In all fairness I remembered the garlic bread from when I was a kid traveling to Marquette for the Fourth of July. It was our first dinner spot on the trip (plus a few repeats) since then. The service is always great, food is always hot, and the kitchen/restaurant is always clean. The dishes are made differently from other restaurants with an influence from southern Italy where the owners Grandmother was from. The baked pasta is a mix of savory, well seasoned, and yummy pasta and a hot dish. Perfect for after a ski trip or rainy day. I am also a fan of the antipasto salad. It has a great crunch, tastes fresh, and is cold (feeling like they prepare it and bring it out right away). Honestly, I ate too much because it was so good . This last trip, Heaven, was our waitress. She was friendly, personable, and had an excellent memory for our experience. All of our food came out hot and together. The restaurant was packed full of people. Highly recommend for anyone staying, stopping, or existing in town. read more

The atmosphere was absolutely beautiful, and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming. It's the kind of place where you feel taken care of from the moment you walk in. That said, for an Italian restaurant, the appetizer menu felt a little confusing. Seeing items like a baked potato and chicken tenders listed alongside the Italian dishes threw off the theme. Classics like bruschetta, arancini, or other traditional starters would fit the menu much more naturally and elevate the overall experience. The lasagna itself was delicious -- rich, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The only challenge was the presentation. Serving it in a ramekin made it harder to cut and enjoy. A plate would make the dish much easier to eat and let the layers shine the way they're meant to. Overall, it's a lovely restaurant with great service and strong potential. There is a large parking lot on the side of the building. We walked in around 5 on a Friday and it was immediate seating. Our waitress was friendly and very knowledgeable on the menu, and honest with her favorites along with details why. The lighting is very relaxing and the seating is well spread out. It give the classic Italian restaurant vibes. The restaurant filled up quickly after we ordered. The garlic bread was exactly what I hoped for. Very buttery on the outside, well seasoned, and a very light dense bread beneath the toasted outside. The soup was well seasoned, a pinch on the salty side, but not much body to the soup. The sautéed mushrooms had a lot of flavor and paired well with my meal. The Sicilian steak was not much different than a traditional filet. I did ask for rare cooked, and it was more medium- medium well. *not pictured- spinach artichoke dip. Oh wait. Nope one bread for both. Salad was so bland. Lasagna was okay, not what it used to be. I would have said something, however some things are not worth it. Came for an early dinner one afternoon when it was not busy at all. We were immediately seated and service was very quick, friendly, and helpful. Atmosphere is very typical of an American-Italian restaurant. However, if you are looking for good Italian food- this is not the place. While all dishes were hot, fresh, and adequate portioned- everything was flavorless. There was nothing authentic about this Italian restaurant. The garlic bread was decent. Pizza puffs were also not bad. Bruschetta was average for an American bruschetta... Pasta Milano had so much potential and sounded so good but was totally bland. Also ordered the chicken parm and didn't even bother to take a picture. It was just sad. Overcooked pasta with a breaded chicken patty on top. It was almost school cafeteria level. Out of towner, but always on the hunt for great eats where the locals go. Two different friends recommended Casa, and later I saw a wall sign in an NMU building. So that had to be the universe sending me straight to some good Marquette eats. Thank you, universe! Casa didn't disappoint. It was a Saturday night, and NMU's football and hockey teams both hosted big rivals. We did have to wait about thirty minutes for our table. Add in the pandemic related shortages of staff (be nice to your servers!), and that meant another twenty minutes of waiting after we'd been seated. It happens. Fortunately Casa's got a great bar where we rode out our first wait over glasses of Lambrusco and college football on the big screens. We'd already studied the menu by the time we reached our table. Ordered tenderloin tips as well as the ribeye, both medium rare (because why else?!). Steaks were cooked perfectly and seasoned with a mouth watering Italian blend that I'm sure they won't reveal. Only thing was, my ribeye wasn't as marbled or "melt in your mouth" like most ribeyes I've ever had. The cut was tougher than a marbled ribeye, more like a sirloin. But our server insisted it was ribeye, and it still tasted great. I did enjoy it. We also added some pasta sides, and these were tasty. But the star of the show is Casa's GARLIC BREAD. This stuff'll downright bring a tear to your eye. Order the regular and add a side of marinara sauce for dipping. (We did try the mozzarella covered variety, but we loved the regular more--don't mess with the original!) We gobbled up the pieces that came with our entrees and ordered MORE. Mmm. Very disappointed! We've been coming here for years and it was always our favorite stop whenever we were in town. Not anymore after our dinner there two nights ago. I ordered a filet medium well and it was so well done I took it home and gave it to our dog. My husband's steak was better but still lacked flavor and his lasagna was a waste of money. Nearly all cheese with little sauce and again, no flavor. Even the garlic bread was disappointing! The ambiance is nice and it looks like they would be legit. However I am convinced that they took a piece of frozen tv dinner breaded chicken and set it atop subpar spaghetti marinara. Chicken parm and spaghetti both lacked flavor and the chicken Parmesan was not crisp at all. I think they let it thaw to long after removing it from the tv dinner package and then didn't cook it long enough... Breading was soggy and the whole piece was like a rectangle chicken nugget. She said the entrees come with soup or salad and you already have your salad. My husband ordered a pizza pasta bake that was small and lots of cheese, he said it was nothing special. Minus the wine, $60 for a small pasta dish, and a 4 oz. steak with (extra) mushrooms I added, for I think $8, (that does not come with the steak), and salad, no vegetable or potato, was way overpriced. No amount of garlic bread can cover up the portion sizes. I suggested she let the mgr./owner know. I doubt he would care considering some of the reviews I have recently read. Olive Garden's more expensive, slow serviced, sister. I have been coming here occasionally for years for a few guilty pleasures on their menu (heavily buttered chunk of garlic bread), but just now realizing at how laughable this place actually is. For the prices this place charges you would at least expect to have good service and good food. Unfortunately, the service is clouded by the slow bar and kitchen, and the food speaks for itself. Don't normal pasta dishes simmer in the pan with the sauce? Just not my type of place. They are clearly cutting corners and by the reviews on here they don't seem to care. It's also always jam packed inside like sardines, still don't know why, but I guess everything tastes better when it's drowning in butter and cheese. If you're craving cheese and marinara, just grab a pizza roll from Lake Superior Pizza Subs--now THAT hits the spot. read more

We were a party of 4 including two kids, staying at the landmark inn while on vacation in the UP. Found this doing a yelp search, we were very impressed! We ordered lasagna (large portion), pepperoni topped pasta bake, spaghetti/meatballs, and kids pasta plain. The lasagna was huge, enough for the heartiest appetite. Pasta Bake also plenty for one. The garlic bread is amazing and goes well with the leftover meat sauce. Service was top notch, often checking in on us and helpful with the menu. Also $8 for a carafe of house wine--can't beat that! The star of the dinner may have been the Mackinac island fudge brownie cheesecake. You must have this treat. So good. We were very glad to top our day off with a wonderful meal here. So it's cold, cloudy and probably raining, you're probably in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. You really need some hot, hearty, rib sticking food and you feel like Italian. This is the place. My daughter suggested this one after talking to some people around campus. He hit this place for dinner on Friday night and it was packed. Surprisingly, we were greeted and got a table for 5 right away. I checked out Yelp just to see what people were suggesting. We got drinks right away and ordered a garlic bread appetizer. We figured it would be pieces we could share amongst the group. Nope. I big honking piece of bread. The waiter knew we were looking at sharing it. He neither mentioned it being one big piece or offer to bring it cut up. We hacked away at it with the butter knife he gave us. It was really difficult as the yelp reviews are correct. This thing is bread floating in a butter bath. I went with a large chicken parmigiana and my daughter had fettuccine alfredo with shrimp. My wife ordered lasagna. Mine was delicious and my daughter enjoyed hers, but my wife wasn't so pleased. Unfortunately the reviews here are true too. She couldn't eat it and swapped me plates. It's like a little crock pot of cheesy grease. If you stir it around enough you will find some pieces of noodle. Now I wasn't gonna let a crock of mozzarella grease beat me so, I fought my way through to the end. I finished it and it was really good. I say that because I LOVE CHEESE. I have to admit some bites I choked on because the cheese was so thick. Now I know it sounds like I'm complaining, but I'm not really. The food was really good. The staff was polite and the prices are decent. I read the reviews and ordered what I did anyway. I can't blame anyone else for that. I'll be back up here at NMU again. I will crave Italian again. We ordered a large house special pizza and an order of bread. The pizza was terrible! Canned mushrooms, the sauce was sub par. The world famous bread use to be dynamite, and so buttery that it would glisten! The bread we received was so dry and had barely any butter on it. I have enjoyed Casa Italian since I was a child. Whenever we're in town we try to at least get some of their decadent garlic bread and some pasta. When we had to plan a woodsy wedding during the pandemic, the Casa graciously set us up with our own room (the bar side of the restaurant) and fed our little group in lieu of a reception. Everyone was happy with their meals and the price was far more reasonable than what we would have paid back home (near Detroit). I also want to add that Casa is where our extended family had dinner together the night my dad passed away. As a family-owned restaurant, they were kind and sensitive as we sought some comfort food and shared memories in our shock. Thank you, Casa, for always taking care of our family and feeding us well in good times and bad. We will be back! read more
