When we first drove into the parking lot, there was a homeless man soliciting at the entrance. Then there were three more homeless people standing at the entrance of the restaurant, smoking cigarettes. One of whom did not have any shoes on. I wanted to leave, but my wife had her heart set for Popeyes. Once we completed our order on the app, the shoeless homeless woman entered the restaurant and was greeted by an employee. This employee obviously knew the woman and they began to socialize. His Popeye's t-shirt was very dirty, and he wore clothing that did not suit a restaurant environment and was not clean himself. Another employee stated that dirty employee was a cook/maintenance person. After socializing, the dirty employee went back into the kitchen without washing his hands. The bathroom did not appear to have been cleaned in a while. There were no paper towels. The door handles of the bathroom and restaurant were dirty. The table was not particularly clean. There were homeless people who were allowed to come and go in the dining area and the bathroom. Once we got our order, we immediately left. Upon exiting the restaurant I noticed a machette leaning against the trash bin. I went back into the restaurant and alerted the manager. She had an employee retrieve the machette. I also let her know about the dirty employee, and alerted her to the fact there were multiple homeless people in her parking lot. She did not seem surprised and did not seem to care. I further alerted another employee (Nathan) to the fact that there were additional homeless people hanging out in the dumpster shelter, and suggested they call Hickory Police to take care of the issue. Nathan actually seemed to care about the condition of the area. I expressed to the manager that I did not feel comfortable eating the chicken that we had purchased. She offered a replacement, but did not offer a refund. We chose to leave the location and expressed that we would not be returning to this location ever. At time we are reluctant to return to ANY Popeyes. We left the restaurant without eating our order. When we go home, we observed that the chicken appeared to be stale and overcooked. ZERO SANITATION ! Went into the Popeyes in Hickory today 1/15/25 for lunch. Upon entry, I noticed the doors and windows were disgusting. We were the first people there for lunch. The male employee taking our order had zero hair net or gloves on. I didn't find out until halfway through eating my food that there was a hair in my chicken strips. Totally lost my appetite. I have been to this location three times and each time there has been issues with either the food or staff or both. Both the first and second time they were out of several main items on the menu. This coupled with the completely rude attitude from the staff is enough to make someone angry. The photo attached is from my third and last time going to this Popeyes. This is the meal I received after having to go through the drive thru TWICE because they could not get my order correct and refused to give me a refund. This place is going into the ground it's obvious the workers don't care about their job that much the men's bathroom were disgusting and the paper towels and soap were not put into the dispensers and just left out on the sink. They have been without lots of items for a while now and today there was only nine in chicken and 2 sides available. The fries I got were horrid and to the point where I asked for a different side which isn't normal for me to do. I could taste the bad oil like it hadn't been changed in months. This business needs an entire new staff if they want to stay open and I will not be returning anytime soon unless things change. I would rather drive 30 mins further than I alr do to get good tasting fresh food from this establishment than go to this one again. This particular Popeyes sux's so bad... pretty much just the service that I find myself sitting here in the drive thru shaking my head wondering why I have given it another chance...! We have been sitting idle for at least 10 minutes and someone asked the car at the speaker if they could take their order... "no, we already placed it... we're just waiting to pull forward!" That's been 5 minutes ago and still no movement... oops now taking the order of the car in front of me... still no movement! Finally reach to give my order... (I'm on a mission now!) another 5 minutes, still sitting... we have a winner at 8 minutes, parked at the speaker waiting to give my order!!! I honestly don't know how they stay in business!!! Made it to the window... I was pleasant, thanked them, paid and off I go... that was it... never again at this location!!! I just came into the dining area. I got the nugget combo with their Cajun fries. It was so good. The fries are the best. Crispy coating and good flavor. The nuggets look like they are fresh made from chunks of white meat chicken with an amazing crispy coating (only slightly greasy) I was waited on quickly at the counter. The last time I had gone was in July. Drive thru was only open album we decided to go anyway. We got the two can done meal and took it home. When we got home, we noticed we were missing chicken. What chicken was in there, a five year old would eat and still be hungry. For an entire week I kept calling and to no avail, no one answered. So I decided to call corporate. I was told that they would get in contact with management there to rectify it. No call was ever received. A week after that, corporate called and asked if anyone had contacted me, and I told the lady no. She apologized and said that they would send me a $10 gift card to rectify the entire situation. Where should I start...? Well I have never tried Popeyes though I have drove by many, many times. Today I just felt like giving it a try and I'm very disappointed to say the least. Walking in I notice that a lot of the tables were dirty. But who knows, they probably had a busy morning? Anyways, we went on to ordering. There was no one behind us and since this was our FIRST time I wanted to take awhile to look at the menu. But the lady made me feel very rushed. She kept asking me, "Is this for here or to-go?" This visit, I was greeted with, "Welcome to the best Popeye's in the world". So I ordered their new 12 piece nuggets with unsweetened tea. They don't have any usweet tea, I'm told. So I asked for Sprite... nope, they're out of that too. How about Diet Coke... you guessed it, out of that too. Finally had to settle for water.
