! Me and my friend was starting our road trip and I had a craving for a Popeye's Chicken. Specifically the $5 box, which usually includes about a biscuit, a side item and chicken - tenders or two piece. We originally went through the drive-thru. However, we were told the drive thru was "broken". So, we went inside because we still wanted Popeye's Chicken. Our inside visit from beginning to end was at least a good 25 minutes. Why do you ask? Well, management had their child sitting off to the corner, which distract from the business. Number 2, the inside was not processing orders in a fast and efficient manner. The young lady was not paying alot of attention to her job and as a result she was getting orders incorrect. Overall, she was not really taking her job seriously. I tried to be as patient as possible on this $5 box as well as my friend's food, but things were getting a little out of hand. At one point, I believe the young lady who received our order completely forgot about us. They also failed to tell us they needed to still drop (basically put the food in the deep fryer), which would cause a delay in getting our food to us. They did not tell us that that we have to wait or asked if we wanted to wait. Once the order was ready, my food was not placed in a bag. The manager keep stating all the above issues were due to not having a the drive though working. However, as someone who has worked in fast food, I knew it was lack of proper management of resources and food preparation. Period. For the person who owns this franchise, I would highly recommend that you monitor your managers and ensure that not only they have all the resources they need such as a working drive-thru but that they have the skills and knowledge needed to deal with difficult situations. read more

Based on my keto diet, I can only eat one thing at Popeyes -- their blackened chicken. You typically don't see it listed but it's available and it's always cooked to order so you never get cold/old chicken. Pair it with ranch or their mardi gras mustard for a nice meal. The reason I felt compelled to rate this location is I've eaten here 2-3 times in the last couple months and every time the staff has been super friendly and helpful. That is a rarity at most of the Castleton area quick serve places so obviously their management or hiring is doing something right. I'm taking one star away because they don't offer unleaded iced tea... and I require unsweet iced tea. Make it so, Popeyes! read more
