I was extremely disappointed. My food was expensive, cold, flavorless, and definitely not fresh. The chicken parm was a heated up frozen patty. The marinara sauce was watery. There was a $6.50 charge to add chicken to my fettuccine? Outrageous. Especially, when my grilled chicken strips were served cold. 60 dollars down the drain. I wouldn't recommend Casa Calabria to anyone.

There is a large parking lot on the side of the building. We walked in around 5 on a Friday and it was immediate seating. Our waitress was friendly and very knowledgeable on the menu, and honest with her favorites along with details why. The lighting is very relaxing and the seating is well spread out. It give the classic Italian restaurant vibes. The restaurant filled up quickly after we ordered. The garlic bread was exactly what I hoped for. Very buttery on the outside, well seasoned, and a very light dense bread beneath the toasted outside. The soup was well seasoned, a pinch on the salty side, but not much body to the soup. The sautéed mushrooms had a lot of flavor and paired well with my meal. The Sicilian steak was not much different than a traditional filet. I did ask for rare cooked, and it was more medium- medium well. *not pictured- spinach artichoke dip. It was delicious because it was not runny, seemed very fresh and was served with bread.

Caesar side salad. Super fresh, very good.

Food was excellent. I would have given them 5 stars but service was very slow tonight. It's not normally that slow... to give them a little leeway, they did have a group of 40 come in right after us. Regardless, is definitely go again. I didn't get a picture of the bread nuts so yummy!

Wife and I stopped in tonight. Used to be a local favorite. Wow things have changed. 10.00 for a salad. Fine comes with a garlic bread. 13.00 for a small lasagna. Fine comes with a garlic bread. Oh wait. Nope one bread for both. Salad was so bland. Lasagna was okay, not what it used to be. I would have said something, however some things are not worth it. Will not be back and not going to recommend to business colleagues.

Came for an early dinner one afternoon when it was not busy at all. We were immediately seated and service was very quick, friendly, and helpful. Atmosphere is very typical of an American-Italian restaurant. However, if you are looking for good Italian food- this is not the place. While all dishes were hot, fresh, and adequate portioned- everything was flavorless. There was nothing authentic about this Italian restaurant. The garlic bread was decent. Pizza puffs were also not bad. Bruschetta was average for an American bruschetta... Pasta Milano had so much potential and sounded so good but was totally bland. Also ordered the chicken parm and didn't even bother to take a picture. It was just sad. Overcooked pasta with a breaded chicken patty on top. It was almost school cafeteria level. Overall, we were very disappointed.

We knew a bit about the restaurant beforehand (I stopped in over the summer to buy a gift certificate), but this was our first time dining. We've had family style dinner before and, honestly, we're very open-minded eaters. We didn't even read a menu and let the staff take care of us. It turns out that we were in very good hands. The service is very attentive and friendly. We joked with our server as we learned about the menu and asked questions. It was a perfect mix of information and 'let us show you more.' The restaurant itself is sizeable with a few areas perfect for larger groups. We were seated at a high top, which felt a bit like the cat-bird seat. We were able to see everything and people watch without being rude or obtrusive. Seeing how others reacted to the food - and getting a preview before ours arrived - was fun and informative at the same time. The tricky part of this recap is the fact that the menu is very fluid. I can tell you how amazing the antipasto was - the memory of the caper berries still makes my mouth water - but your plate may arrive with completely different items. The adventure is trying things that either you've never had before or not in this preparation. Simply put, I recommend the prix fixe family dinner. Let yourself be guided by the food and try everything in front of you. That said, we learned that the kitchen makes their favorites on Saturday nights, so you might have a chance to enjoy the silky gnocchi or the sublime orecchiette. Since Strega Nonna offers kitchen courses, I am keeping an eye on the schedule in hopes of recreating something that we enjoyed or learning something completely new to me. The music was very enjoyable and did not impede conversation. It was the perfect backdrop for our food adventure, allowing us to chat about the restaurant and food or simply enjoy the tastes while listening. Thank you to everyone at Strega Nonna that made our anniversary so special. We're thrilled to have you in Negaunee and look forward to taking more 'tours' with your food and fun!

I took my friend here, and she is NOT a foodie like me. She eats cold pasta . But that's ok, it's what she likes I guess. Anyways, I took her here after a long day. She had it rough. I briefly ran down the whole wet dry dipped thing with her and the man the myth the legend took her order. Asked her about the name spelling which she did appreciate. We play mini pool and boom, the behemoth arrives and she swiftly takes a bite. This girl dang Scooby-Doo styled her way into that sandwich and I was ecstatic. This sandwich has rich moist classic Italian sandwich texture , unmatched from any other sandwich place here. The broth was rich as she slathered that on this beautiful cheesy goodness. The mixed veggies were perfectly spiced to her liking and this is a highly intellectual independent woman yet this beautiful concoction had made her say the words "bussin'". Now, if you're unaware this universal term is a youthful slang to indicate that the food is GOOOOOD. My eyes lit up. And then the man behind the genius had mentioned he had not made her sandwich dry, and offered her a new one, which she politely declined , as she had devoured 1/2 the sandwich already, and he, without hesitation had offered her a free pop. This man has a heart of gold. My friend never looked more alive and it was exactly what she needed that day. She swore, SWORE she would come back here and thanked me for introducing her to this place, but really I should be thanking the man who runs this place for making my and my friends night. Thank you, Chicago beefs.

The place has been around for decades, and the experience reflects that kind of stability and familiarity. On the food side, I ordered the Lasagne Dinner, which is a verified menu item, along with garlic bread. The lasagne is exactly the kind of old-school Italian-American comfort food that works best in a place like this. The layers hold together properly instead of collapsing into sauce, the cheese has a rich baked texture without becoming oily, and the meat sauce has a slow-cooked flavor that feels consistent rather than rushed. The garlic bread also deserves mention because it comes out with a crisp edge and soft center that actually complements the heavier pasta dishes instead of just sitting on the side untouched. Service is one of the restaurant's strongest qualities. The pacing feels experienced rather than scripted. Staff know how to handle regulars, larger dinner rushes, and slower tables without making the room feel chaotic. Refills, check-ins, and food timing all happen naturally, which gives the place a much more relaxed rhythm than newer restaurants trying too hard to feel upscale. The ambiance is a huge part of why the restaurant works. The interior has that older Italian restaurant warmth with dimmer lighting, darker furnishings, and a dining room that feels lived-in rather than renovated for trends. It is comfortable in a way that makes people stay longer than they planned to. The atmosphere feels personal and local instead of corporate or interchangeable. Overall, this is one of the more complete dining experiences in the area. The food is deeply consistent, the service feels experienced and natural, and the atmosphere has enough character that the restaurant stays memorable long after the meal is over.

As luck would have it, I chatted with a new local friend a few days before and 'got the lowdown' on Mama Mia's. Her words and advice were spot on! She gushed over the bread - so good! - and mentioned how she and her mom often shared plates because the serving sizes are so generous. She also said that they used to make their own spumoni and, admittedly, I hoped that was still true (I didn't confirm one way or another). There was a 20 minute wait. Our hostess was running a tight ship and we were confident in her forecast, so we chatted and looked over the carryout menu, planning our meals. It was pointless, of course, because it was still hard to decide! Our server Missy took great care of us, from fetching a craft beer menu to boxing up our leftovers. The restaurant was busy yet we never felt a moment of neglect. The hustle is STRONG here, with servers weaving intricately between the tables with food and beverages. It was a bit like dinner and a show! I had the tortellini Parmesan dinner, which started with one of the best bowls of minestrone that I can recall. The vegetables were on point, firm with no mush. The dinner salad had a lot of lettuce but also a nice collection of 'stuff' including cheese, meat and olives. I loved the tortellini; straightforward and not smothered, it let the pasta shine. Smokin'Hubster had the stuffed shells a la carte and added some meatballs. Everything was well-presented and prepared, super tasty and, well, it tasted like it was made with love. Nonna would approve! Because I had the dinner, I had my choice of ice cream. While I had hoped for the spumoni, the option I chose was amaretto Mackinac Island and it was divine. If they didn't make it on prem, they have an amazing partnership. I can't recall the last time I had ice cream after dinner and I certainly don't ever think that I've remembered it so fondly a week later. Trust me, it's THAT GOOD! In the best Italian tradition, the leftovers were even better the next day. The value cannot be overstated. We were fat, dumb and happy twice with this dinner. Crazy as it sounds, Smokin'Hubster was already planning a carryout order because he wants to try some other dishes (as do I)!! Start to finish, it was the best date night! Lots of street parking and easy to find in the burgeoning metropolis of Ishpeming. Get yourself here and enjoy la dolce vita!
