What a great find! We had a pleasant evening, sitting in a table adjacent the water We had outstanding service with friendly and helpful waitress, who helped us with the menu. I had the grouper ruben that was outstanding and more than I could finish, and was served piping hot. My wife had the swordfish special, which was equally outstanding. The coconut shrimp appetizer was right up there with the best that I have had. Only quibble with the meal I had was that I thought the fries could have been crispier. Our outstanding waitress made sure that our sodas were refilled constantly. We had the pineapple upside down cake for dessert, which was served warm and was a great sweet to end the menu. I have been eating at this restaurant for about three years now. The food is very consistent, the drinks are reasonable. But the reason I am writing this is because of the staff. The staff is very friendly, very professional, and gives outstanding service. Case in point, one waitress, Hannah, from day one she was one of my faves. Her willingness to strive to ensure customer satisfaction, is beyond reproach. She does not hover over you, but when you need something she is always there. Our second visit here was disappointing. The food as a whole was ok. Nothing special. Our group of four had three burgers and the shrimp basket. There was nothing unique about this food. We also had the lobster bisque which was very good. Service was fine. The biggest disappointment was the lady checking people in. We had reservations and arrived right on time. She checked us in and said it would be another 20 minutes which was odd because the people in front of us did not have reservations and were seated immediately. After about 30 minutes I went back to the check in lady and asked how much longer. She said she sent us a text but we never showed up. I never received it. She then explained that this was a common problem with their system that sometimes the text messages never get sent out! She put us back on the waiting list when there were multiple tables that were empty. Horrible customer service but a worse attitude by the check in lady. read more

Oh my gosh....the 15 min wait was worth it! Fresh seafood and good atmosphere. Right on the water! It was hard to find a parking place! We spent the day at the beach on another day and the only place we wanted to go for dinner was Pop's. It's casual and comfortable....many boaters dock their boats and walk up the ramp to the restaurant. When in the area, you must visit Pop's. Went yesterday, mahi mahi sandwich, fish basket, coconut shrimp were all great. One of us had nachos with mango chicken. Chicken was terrible, tasted rotten. It wasn't grilled and had a weird consistency. I tasted a piece and had to spit it out immediately. Wait staff asked if we wanted something else but then took it off the bill after we declined. A tiki bar with a dance area! A fun mature establishment! Sort of hard place to find. But the atmosphere is pretty neat. The restaurant is nestled along side of the inter-coastal waters, great view of visiting manatees or dolphins. Their live entertainment is located on their center staged area, designated where you will see couples and singles dancing. It's okay, they are kind of away from the dinning area, so no food fights there.... or - I think there is not. The food is good, I had their "mixed grill" a lobster tail cooked just right seasoned sweet and buttery, and the catch of the day was grouper, I had it seasoned and grilled also occupying the same dish was a shrimp skewer flavored of mango seasoning! I went to Pop's with my mind set on clams. I set down after an hour and half wait, and the waiter informed me there were no clams. It was around 7:30/8ish, a reasonable time to sit down and have dinner, so I was surprised they were already out of clams and mussels. The calamari was over cooked and the fish and chips were just okay. As per the live entertainment, I think they should hire a dj. It felt more like karaoke then live entertainment. You can park two ways, you can pull up in your *Car* or your *Boat* since it sits right on the inter-coastal / Nokomis Beach just before the bridge. Slow to Fast service, depends on how many people are staffed that day. Food is average. However, the view is nice if you decide to just grabs some drinks at the bar and look at the inter-coastal on a sunset evening. And rude so when we snapped back at them and the manager came over and told us that he would put a table together inside once were seated inside and waited over 2 hours for our meal and when we got our food it was burnt and very unappetizing they never apologize for any of their mistakes and they could have cared less they ruin our anniversary dinner so when my husband called back to go over this with the manager his response was that were rude to his staff and we are barred from the restaurant they deleted my membership card and all of my Earned perks that I had saved up .way to treat your local customers.! read more

Pops does not welcome families. Please do not take your children here. We sat down for a nice dinner, our three children went to dance on the dance floor 10 feet from our table. Pops Managment approached us twice and asked that our children not dance on the dance floor because some old people at the bar were complaining. Pops employees expressed their clear dissatisfaction with children and families at their restaurant. Pops would much prefer their old, pickled, pretentious smoking crowd over families. If you have children, I would recommend boycotting this place and instead going to Casey Key Fish House. read more

I haven't drank from plastic cups since fraternity parties in undergrad school, but whatever. If I had to chose a place to eat next to the water, I prefer Dockside, where the wait staff is super friendly and the fish tacos and coconut shrimp is delicious. Ok so...it's a great place for a sunset. The wings and conch fritters were pretty good. I ordered the burger and requested it well done. It arrived and looked good. However I had to ask for onion to put on the burger. At the first bite I knew it tasted off. It tasted burnt and like a dirty grill. I didn't eat it and ask the server to take it away. She requested that she have a manager come to the table. The manager came over and informed me that the burger is cooked on a wood grill fire. Hmm... she said some people don't like the taste. She said you can request that it be cooked on the flat grill and it wouldn't have the burnt taste. She asked if I wanted her to have them remake it. I declined. She told me she could discount the burger 50% off....lol really? I didn't eat 15% of it and you're going to discount it 50% off? Well that is so nice. Thanks for going out of your way! Epic fail. Who trained this manager? The fried shrimp a dinner companion had was very good. The fries were not bad. Just know what your are ordering. Ask questions if you must. Food was good but not great. The swordfish and mahi mahi was more on the dry side. Pina coladas/Mud slides were excellent, along with a good beer selection. Live band playing in a the background added a nice touch, so the ambiance made up for a bit of the meals shortcomings. First of all. Our server was amazing. We are locals and love this spot. My only complaint was the food. I ordered mahi mahi it was 22.00 the price of mahi was way too high for the piece of fish I received. It was no more than 4oz. I also got the coleslaw which had no flavor. So for $22 dollars my plate looked like a sample and wasn't worth the money for what I received. Very disappointed. Spoke to manager and she said it was the way it is and that they get many complaints about it. So I'm not the first to have this issue.
