I asked a few members who have been there for awhile why they chose BlackBox, and more than one said they were former crossfitters who preferred the atmosphere at BlackBox more. So far the BlackBox coaches Blake and Todd have given me more hands-on coaching on olympic lifts and other compound movements than I've received anywhere else. While the strength and conditioning classes are going on there will be members of the Texas Barbell Club and other committed oly lifters practicing around you. It reminds me of training at Lord's Boxing Gym in Austin, where class members are mixed in with those doing more structured, long-term training. Come for the workout, stay for the community…read more Small class sizes. Plenty of class times to work with my week/end schedules. I've never had an issue reserving a class spot before it filling. Attentive, knowledgeable, and patient trainers. Healthy mix of gender, age, color, and fitness levels in the member community. Excellent fitness programming; very variable movements. I could attend every class in a week and never repeat movements. There always seems to be a program focus in place e.g. 4-week bench press focus, 6-week running focus, etc. Each program starts and ends with a test to assess progress over time. The programming motivates regular class attendance. The gym also nurtures member community with regular/monthly events like bowling, trivia, rock climbing, pot lucks, etc. It's fun to connect with other gym members outside of the gym given we see each other so regularly in the gym. I've just completed month 8 with the gym, and I'm in the best shape of my life. Hitting the ground running in 2022. Big thanks to the FW Strong staff and member community.

The equipment may be a little old but very functional. Cleaning supplies are all around with paper towels and spray adequately stocked. Staff are very helpful and friendly. There's always someone ready at the front desk to promptly greet and assist. No one is pushy or trying to sell you coaching/personal trainer lessons unlike some of the other gyms that seem to leap at that first site of a new member. The sauna is one of my favorites as a pre-work out or post work out. Most of the time, the heat is sufficient and I'm adequately drenched in sweat. Feedback I have would to be 1) include paper towels in restroom 2) include clock in sauna 3) have some extra moveable benches so they can be used with the cable machines.
