Sadly, did not love, Lu-It custard. While just off one end of the strip, like every other down town area in the US (outside of the strip) it is located in a sketchy area. On our visit, there were several sketchy people in the lot and some going to the adjoining liquor store. While most of the customers were nice family looking people, a few of them were on the sketchier side too. If this were the only issue, we would go back, but there were other issues as well. However, for the positives, parking was limited, but sufficient. Business was good and there was both a line and numerous people waiting for their food. The order area is well lit at night. Most of all, the servers are very friendly, helpful, and patient. Unfortunately, the rest of the downside are the most important things. The serving cup size is good, but the ratio of custard to hot fudge/toppings was way off. Most places do not give enough fudge/chocolate sauce/toppings, but here the ratio was half and half. This MIGHT have been ok if the fudge and toppings were layered as at other places that do not skimp on toppings, but here the fudge/toppings were the top half of the cup and the custard at the bottom. This made it difficult to get the custard and to get a proper ratio of custard to topping. Kind of like rationing your meat and rice or potatoes so you have some for each bite--you could not do this with the custard and toppings here. The custard quality seemed like it might be ok, but it was hard to tell due to the ratio and serving structure. Overall, Nielson's custard has the more standard concretes with mix ins and a larger portion size than Luv-it. Freddy's frozen custard, although not as good as Nielson's was still also better than Luv-it. If Luv-it could either layer its toppings and you have concrete custard consistency, then it could be rated higher. As is, you are better off driving the distance to Nielson's or just going to Freddys. Still, if you must go to Luv-it, just be aware of your surroundings and you will still get an ok dessert. read more

Weirdly for us, there seems to be less people high off something, mentally unstable or homeless groups hanging out at night. The police do visit this store often. This area isn't a normal strolling area, unless you planned your stroll to Venezuela, Mexican food, or 7 eleven/gas station. This shop is located across a full block of extremely packed apartments. The rest of the neighborhood is single family homes, including historic Vegas celebrity homes. This block of apartments tend to have people roaming the streets with much of their belongings during the mornings and day. It makes me wonder if there is a Mission there for just sleep? Fyi, Vegas homeless community is very different from LA. Loitering isn't an issue. It's when people take action. People who live nearby, even blocks away are watchful of people who stroll down their block. It's common for trespassing backyard break-ins to get high at, to having mail packages being stolen. Luckily I haven't heard any assaults right now. I'd say it's still worth coming if you're really that close by, plan to eat or do an activity nearby, AND is wary of how the neighborhood has become. read more

Don't come here if you have allergies to anything. They don't clean their machines at all. I wanted to get rocky road because I'm allergic to banana, and those were the two flavors they had. When I got the rocky road, I tasted it and immediately thought it tasted weird. I gave some to my mom, and she confirmed it was actually banana. I went back because I couldn't eat it and was worried about having an allergic reaction. The man working told me that's just how it is since they don't rotate the machines, so the flavors mix. But the area has become a little bit more sketch compared to what I remember. There were a few homeless people around the front of the store which made it a bit scary for my little kids to get down to order custard. I wish they had a location that was nicer and had seating, maybe in somewhere in summerlin or centennial hills! Or even just a drive through. I come here when I'm in the area and I love their custard ice cream. A friend introduced me to this spot in downtown. They open later in the afternoon and usually close at 11pm. I've tried their specialty custard ice cream with toppings and during my most recent visit, I tried their special of the day called 'blue moon'. It is an almond flavored custard ice cream and something that I've never tried as an ice cream flavor. I actually really liked it and didn't know what to expect, hence the name. They have a daily special of the day and a calendar views on their windows that shows the special of the day. They don't open until 1 PM, but when we pulled up a few minutes early, there were already cars staking out the place like it was a concert ticket drop. When folks started hopping out, we did too -- no way we were losing our spot. We ended up third in line. Five more people magically appeared behind us almost instantly. I have no idea where they came from -- maybe the bushes? Maybe they live under the custard machine? The area's definitely a little sketchy, and that might explain why they're card only -- no cash. I respect it. If I were running a stand full of frozen gold, I wouldn't want a till full of green either. That said, we had no issues while we were there, and parking near the stand felt safe enough with a crowd around. We both went classic -- simple cones -- and on a hot June day, they hit the spot. Creamy, cold, and downright delicious. The kind of treat that makes you forget about your worries -- or the guy yelling at a payphone across the street. This place has been around for decades, and now I get why. If you're in the area and craving something sweet, it's definitely worth a stop. The location threw me off a little, but this is a great little hole in the wall dessert spot! The custard is nice and super creamy.
