Poppy's Place in Front Royal is a TOTAL return to another time. Poppy, after whom the restaurant is named, is the grandfather of the people who work (and I suspect at least partially own) the place. You walk in and order at the counter. This is a down home breakfast place where clearly everything is made to order from scratch. When we arrived, there was a woman waiting on a large takeout order. The order was for the wedding party for her daughter who was getting married that day. The bride so loves this place that she wanted her wedding party to share breakfast from her favo spot. So you get the picture. Very simple, very local. We ordered an array of breakfast items that included omelettes, grilled cheese, egg and cheese and pancakes, toast, along with coffee. The service was wonderful, the people who work here are wonderful. The food is good, certainly not great. I am from a bigger city and perhaps my expectations are skewed from that. This is a great place to visit for breakfast just outside of the National Park and it feels nice to support the local business. Just know what to expect. read more

So Happy when I learned that Poppy's Place delivered! They have delicious food, but it is sometimes hard to get away from the office. My Egg Salad Sandwich was so good, and it hit the spot! And fast, food was here in less than 30 minutes at lunch-hour...no one can beat that in the area. The delivery person was so polite and had the best smile, not sure if he was an employee or from a delivery service, he made my day. Highly recommend Poppy's Place. read more

A quiet small little place to grab a big bite with a bigger taste. Please forgive the meh photos. I had the Hot Poppy Reuben sandwich. It was loaded with meat, the marbled rye was toasted to perfection, a nice crunch and then it was a sloppy bite to the end and I enjoyed every one of them. This is the best Reuben I have had in Front Royal and the surrounding area. She had the gyro and was very happy with the entire meal, the lamb was very tender fresh veggies and the tang of feta and a yummy tzatziki sauce. read more

We stopped in this cozy restaurant on a snowy day and enjoyed our visit. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. My husband had the Ruben and thought it was delicious. (That's the sandwich they are known for.) I had the grown up grilled cheese and chicken tortellini soup. The sandwich was cooked perfectly, gooey and still crispy. The soup was tasty and I enjoyed the tortellini instead of regular noodles. I even bought a sweet treat, which was yummy! I had the Heath cookie with cheesecake topping and it was amazing. Definitely want to try more sweet treats. We are looking forward to our next visit there. read more

Halfway between Dinosaur Land and Skyline Caverns is Poppy's Place. A great stop for lunch. I chose it based on the reviews here and it did not disappoint. Staff there is friendly and welcoming. The menu has a wide range of choices. I had the A grilled cheese sandwich with macaroni salad. The grilled cheese was perfectly made. The macaroni salad was sweetened with chopped pickles and was yummy. My friend had the Poppy Rueben sandwich with marbled rye which he raved about along with the potato salad which he said was best he had in a long time. It was a warm day and there were some sidewalk seating which we took advantage of. All in all it lunch at Poppy's place was a great choice. read more

Solid spot for a quick meal! They have a range of sandwiches, bowls, salads, and desserts. The prices are really good, and on your sandwiches you can add unlimited toppings they have (veg, sauce, etc.) I got a toasted tuna salad sub with a ton of fixings, and it definitely hit the spot :) The cashier and servers were really nice, and we got recommendations from them of hikes nearby! read more

We were in town and needed a last minute party tray of sandwiches. They were graciously able to accommodate our needs. We opted for 1/2 chicken salad and 1/2 turkey sandwiches on wheat. Just had lunch at this great family owned diner. I'm from New York and I just had a ruben that would rival the best I've had in Manhattan. Perfectly toasted bread and seasoned meat and toppings. My husband had a really wonderful chicken salad sandwich that wasn't your run of the mill bite either. I'd definitely recommend popping in here if you're passing through. Poppy's Place is a delightful addition to Front Royal. My husband and I came in for lunch and my husband reports that the Reuben is in the top five of any he has had. I had the grown up grilled cheese and it was very good too. The have deep river chips and they were delish. Ended lunch with a delicious thumbprint cookie from their fresh baked goods and it was amazing. Very friendly atmosphere that lets you relax and enjoy. read more

Great little place for a Sub or Sandwich. Rueben is very good. Great Potato salad - Like Red Hot and Blue. Cole Slaw is like Lauders. They have fresh made bread and cookies and cheesecakes. Poppy's Place is just plain Southern Hospitality from the first..."Hey, to what can we do for ya?"Parking is not an issue as the owner has a new lot lined and decorated to meet you in back ,next to Chevy dealer. The front street parking is safe! Gotta give these folks a try. Great people and their menu is evolving. Check out the board with receipts and ask about their donation of the month. It came with home fried potatoes- that had NO oil/ grease. It was just sliced potatoes - no oil, peppers, onion, no spice, seemingly not even S&P. Another friend had a special French toast- she enjoyed those. The pancake was fine - pancakes are easy to love. They didn't have maple syrup which maybe is too much to expect - I know it's pricey. The prices were good here - I'll give them that !!

We got the whole chicken with plantains and yucca fries. Everything was done exceptionally well. The chicken was moist and the yucca fries were fried well done but not too crispy and the plantains weren't soggy with oil like some other places might be. Highly highly recommend! For our entrees, I ordered the shrimp po boy and she ordered the crabcake sandwich. For our side, I ordered the coleslaw while she ordered the potato salad. The po boy was very full of small shrimp and came with a sauce which was very good on it. It's a little tangy sauce that goes great. Of course, I added some hot sauce on top which was the perfect touch. The coleslaw was very good and again reminded me of North Carolina coleslaw. Chopped very small and fine with a hit of sweetness. The crabcake sandwich was also surprisingly good and had lump crab meat. This place is very informal and a perfect lunch spot, which attracted us to it immediately.
