I found this place by accident and thought it would be a general store, but I must have missed the word 'Tavern' at the end. A few things stood out immediately when I walked in... Friendly staff. Cleanliness. A ton of character! I later found out it also had great food. For that.... Burger: 9.8 Fries: 8.9 (most would rate higher) Salad: 10 All ingredients are fresh and you can definitely taste the difference. Prices are also fair and the menu is simple. Great find was recommended by my son. My wife and I enjoyed the atmosphere of this place nice well stocked bar. All of the staff were extremely friendly. I had the jalapeño pimento cheese burger and fries wife had the Catawba club sandwich and pub chips. Never been in & saw it passing by decided to stop in. I didn't try the food because i already had dinner but i had a cider at the bar and ordered this togo, i added the strawberries at home. So so good. They did their thing with that one. I will be back to try the food & definitely get another one of these before they take it off the specials, they should add it to the regular menu!!! The town of Catawba has been working hard to Reno ate itself and this is one of several businesses that anchor the town. We went up to visit the soda shop a few doors down but were recommended this place for lunch. The folks were very welcoming and we were seated immediately. I ordered their Pimento Cheese burger with house-made chips and it was good! To be honest, I'm a bit of a pimento cheese snob, and the One they are using is not the highest-quality (think bright orange grocery store), but for the average Joe, it is more than sufficient. The burger was well cooked without being too raw or over cooked. I have to admit that the chips were quite tasty and they have a nice homemade ranch dressing that they serve for dip. The service was fairly quick, and the owner and his wife both came out to greet us and check on our experience. If you plan to make a trip to Catawba, I would definitely recommend this place for lunch. read more

We visited tonight after work and were so pleased to see all of the cool Halloween decorations! How festive! The place is a favorite for locals, we got there at 6pm and it began to fill up quickly after we arrived. We were seated immediately, and though it took a moment to get our drinks and orders in, it wasn't terribly long. They seemed to be understaffed at the beginning of the shift, but we saw some help come in a little bit later. After they arrived, the staff was a bit more attentive. We ordered Pretzel bites and beer cheese for an appetizer. The waitress let us know that the beer cheese was frozen and could she sub pimento cheese instead? We reluctantly agreed, but what came out was delicious and the best dish of the night. They weren't really pretzel bites, either; rather they were nuggets of bread. For me that was even better! We ordered sandwiches for supper. Everyone scarfed theirs down quickly! I got the Cuban which was well prepared, but the inside was cold and the cheese was not melty. I wish they'd cooked the meats on the flat top a moment to warm them up, but the flavor was there and I'd get it again. The best side we got were the homemade chips and Ranch dressing! We kept our pimento cheese to dip our chips in, too. Out of this world good! I hesitate to mention this because I'm afraid to get them in trouble, but if you are like me it might make your decision to go: they have a restaurant dog. His name is Boomer and he goes from table to table to get his pets from everyone and lays around calmly. Seriously the best part of my night! Great place in a small town! Went to Pop's on a first date and we both really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. It's not a huge place but the layout is so that you don't feel closed in when all tables are full. It was a Saturday so there was live music that was very enjoyable. Not too loud to also carry on a conversation with a date. The fried pickles are pretty dang good! I had the blue cheese bacon burger. A little dry but good nontheless. Can't wait to try other burgers, they have many to choose from! She had the Catawba Wrap with chicken. She loved it. Overall, even though I do not drink alcohol, the food will bring me back. read more

Great local "Cheers" bar. Run by a wonderful husband and wife team, the son and daughter-in-law of the original Pops, Wayne Hyatt. Wonderful selection of beverages, both nonalcoholic, mixed drinks, beer and wine. Menu is constantly changing with strong solid staples. Got a to-go order here a couple months back. Great customer service and food was ok. I got two orders of the chicken quesadilla--one for me and one for my boyfriend. We both agreed that they were small and sort of bland compared to other places we've had quesadillas from. I'd probably go back to have some drinks and try some other menu items because the atmosphere and customer service made the place comfortable and inviting! On the Main Street in Catawba, we found this bar that was open over lunch. Cold beer and the bourbon pizza was good- while the crust was thin (possibly frozen) the toppings were good and cilantro was fresh. The side salad was great for a bar- nothing fancy just perfect tomatoes, lettuce mixture (not just iceberg) and good balsamic dressing. A few antique shops rounded out a fun afternoon. read more
