WOW! We drove from Marquette because the owners of Towners Pastry and Chocolate opened up this restaurant. It met every expectation and more. The crust, toppings, cheese on the pizza all fresh and highest quality. The pasta was obviously homemade sauce, rich and flavorful with sliced Italian sausage and mushrooms. We ordered both desserts and they didn't make it home, Towners makes the big slices of Tiramisu for two and the cannoli come in a pack of two. We finished it all in the car before getting back to Marquette and wanted to turn around to get more of that delicious food. I didn't get to take pictures but here's what we ordered based on their instagram. BEST pizza in the UP!

Don't bother complaining about your meal because the owner will just take it into the kitchen eat it and come back and tell you she thought it tasted fine , really? Who does that? We knew a bit about the restaurant beforehand (I stopped in over the summer to buy a gift certificate), but this was our first time dining. We've had family style dinner before and, honestly, we're very open-minded eaters. We didn't even read a menu and let the staff take care of us. It turns out that we were in very good hands. The service is very attentive and friendly. We joked with our server as we learned about the menu and asked questions. It was a perfect mix of information and 'let us show you more.' The restaurant itself is sizeable with a few areas perfect for larger groups. We were seated at a high top, which felt a bit like the cat-bird seat. We were able to see everything and people watch without being rude or obtrusive. Seeing how others reacted to the food - and getting a preview before ours arrived - was fun and informative at the same time. The tricky part of this recap is the fact that the menu is very fluid. I can tell you how amazing the antipasto was - the memory of the caper berries still makes my mouth water - but your plate may arrive with completely different items. The adventure is trying things that either you've never had before or not in this preparation. Simply put, I recommend the prix fixe family dinner. Let yourself be guided by the food and try everything in front of you. That said, we learned that the kitchen makes their favorites on Saturday nights, so you might have a chance to enjoy the silky gnocchi or the sublime orecchiette. Since Strega Nonna offers kitchen courses, I am keeping an eye on the schedule in hopes of recreating something that we enjoyed or learning something completely new to me. The music was very enjoyable and did not impede conversation. It was the perfect backdrop for our food adventure, allowing us to chat about the restaurant and food or simply enjoy the tastes while listening. Thank you to everyone at Strega Nonna that made our anniversary so special. We're thrilled to have you in Negaunee and look forward to taking more 'tours' with your food and fun!

As luck would have it, I chatted with a new local friend a few days before and 'got the lowdown' on Mama Mia's. Her words and advice were spot on! She gushed over the bread - so good! - and mentioned how she and her mom often shared plates because the serving sizes are so generous. She also said that they used to make their own spumoni and, admittedly, I hoped that was still true (I didn't confirm one way or another). There was a 20 minute wait. Our hostess was running a tight ship and we were confident in her forecast, so we chatted and looked over the carryout menu, planning our meals. It was pointless, of course, because it was still hard to decide! Our server Missy took great care of us, from fetching a craft beer menu to boxing up our leftovers. The restaurant was busy yet we never felt a moment of neglect. The hustle is STRONG here, with servers weaving intricately between the tables with food and beverages. It was a bit like dinner and a show! I had the tortellini Parmesan dinner, which started with one of the best bowls of minestrone that I can recall. The vegetables were on point, firm with no mush. The dinner salad had a lot of lettuce but also a nice collection of 'stuff' including cheese, meat and olives. I loved the tortellini; straightforward and not smothered, it let the pasta shine. Smokin'Hubster had the stuffed shells a la carte and added some meatballs. Everything was well-presented and prepared, super tasty and, well, it tasted like it was made with love. Nonna would approve! Because I had the dinner, I had my choice of ice cream. While I had hoped for the spumoni, the option I chose was amaretto Mackinac Island and it was divine. If they didn't make it on prem, they have an amazing partnership. I can't recall the last time I had ice cream after dinner and I certainly don't ever think that I've remembered it so fondly a week later. Trust me, it's THAT GOOD! In the best Italian tradition, the leftovers were even better the next day. The value cannot be overstated. We were fat, dumb and happy twice with this dinner. Crazy as it sounds, Smokin'Hubster was already planning a carryout order because he wants to try some other dishes (as do I)!! Start to finish, it was the best date night! Lots of street parking and easy to find in the burgeoning metropolis of Ishpeming. Get yourself here and enjoy la dolce vita!

The place has been around for decades, and the experience reflects that kind of stability and familiarity. On the food side, I ordered the Lasagne Dinner, which is a verified menu item, along with garlic bread. The lasagne is exactly the kind of old-school Italian-American comfort food that works best in a place like this. The layers hold together properly instead of collapsing into sauce, the cheese has a rich baked texture without becoming oily, and the meat sauce has a slow-cooked flavor that feels consistent rather than rushed. The garlic bread also deserves mention because it comes out with a crisp edge and soft center that actually complements the heavier pasta dishes instead of just sitting on the side untouched. Service is one of the restaurant's strongest qualities. The pacing feels experienced rather than scripted. Staff know how to handle regulars, larger dinner rushes, and slower tables without making the room feel chaotic. Refills, check-ins, and food timing all happen naturally, which gives the place a much more relaxed rhythm than newer restaurants trying too hard to feel upscale. The ambiance is a huge part of why the restaurant works. The interior has that older Italian restaurant warmth with dimmer lighting, darker furnishings, and a dining room that feels lived-in rather than renovated for trends. It is comfortable in a way that makes people stay longer than they planned to. The atmosphere feels personal and local instead of corporate or interchangeable. Overall, this is one of the more complete dining experiences in the area. The food is deeply consistent, the service feels experienced and natural, and the atmosphere has enough character that the restaurant stays memorable long after the meal is over.

I tried the Reuben Quesadilla and it was 10/10. Crispy tortilla, hot fresh Swiss and corned beef, tangy Kraut, 1000 Island for dipping--a meal that could cure the worst of my hangovers. Their pasty's are DELICIOUS. Handmade, huge, great price, served hot and fresh to eat or cold to take home for later. The Bloody Mary was decent but nothing to write home about but I truly came for the food and wasn't disappointed one bit! Great prices, big menu, tons of seating, locals to chat with, and they offer bar or table seating (it also looks like they could accommodate larger parties if needed). Added as an absolute must-stop on my list of places in the Marquette/Harvey area. (Their online menu isn't current if you're on Google but it's pretty similar!)

It has a very established rhythm to it, and that familiarity is part of why people keep going back. On the food side, the menu leans heavily into comfort-style bar food, and the execution is stronger than expected for a place with such a broad lineup. I ordered the Loaded Dock Pizza, which is an actual menu item there, and it was surprisingly solid. The crust had more structure than the average bar pizza, with enough sauce and cheese balance that the toppings did not overwhelm everything underneath. It felt intentionally made rather than just thrown together for convenience. Service is where this place earns a lot of its reputation. Even when it gets busy, staff usually keep the flow moving without making customers feel ignored. It has that experienced local-bar energy where people know how to handle regulars, larger groups, and quick turnover all at once without the whole place feeling disorganized. The ambiance is very classic U.P. tavern culture. Sports on TVs, steady background noise, wood-heavy interior elements, and a casual crowd that ranges from locals stopping in after work to families grabbing dinner. It feels lived-in rather than curated, which honestly fits the place perfectly. Overall, The Dry Dock Bar & Grill succeeds because it understands exactly what it is. The food is reliably above average for a bar-and-grill setup, service stays efficient even during rushes, and the atmosphere feels authentic instead of manufactured.
