Pecan Pie
James A.

THE place to get pies (sweet or savory) when in Las Vegas. My brother got to know Andrea McLean when she was making pies out of the Vegas Test Kitchen, ordering pies whenever he was in LV. She is not there anymore, but is still accepting orders through her website: popnpies.com. He contacted her through text, and placed an order for 2 pies giving 48 hours notice - his favorite: the pecan pie;;; the one we wanted: chocolate peanut butter. She dropped it off on our day of departure at the Vegas Strip hotel we were staying at. She even froze the peanut butter pie for us, so it would keep for our road trip back to Long Beach. The total came out to $67. All of us has eaten a lot of pies, and these were some of the best slices we've had. Most commercially made pies have a strong slant towards a lot more brown sugar/corn syrup than pecans, This was the opposite: it had the requisite whole pecans on top for the nice presentation, but the inside of the pie was literally chock full of nuts (crushed pecans)....with the sweetener syrup there to bind. The taste was great, and was especially good a la mode (mint chocolate chip in my case). The crust had been baked extra done: I really liked the texture difference between all the layers and there was plenty of crust on the side if you wanted that. We haven't had a better pecan pie, especially in LA. The peanut butter pie was very pretty to look at, and tasted good. It's kinda hard to make a peanut butter pie that we don't like, but this was especially good because of the ganache frosting used (dark chocolate with a slight bitterness). The flavors contrasted really well and the filling was dense. The crust was oreo cookie, which is a great choice against peanut butter. Wish her pies were more easily available from the Los Angeles area, but you take what you can get when something is this good (and appreciate that they are individually being made right now...which does make a big difference).

I so miss my weekend PopNpies slice at Test Kitchen (now closed). However, I have been ordering whole pies from Andrea online! Yum!

What can I say except these pies are sensational!! We have now ordered multiple times including Banana Cream as well as Apple Pie and wow, these are SO incredible! I wouldn't call myself a huge pie fan, however I could eat these everyday! The pies were hand delivered right at the time agreed on and the process of ordering was super easy! I was even able to pay with Venmo, which made things extra simple! Overall, this is a high recommend if you need a memorable dessert for any occasion!

This is the second time I've ordered a pie, and once again, I'm not disappointed! This time I went with the Peanut Butter Chocolate, and it was absolutely delicious. The communication throughout the process was smooth and easy--always quick to respond. The quality and taste of the pie were incredible, and it was just as good (if not better) than I expected. I'll definitely continue ordering and can't wait to try more flavors. Highly recommend!

PopNPies is a must try if you love pies. Their pies remind me of eating one of my mom's delicious from scratch pies. I discovered them at Vegas Test Kitchen when they first opened. You can order from them while dining in or pick up a to go order. Just order through the link in the Vegas Test Kitchen Instagram page. The Blueberry Crumb Pie was so good. It had a buttery, flaky, delicious crust and crumb topping. I usually eat around pie crust, but theirs is one of the best I've ever had. The Honey Bourbon Pecan Pie was also great. It also had a great crust and wasn't super sweet like most pecan pies. The Peanut Butter Pie was light and delicious. The chocolate crust and chocolate layer on top balanced the richness of the peanut butter. I'll definitely be back for more delicious pie when I'm in the area!

Andrea made an amazing pecan pie for my dad's birthday and even arranged delivery. The pie was a huge hit, and Andrea was a dream to work with. Highly recommend!

PopNPies is crazy good! This is one of several food spots located at the Vegas Test Kitchen at 1020 Fremont Street. I originally went to have lunch with family at Stay Tuned Burgers and then saw PopNPies on the list of menu options and knew I had to try it out! The space itself has a lot of natural light in the front area and is darker and more earthy feeling towards the back. The look is clean modern with a hint of boho, and it has nice interesting touches like the mason jar ceiling lights and fresh flowers. There are several food spots at this one location; to order, you use the QR code on the tables and choose from one of the menus there. The service was friendly and fast and the food was so tasty! Each of us got a different pie flavor and I was lucky enough to be able to try them all! I got the salted maple pie, my husband got the peanut butter chocolate pie, and his mom got the blueberry pie--all of them were amazing! The salted maple pie was very sweet and salty, so if you are lover of these characteristics in a dessert, I recommend you give it a try. At times the intensity was a bit much, but certain bites were absolutely perfect, especially paired with the buttery, rich crust. The peanut butter chocolate was creamy, smooth, and of course, plenty of peanut butter and chocolate to go around. Just one small bite packs so much flavor in it, but it also leaves you craving another bite. The blueberry was subtly sweet and pleasant. I loved every single pie I tried there and seriously can't wait to try some other flavors. I have my eye in the apple crumble and bourbon pecan for next time. They also had live music there the day we went--Sugatone provided some nice music for everyone to enjoy and it was a really nice time. We'll definitely recommend this spot and plan to visit the Vegas Test Kitchen again soon! If you're a pie lover, I highly suggest you drop by PopNPies and give it a try!

Restrooms were really clean and had the same style decor too, so I appreciated that attention to detail. However, I docked 2 stars since I couldn't order anything. I arrived at 939pm, looked at the menu and decided on a slice of the Ube Crepe cake and one of the Apple Cinnamon macarons. They don't close until 10pm and people were still coming in, and there were still plenty of people sitting in the restaurant, but the staff didn't let me order anything at 945pm saying that she doesn't take any more orders after 930pm. What?!?! What the hell? You're open for a whole 30 more minutes and don't want to take my money - am I hearing that right? My friend had cash on him, and he was willing to pay cash if that's less of a hassle, and still no. It's not even to-go only, it was a flat-out no, before their 10pm closing time. THAT IS CALLED CRAP SERVICE. However, the 3 stars instead of 1 or 2 stars is because one anonymous employee who witnessed that go down changed my perspective of this spot. This person asked me not to reveal their identity on my Yelp review out of fear of getting in trouble. They overheard me trying to order but got turned away, then pointed to the macaron in a box in the fridge on display right there to my friend. So as I was walking towards the bathroom, this person (different than the girl who rudely turned me away) apologized for what happened and gave me the apple cinnamon macaron as a gift. That was so sweet of them. The macaron was absolutely perfect too, it was delicious - the perfect texture of the macarons, apple filling, in the center between the cream, with the crunch from I think they were dried apple bits on the side of the cream - amazing!!! But still insanely Vegas tourist trap rip off overpriced with the macaron that person gave me worth $8.35/piece. Honey & Butter Macarons in Irvine, CA or Durian Macarons at Sweet Mood in Westminster, CA, still keep their also delicious macarons under $5 each while having cute decor/ambiance (I'll admit they're not as impressive and unique as this spot though). But they're essentially banking on tourists not knowing any better and what things should actually be worth/gouging tourists as much as they can. Essentially, you're paying for the ambiance. Definitely not paying for the crap service. Food is good, but not astronomically priced good - you're kidding yourselves. You may be able to get away with stuff like that if you're inside one of the luxurious casinos on the Strip, like Venetian, Caesars, Bellagio, etc. But especially being off-strip, get a reality check. I may come back (thanks to your anonymous employee's kind gesture giving me that macaron), but it's more just to show my parents the cool ambiance.

There was a time when I came almost every week,…read moreand whenever my friends had birthdays, I would preorder their cakes here because I genuinely love the quality of the desserts. My family and I have supported Suzuya since the very beginning, when the first location opened on Durango. We've watched the business grow over the years, which makes this experience even more disappointing. Unfortunately, today's visit was one of the worst customer service experiences I've had. I ordered a breakfast crepe, a curry cheese sandwich, a mango mochi, and a whole cake. The breakfast items were served without any fork or knife. When I asked for utensils, there was no effort to provide them. The mango mochi was also served without utensils. When I politely asked the staff member wearing the mask for a fork, she simply replied, "You don't need utensils." That response honestly surprised me. Mango mochi is sticky and messy to eat by hand. It wasn't about the fork itself--it was the complete lack of willingness to provide even the most basic customer service. The bigger issue was when I purchased a birthday cake for a friend. I was told there were no bags available for a 6-inch cake. However, I saw other customers receiving bags. I even asked, "If I buy two more cakes, making it three cakes total, would you be able to give me a bag? I only have two hands." The answer was still no. That response simply made no sense. What made the experience even more upsetting was how I was treated because I had my service dog with me. My dog is a professionally trained service dog--not a pet. He remained calm throughout the entire visit. He never barked, never approached anyone, never disturbed other customers, and simply laid quietly beside me. Despite that, I was questioned about whether he was a service dog, whether he had a service vest, and then told that because I had my service dog with me, we would have to sit outside. I found this extremely disappointing. My dog was behaving exactly as a trained service dog should, yet I was still directed outside solely because he was with me. I sincerely hope the staff receive proper training on how to respectfully interact with customers who rely on service animals. Every customer deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. After being directed outside because of my service dog and then repeatedly being refused basic accommodations that should have been simple to provide, it became difficult not to question whether my service dog influenced the way I was treated. I truly hope that wasn't the case, but it certainly felt that way. This isn't just my opinion anymore. Many friends have shared the same experience with me over the years: the cakes are excellent, but the customer service is consistently disappointing. People return because the desserts are amazing--not because of the hospitality. Sadly, it often feels like there's no warmth or genuine care for customers. I've always heard wonderful things about Mike, and from what I've seen, he seems like a genuinely kind person. I can't help but wonder how he would feel if he knew loyal customers were leaving with experiences like this. I'm usually not someone who complains or leaves negative reviews. It takes a lot for me to write something like this. But after years of supporting this business, I believe this experience needed to be shared. Suzuya truly makes fantastic desserts, and that's exactly why this review is so disappointing for me to write. Great products should never be an excuse for poor customer service. Loyal customers deserve to feel welcomed, respected, and appreciated--not dismissed.
