We hired this contractor to remodel our elderly mother's bathroom in order to make it safe and…read moreusable after she broke her hip. She also suffers from Alzheimer's. We paid him half the fee up front. We became concerned when it became apparent he had no workable plans to make a zero entry shower. When he started tiling in the middle of the shower wall first and with absolutely no waterproofing, we really got worried. After some research we realized he wasn't following any industry standards. We became concerned about the other work he had done in the bathroom: mainly installing a heater in the ceiling. A call and visit to the city permit office revealed he had no electrical permit and had undervalued the building permit by thousands of dollars. This saved him around $30. The electrical inspector came to the house and noted the heater was not installed to code or the manufacturer 's instructions. We were told our house could have burned down and not having a licensed electrician or a permit could have invalidated our insurance. What is more upsetting is we might not have been able to get our disabled mother out of that part of the house if it had caught on fire. We asked to meet with him about our concerns on two separate dates and he refused. At this point we fired him. As we remediate all the work he and his crew did, we find shoddy work at every turn. We have reported him to the licensure board in the hope it will prevent him from damaging anyone else's home or endangering other families.
